Good Thursday everyone and welcome to the start of a snowy few days across the state. Snow will be breaking out from west to east this morning as a fast moving arctic low pressure moves through the Ohio Valley. Snows will be light to moderate with this system then we rely on the northwesterly winds to kick in for later tonight through Friday night. Both will combine to put down a decent snowfall across the entire region.
You can track the snows here…
This first batch of snow today is only likely to drop an inch or two with three at the max. The snows will lighten up a bit later in the evening before the snow showers and squalls kick on from the northwest. These will carry us through early Saturday in many areas and will have more of a fluff factor on top of whatever falls today.
Did you guys notice I have not taken the blog into Threat or Alert mode at all? Just throwing that out there. hahaha
How much will it all add up to by Saturday Morning? Here ya go…
Add in gusty winds and you will get blowing and some drifting of the snow later tonight into Friday. Arctic air will surge in behind this system with wind chills by Friday morning around 0 or below. Lows this weekend will slip into the single digits with an outside shot at sub zero air.
Help out your fellow bloggers by posting the weather where you live. I will have more updates through the day so keep checking back. Take care.

Totals dropped a bit.
I don’t like that reduction in the total amount but I guess I can’t do anything about it. Bring on whatever we can get.
Thanks Chris for the update.
I was hoping for a good one but just never got that cold fuzzy feeling about a system giving us much snow coming from the artic. When Ky gets good snow they come from Texas and they bring Gulf moisture with them. Maybe later in the year since we are extremly early right now.
Yes, I did notice that Chris. I knew we would get some snow, but you didn’t seem very excited about the prospect…
Winter isn’t over yet, and if and when you ever go into excitement mode, I might too.
As it is, we will get lots of snow with this one, more than we have been used to in years, anyway.
Rolo, tonight’s song: Melancholy Baby
Let the crawdadding begin!!
Snowing here, light, but most I have seen all year! Our biggest band will be from 7 am to 1 pm too, so this gives me some hope getting some now.
Only took about 15 minutes for the concrete to be covered outside.
Where are you located?
where you at thomas?
Murray, KY far south west KY and this snow is unlike any snow I have seen for this area. It is coming down out there fairly good and flakes getting bigger!
Our heaviest band for the accumulation is supposed to be about 8-9 am till about noon, so if that is the case tonight snow is a bonus.
Even though the flakes are light and puffy I am about 30 minutes into the start of it and the ground is starting to turn white as I type this.
Our main roads got treated yesterday and traffic is already slowing down out there with the roads already covered! You guys are in for a treat regardless of where you live cause this is the prettiest snow I have seen and with it sticking as it hits school will close even with an inch I bet.
Boyle County- 2:45am 17* Partly cloudy
http://stormtracker.yolasite.com/michaels-kentucky-snowcast.php
Got a half an inch out there so far, snow alot lighter and tapering off abit.
NWS could not screw the morning temps up anymore than they have for Wednesday night
From the looks of the radar, the snowdome is in full effect.
*shakes head*
Fayette co. just called off school today. Very unusual for them to do that considering it hasn’t even snowed yet. I guess they don’t want kids to be at school when it gets bad. My wife teaches for Fayette co. I just told her and kids, her response was “your kidding, YOUR KIDDING!!!”
Clark CO just also cancelled Wife had same response kid response Ya HOOOOO!
Now if this would pan out you talk about sweet http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/06/images/gfs_ten_384m.gif
Yep. Unfortunately, it appears to be falling apart as it arrives…surprised, anyone? I think 1-2″ at BEST in CKY, hope I’m wrong, but the Dome is a powerful enemy…
and its just getting here so CHILL OUT jeeze
Its warming up so it can snow here went from 9 to 14 over the last bit
You know we will get something probably rain or FREEZING RAIN.
I want nothing more than for you to be right, so I digress!;)
Looks like this thing has taken a track a tad bit further North than expected… regardless, we will see snow and that’s a pretty good thing here in Central Kentucky… beggars can’t be choosers!!! HAHA!
Attention Kids: The NWS has issued a free day off school…..whether it snows or not you got a free snow day today…..our latest forecast show maybe a few flurries, regardless of amounts however our wsw and wwa for the potential of nothing have worked to get most kids a free day out of school….enjoy your warm house and green grass…..check back for later forecast on next weeks BiG snow Storm we have in our GFS sights….patent pending see small print for details
Powdery snow reaching the ground in Frankfort…and the roads are covering over some already. I think it’ll be slick out there in another 30 minutes.
