Good Sunday afternoon everyone. The blog is back to into full update mode now and we are also in full blown Winter Storm Alert mode as a major winter storm moves into the state. This will bring a prolonged period of snow to the region that will result in several inches of the white stuff and for some… the biggest snowfall of the winter so far.

Here is a look at the current warnings and advisories…

The warnings are too far to the north and should be issued several counties farther south across central and eastern Kentucky. I have no idea how Jackson didn’t blanket their entire forecast area with a warning as the upslope flow will likely bring significant snows in itself later Monday through Wednesday.

Light snows are already breaking out in many areas right now and this will continue into the evening. The heaviest snows will be falling later tonight into Monday as a very heavy band of snow moves through much of the area. That band can drop a quick 2″-5″ of snow by itself. Snow showers and squalls will then set in from Monday evening through Tuesday and Wednesday for the entire region and this setup will bring several inches as well.

I have upped by snow totals for most of the area…

I fully expect a few areas to come in a bit above the totals I have on that map.

Winds are going to be a big factor once again from Late Monday through Wednesday and this will create blowing and drifting snows that will enhance to danger to travelers.

You can track this evening’s light snows here…

I will update as needed this evening so be sure to check back. Take care.
