Good Friday everyone and welcome to the frozen tundra that is Kentucky! A widespread 1″-4″ snowfall hit the state on Thursday and now comes the coldest air of the season that will carry us into the weekend.  Before we talk about all the cold… we still have some more snow to go through as northwesterly winds bring in more snow showers and squalls to us today into early Saturday.

These can drop an additional 1″-3″ in a few areas. Because of the very cold air… the snows will be very fluffy and it the atmosphere will be primed to snow at the blink of an eye. You can track the snows here…

Roads will continue to be slick and hazardous through the day into Saturday. The bitterly cold temps will make it hard for road crews to get a lot of the streets clear.

Speaking of the cold… it is here. Temps this morning will be in the single digits to start the day and will only rise into the teens for highs. The gusty winds will keep the feel like temperature at or below 0 for most of the area. Follow the arctic blast right here…

If we can clear the skies out Saturday morning or Sunday Morning… temps will really tank with the fresh snowpack in place. Lows down into the single digits will be common with a shot at 0. Again… we must clear the skies out!

Beyond the weekend…

There is likely to be a light snow making system diving in Monday evening into Tuesday. This has the potential to lay down a little more snow before all is said and done.

Temps will slowly climb next week and we will finally go above freezing this year… but not by much. Temps will run in the 30s for highs with a shot at … gasp… 40! You know it’s a brutal winter when 40 degrees is warm.

The pattern is only taking a break as the southern branch of the jet stream cranks up. This will likely crank up the storm train once again and we will have to watch for this by the end of next week and beyond. The cold and snow aren’t done by a long shot as this winter is turning out to be everything we thought it would be.

Keep helping us out by posting the weather where you live. I will have more updates later today so check back. Have a great day and take care.
