Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to a relative warm up! The temps over the next several days are going to be much warmer than what we have had over the first half of January… but that’s not really saying much as readings will still be normal to a touch below overall through the weekend.
After a cold start… temps today will warm toward the freezing mark across most areas. Partly sunny skies will be noted making for a nice looking day. Thursday will be slightly warmer as temps warm into the high 30s with a shot at lower 40s. A weak front will settle southward into the Ohio Valley by Friday into early Saturday with an increase in clouds. There can also be a sprinkle or two out of this as temps stay in the upper 30s and low 40s for highs. That is about normal for this time of year.
Our southern storm will be coming out of the Gulf of Mexico by Sunday into Monday. This would normally be a great track for a snowstorm… but all the really cold air has retreated back to the north into Canada. This likely means a cold rain… though a touch of ice or a few flaks cannot be ruled out. The GFS has been showing this storm going well to our south as it usually does given it’s too far south and east bias with storms. The GFS worshiper forecasters are going to be changing their tunes of a dry forecast after seeing this…
Sunday Morning
Sunday Afternoon
Sunday Evening
Again… a cold rain is mainly in the cards out of this system. The real January thaw begins by the middle of next week as temps are likely to nose above normal for several days.
The overall pattern is already tipping it’s hand toward a change back to cold and snowy at some point the week of January 25th into early February. Until then… enjoy the break from Old Man Winter. ![]()
Take care.

Thanks Chris for the update!
I think any warm up at this point would be greatly appreciated.
Still looking for that big snowstorm event of the season here in Central Kentucky…maybe the end of January into February will bring just that!
Whaat indications are you seeing of renewed cold air the end of the month? The models I am seeing are indicating warmth through the end of the month going into February.

Ok, so, it is the indices that are indicating that there will be a change then, thanks.
ber bob s lula,,,
ill be back in a few days hopefully. pray for rolo please.
It’s been nice to have snow on the ground for so many days in a row, but I’m ready to get out of the deep freeze for a while.
Well, it certainly was cold this morning. Woke up to 10 degrees, and clear skies. Brrr!!! but it is beginning to wram up nicely out there now, with the temp up to 27. Our local is calling for 38 today, and a shot at mid 40s to near 50 by Friday.
Chris, I think this has been the longest we have had snow on the ground (albeit not a lot) for more than a day in a very long time. Hope to see some more when the temps go back down the last week of the month.
As for today, the sunshine is beautiful! but there are still a few icy spots. Be careful out there! And have a GREAT day, everyone!
Prob no school for Knox tomorrow as my road is still completely covered
Whatever it is, I hope you are okay. My prayers are with you.
Personally, I’m looking forward to the warmer temperatures and even a little rain to wash all the salt away. I have a feeling that I’ll need a glass of wine (or two) after I open our next gas bill.
P.S. I’ll be praying for you, Rolo.
I am praying for ya Rolo let us know when you are back.

Not a cloud in the sky. You can see the extensive snowpack, however. And it’s going to go away fast under this full insolation and above freezing air. I’m ready to see this salty mess go away now.
Not much melting happening today where I live (Magoffin).
Boyle County- 37* Sunny………Nice day. Snow melting pretty fast in unsheltered areas.
here,here!!!..and the rain this weekend can wash the salt off the roads…
well the bad thing about the “THAW” is everything goes from frozen, salty tundra’s to soggy, mushy, and muddy..man what a give and take!! unless you live in the city and never have to deal with the MUCK ..its back to normal for you…lol..:)
so since your a city boy back to normal for you 😉
School Tomorrow for the county Tim ?
don’t know how’s it lookin down your way?..haven’t heard anything yet..
still have stuff on my road but past the church its ok i’m guessing if they have it an hr delay maybe 2
I guess that would be one of the PERKS of moving to the BIG CITY LIFE…lol..:)
things are HARDLY back to normal just yet for this family…lol..but were getting there.. Hopefully by FEB. we’ll get lined out.and finally MOVED into our new house…
I would say the stinking creek, and browns creek area’s in the Dewitt district will be the “yay..or..nay” on tomorrow, there are places up there where the sun is limited this time of yr..and its gonna take some major sun and warmth to thaw those places out…
i think they take a look at Granny Rose as well
No School in Knox County
I’ll wait until Saturday before even considering what the models are saying about the weekend. 🙂
UGH!!!!!!!!!
does anyone know anything about pike co schools??
i thought i seen an hr delay earlier
Well, I hope everyone got a chance to see the thermometer go above freezing today. It actually got up to 37 here! We still have snow on the driveway, but the kids here are going back to school tomorrow, on plan B. I know there are parents here that are glad to hear that.
In the meantime, I saw some weather news out of Knoxville this evening, (yes, I was watching reaction to their coach flying the coop) and even they are saying a mis on Sunday, and temps dipping back just a bit (into the upper 30s, lower 40s for them) so, other than them, and Chris, I have not really heard the “mix” mentioned.
chris, you still think our temps will be such that we start as a mix, before it changes to rain? Oh yeah, they also said posibility of about an inch of rain down there….
Rolo, please take care of yourself! You will be in my prayers as you go through whatever the coming days bring you. Please hurry back soon and let us know how things are with you as soon as you can!
The little bit of melting that took placed today has made it more slick than it was this morning. As of right now we are on a 1 hour delay, it will be slick in the morning.
so much for the warm-up another winter event next week in the well hyped warm-up.

Ok, so I looked at that graphic. Now will you explain (to those of us that know absolutely nothing about how to interpret that) what it is saying?

oncoming precip with 32 line cutting across ky, doesnt neccessarily mean snow could be mix or ice. but its a week out it will change alot.