The event is trending as usual. CB was correct last night that this is not a classic winter storm. Schools to the east that canceled school should hope we actually get the snow (same situation about eight years ago and nothing fell).
This system has more opportunity to under-perform rather than over-perform. I thought the opposite last night, but guess I should not be surprised. I mentioned the northern trend yesterday and that is what is happening.
The build up and expectation and likely weak result will jade the unjaded.
Bye.
Trending north like I warned yesterday.
The build up to this one and result will jade the unjaded.
Never doubt the DOME.
yep not reaching ground much, it is from futher west, we here in S/SE KY be lucky to get a inch out of sysatem.
now the upslope will give the usual areas some snow to but overall this not going to be much at all here in my area.
tommy and others was right northern ky on north er the actiopn at.
I will admit that I do see a little bit of “thickening” width-wise (from West to East) on some of the more recent returns…
Starting to snow in Lexington.
So you think we won’t get it at all or not as much? How much?
SE Lexington…not a flake in the sky yet. Hard to believe they’ve already closed schools. Hope we get enough to make that worthwhile!
just started snowing–near veteran’s park, lexington–little bit of snow/ice still on the roads from Tues, this could get slick fast
Nothing in Corbin yet. We may end up with very little, if any.
temps. have risen from 8 overnight to 17 right now with overcast skies, awaiting on the snow SHOWERS.
Funny, I was laying in bed this morning, thinking hmmm…chris never went into storm mode on the blog with this one, so it apparently isnt gonna be much…and then BAM! he said it!!!…LOL…thats kinda like TWIGHLIGHT ZONE freaky stuff…LOL..LOL..LOL…
snowing in Gtown. tops of cars already covered.
VERY light snow falling in Richmond.
I think that was a good call. The last thing we need is school buses running around town with loads of kids with the type of blowing snow we are expecting. Looking to the west, it was evident that forecasts have been verifying, so…
Hoping to be getting snow by now. Temp. up to 20, some blue sky popping out here in Rockcastle co.
Yeah, I noticed you didn’t go into threat mode, I think a couple people made comments about it. Yet you had a snow map out… Hmmm…
Has CB changed his strategy/approach? Trying to outsmart the snow dome? 😉
16* in eastern Laurel Co. Up from 8* ~11pm last evening. “Clouded up on a frost” which my dad used to say would result in “falling weather (IOW — precip). I lurk here often. Can’t seem to get very excited about this event. Also — do I see a DRY SLOT in the radar??!!
Well the winds and cold will be bad.
And the snow we get will be blowing around, or has that changed?
I’m going to wait and see how much snow falls before I think it won’t be much. I already have snow on the ground. With this new snow and blowing and drifting, I’m thinking it’s going to be bad.
Snow is starting to pick up in northern Madison. Driveway and car has a coating.
here is what belski is saying for the LOU. metro area, likes like its not doing to well to our west!!
It looks like this storm is underperforming in many area. St. Louis was expecting 4-6 and they got 2-3.
It now looks like about 1-3 here in Louisville for today.
An inch or less for tomorrow.
……………………………
I say WAY TO GO CHRIS!!! on NOT going into STORM MODE, and even the NWS in JKL. held their ground on this one and didnt pull the trigger on any WSWatches and went with an advisory….so by the looks of things, the WARNING in north central KY. may be downgraded to an ADV. before its all said and done….
Well … it has stopped. lol
Think I’ll take a nap.
welcome to the WX-blog..dont just lurk, post your comments along with the rest of us wx loving nuts…good to have ya aboard!!
well not a true WINTER STORM is why CB held off, a TRUE WINTER STORM is a southern low u know, a clippewrt is well a clipper snow advisory now klnown as WWA.
Woke up to 16, temp has risen to 21. Snow showing on the radar, but not reaching the ground yet. Would say not too long before we start seeing it, although, we have a little blue sky here, too. Clouds are about to win out. Coming from West, and Northwest. (clouds, that is)
You might be right, who knows.
But I wonder if St Louis is a good model- would they get the gulf moisture that is impacting our area?
If Belski’s forecast verifies, 1-3 and another inch possible tomorrow- thats a total of 1-4 inches. If it’s the upper end of that, that stays within the range NWS forecasted when they put the warning out- which was 2 to 5 inches.
No school today for the state…just on the word of snow threat…and no snow! Wow you have power, we need to get you all to make this call at least once a month on Monday’s and Friday’s!! Seems as though when the word is out…it never really comes…my wife was right again…as usual.
