Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to a relative warm up! The temps over the next several days are going to be much warmer than what we have had over the first half of January… but that’s not really saying much as readings will still be normal to a touch below overall through the weekend.

After a cold start… temps today will warm toward the freezing mark across most areas. Partly sunny skies will be noted making for a nice looking day. Thursday will be slightly warmer as temps warm into the high 30s with a shot at lower 40s. A weak front will settle southward into the Ohio Valley by Friday into early Saturday with an increase in clouds. There can also be a sprinkle or two out of this as temps stay in the upper 30s and low 40s for highs. That is about normal for this time of year.

Our southern storm will be coming out of the Gulf of Mexico by Sunday into Monday. This would normally be a great track for a snowstorm… but all the really cold air has retreated back to the north into Canada. This likely means a cold rain… though a touch of ice or a few flaks cannot be ruled out. The GFS has been showing this storm going well to our south as it usually does given it’s too far south and east bias with storms. The GFS worshiper forecasters are going to be changing their tunes of a dry forecast after seeing this…

Again… a cold rain is mainly in the cards out of this system. The real January thaw begins by the middle of next week as temps are likely to nose above normal for several days.

The overall pattern is already tipping it’s hand toward a change back to cold and snowy at some point the week of January 25th into early February. Until then… enjoy the break from Old Man Winter.

Take care.
