Good Tuesday everyone and thanks as always for dropping by the blog. Our winter storm continues to produce rounds of light to moderate snows across the state and that will likely continue right on through Wednesday and perhaps into Thursday. In doing so… more accumulating snows are likely and this will go along with more blowing and drifting snows.

So far… this storm has put down quite a bit of the white stuff in many areas. Much of northern and northeastern Kentucky have picked up anywhere from 6″-10″ to lead the snow parade. Other parts of the state will try to catch up to those totals with a prolonged period of snow showers and squalls.

The stuff out there today will continue to ramp up from time to time as a little disturbance moves in from the northwest. True northwesterly winds won’t kick in until later this evening and carry us through Wednesday and Thursday. Moral of the story… rounds of snow will continue and you can track them here…

Travel conditions will be terrible for much of the region today. However… a stronger sun angle helps out some during the daylight hours and can give road crews a hand. Once the sun goes down this evening… it’s back to snow and ice covered roads once again.

How much more snow are we talking about? Here ya go…

Keep in mind… this is everything that falls from today through Wednesday night. There will be some “hot spots” that get a little more than others and some “cold spots” that don’t get what surrounding areas get. That is just the nature of snowfall… especially when dealing with one that is a prolonged event.

At this point… I can see some snows and flurries hanging tough through Thursday and perhaps into Friday in the far east. This is a wicked pattern that wants to produce snow every chance it can get and that looks to continue. I am already gearing up for what should be another very active week next week that may feature a few more snow and storm threats.

The GFS Ensembles are certainly indicating the potential from late this weekend into early next week…

The European Model decided it wanted to go straight to a wicked winter storm for next Monday and Tuesday around here and for the eastern US. Here is what it shows for next Monday evening…

Something else to watch for will be a growing chance for a big dump of arctic air into the eastern half of the country for the last 10 days of February into early March. By the way… if you are looking for an early start to spring… keep looking because it ain’t happening! March looks cold and stormy and will likely provide a lot more winter around here.

Are you guys having fun yet?

Keep posting the weather and road conditions from where you live and I will update as needed. Take care.