I got point from TG on his blog:
Blowing and drifting snow will be likely beginning late Thursday and continuing through Friday as winds gust out of the northwest from 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts over 30 miles per hour at times. This snow should be very dry and powdery so it will be blown around easily, plus this will make it very difficult to get an accurate measurement of snowfall totals. That’s why I think we need to look at the overall impact of this storm with the snow, wind, cold, etc; instead of getting so caught up in whether you got 2″ or 4″ of snow for example. In my book it doesn’t matter all that much when things are so wintry in so many ways!
Most of the local news media blew this out of proportion, even when the northerly trend was obvious last night. I tried to post, but kept getting “moderation”.
As CB said, “It is not a classic winter storm by any means”. This is more an advisory and this was obvious last night.
We still should see a few inches, but the event is under-performing.
Still, some snow is better tha none, but people in panic mode buying up bread and milk for this is funny. I guess we will see some bread and milk yard sales now 😉

HAd a few flurries in SE Lex..has already stopped.
the radar returns do not look impressive at all if anything the southern edge is drying out, and TN. is IN A MAJOR RIP OFF ZONE, snow to the north and to the south of them…
Time to move on to BIGGER THINGS!!! clippers, and upslope snow has been the theme in my yard for a week now..lol..lets start talking about that 7 days away blizzard that always pops up somewhere…lol…or maybe that SUNSHINE AND 41* forecasted for Wednesday, I may take the FAM. on a PICNIC at the park if its that warm!!!…LOL…
Wow- that should have said “good point” not “I got”
Looks like I need more coffee. 🙂
Wow…the DOME lives. There is enough snow here to look like a LIGHT frost, and thats it…8:55am and NOTHING falling…
How much snow were you forecasted to have before 9AM? I don’t think it was anything more than you have. 🙂
Just now starting to snow in Somerset. Slowly started in about the past 5 minutes or so. Temp at 21.
Where’s the snow? Nothing falling here in Ravenna, just my hopes of seeing snow.
Winter Storm Warning result:
Nothing left to see here folks, please move along;)
The vent is trending north and breaking up over KY. Expect the low end of CB’s snow call.
I tried to post last night, since the trend was obvious, but media still screaming snow storm. Sad, but I am sure they are getting commisions from the grocery stores 😉
Good Morning everyone. It is a very cold morning here in Whitley County. I’ve been out to check on the puppies once this morning and they seem to be okay. Even with a dog box full of cedar chips and a blanket over the dog house I still worry!
Now I’m afraid we won’t be getting any snow. I think we have been moved to 1-2 if we are lucky.
Any thoughts?
OH BOY…LOL…SUNNY SKIES AND TEMPS. RISING to around 20 right now !!!…MAN OH MAN…
FORMULA FOR SNOW IN KY.!!!
ANTICIPATION = EXPECTATION = ANNIHILATION!!!!..MUHA HA HA HA !!!
CB was smart stating “This is not a clasic winter storm by any means”.
It really is not even that- it is advisory level and has been since last night.
Moderation heck prevents Bubba posts, but probably for the better.
Oh give me a break! So the kids aren’t in big huge busses being driven by people with commercial licenses. Now they are in small cars running around town being driven by people talking on cell phones and drinking their morning coffee. See a difference? Which is safer?
If it’s so dangerous for kids to go to school, why isn’t it so dangeous for people to go to work?
I agree…the main impact of the low wasn’t supposed to be here till after 9
We still could see up to three inches by Saturday morning, but the blowing effect will make it seem like a bust.
Some spots will have no snow and others five or six inches. If anyone doubts the dome, look is happening as the event crossed KY. Trending north and breaking up to some degree.
Moderate snow falling in and around Lawrenceburg…all side roads and a few main roads are covered…about a half inch or so accumulation at this time.
Began snowing in Cynthiana about 45 min ago.
my local forecast on the weather channel reads like this.
Today, cloudy with snowshowers developing with a high around 36* !!!chance of snow 80% total accumulation expected LESS THAN 1 inch..
NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A TYPICAL SNOW DAY IN MY PART OF KY.!!! I dont know about the 36 though…lol..
Bubba- not disagreeing with you at all, but a question.
When I looked at models and discussions, I never thought the low was coming through Kentucky. It looked to me that the expectation was that moisture from the gulf would follow the path of the cold front, and that would be the source of most of our snow today.
Then tomorrow, it would be lake effect snow. Did you have a different take on it?
Looks beautiful outside in Clay Co. Sunny skies. I know it hasn’t hit us yet, but I’ll be shocked if we get over 2 inches.
Sun, and 36? Where are you?
The weather channel is a joke
Sounds like you need a break.
