Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to one heck of a wintry day. This is one of those days that true fans of winter weather are loving as it features a lot of snow… wind and cold.

Let’s give you a breakdown of what the day will hold…

– Widespread snows and snow squalls. Moderate to heavy bursts will be on and off all day long and these will cause all sorts of problems. Reduced Visibilities and snow covered roads will be the main issues.

– Temps today will be starting out very close to 10 degrees in many areas with afternoon highs only warming into the low and mid 20s.

–  Winds will continue to be very gusty all day long. This will cause wind chill readings to be below 0 to start the day and in the single digits later on. The winds will also create blowing and drifting snows that can create whiteout conditions.

As the blog title says… this is a wicked and wintry Wednesday!

I have the old reliable regional radar for you guys to track the snows through the region…

Snow showers will continue into early Thursday before finally tapering off. How much additional snowfall can we expect? Here is my call…

Travel today into early Thursday is going to be poor… and that is putting it mildly. This is not the kind of day to be taking any leisure trips for the heck of it.

Where do we go from here? Well… the pattern is about as cold looking as it can get for the foreseeable future and the snow that is out there today is likely to stick around for a while. We are also likely to put snow on top of it over the next week.

The models have a couple of systems developing late week into the weekend that we will have to watch. The first is a southern storm that should remain to our south for Friday into early Saturday. Some of the models have been trying their best to inch this thing just far enough north to impact our southern counties with snow. The Canadian model for Friday and Saturday is leading the charge on that…

While the main storm remains well south… a weak clipper diving in from the northwest tries to pull in some of the moisture. The NAM is also hinting at this…

Saturday Morning

There may very well be another, stronger clipper diving in for Sunday and Monday and this shows up nicely on the GFS…

Sunday Evening

The pattern is ripe for more snows around here and the overall look next week suggests the upper levels become more favorable for winter storms to impact the Ohio Valley instead of the east coast.

Getting the picture yet? There is still a lot of winter left to go.

Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves as today is bringing us more than enough winter! Help us out by posting the weather and road conditions from where you live. Have a great day and take care.