Snow has started to fall here in Lex. Will be interesting to see how much accumulates through the day. Radar doesn’t look that impressive.
Big mistake not doubting me 😉
I tried to explain yeaterday, but picture wthe system moving west to east being a truck and then a car coming from the south T-bones the truck. The result is a northerly change in direction. That would be the impact of southerly flow for this type of system.
This is why I mentioned the system will either under or over-perform. There is little wiggle room for anything else with thsi type of system.
I would like to knwo how much our local media got from grocery stores hyping this puppy, even this morning 😉
I am the first to admit I have mental issues, but even Bubba saw the trend. Seem to end up saying this a lot in the past five years 😉
No Snow yet Here in Rockcastle Co.
Snow forecasting must be hard to do. I remember many times of forecasts of flurries then a foot of snow (The weatherman that swore only flurries, wore a clown suit the next day on the air)On the other hand I remember winter storm warnings, Schools closing due to forecast then just flurries.
I am still hoping for enough snow to cover the ground anyway. If it was only like winter of 78, 79.
Im in KNOX CO. almost on the TN. border, and YES the sun is shining…disgusting I know…lol..
With no rebuttal other than that, you obviously agree with me then.
Shew I’m glad you said that, I was beginning to feel like an idiot, being the only one saying the sun was shining…lol..lol..
Nope
Well, in a nutshell, this ‘storm’ is quite a bit like me.
Shows a lotta promise all along, only to be a bumbling underachiever when all is said & done….lmao!:)
Lt. Snow/21°
a whoppin’ 3/4″ accum. Bardstown proper..
{{{siggghh}}}:(
Thanks Tim!
I’ll try to muster something up occasionally. 🙂
I enjoy an occasional snow, since it is why I have not been without a 4WD vehicle since 1985, but the last several years it has been difficult to justify!!
winter storm warnings are embarassing nws right now, at best this is 1.5” for lexingto 🙁 parts of nky may see 2-3” best snows pretty far north of ky this go around.
you’re so proud of yourself.
I think you need to start your own blog, and start making SPECIFIC forecasts, including snowfall maps.
Then I can come over and tell you you are going to be wrong. 😀
its been snowing roughly 2 hours in campbellsville and still snowing lightly with less than an inch….temp is 26 degrees
Snow is filling back in to the west again and the RUC shows another band of snow developing in a few hours! Don’t lose hope!
this warning is funny! we really need an advisory or spcecial weather statement.
20 degrees and snowing here in Boone county. Pavement is covered.
RADAR IS FILLING BACK IN TO THE WEST…C’mon…lets get a lil excited about it here in central Kentucky.
Light snow in Mercer Co. Fine and very dry blowing around on the backroads. I don’t expect more than 2″ looking at the radar.
very light snow just started. Temp 24* in Rockcastle co.
There you go. 🙂
NWS Louisville said in their discussion that the majority will fall between 10 AM and 6 PM, and people gave up at 6:00 this morning. lol
I agree with you completely.
nobody ever happy with what they got…always wanting more, more more!!!!lol
Okay… I’ll say it because I know everyone else was thinking it… what’s kinda freaky is that you were lying in bed thinking of Chris… just saying…
19°F with light to moderate snow all morning long so far…no complaints here. The roads look like a hockey rink.
Goooood Moorrrniinnnggg Bloggers!
Just started snowing down here on the border. And we have warmed up to 22*..considering we had dropped to 12* around 1:am. Hope everybody stays warm and safe if your traveling out today!!
6/10 of an inch here in south louisville. light snow falling now. Looks like only 2 inches of snow today here. roads are passable.
This is about what the other forecasters had been predicting for a day or so. I was hoping for more but not really expecting it. Hopefully one of these days a big’en will sneak in and surprise everyone.
Teacherman: as a 36 year and still going strong Teacherwoman-I would rather ‘buy’ a day at the end of the year than have the panic, chaos and indeed possibility of a bus, teenage driver or mom in a van being injured or killed than go to school and then mid-day call it off….when the weather deteriorates it goes fast and in many places a bus run is over an hour. I have been at school until 7 pm getting kids safely home. Think about that before you snark, please
snow coming down at a steady pace here in Georgetown…and the flakes are getting bigger…
Light snow starting to fall in Morehead
Overperform or underperform? Kind of hard to be wrong with that set of parameters don’t you think.
From my perspective in downtown Lexington, I can see snow accumulating on rooftops. Obviously I can’t measure it, but it made me wish we didn’t have to use so much salt on the roads. LOL I know government has to, but… 🙂
I was waiting to hear from you Linda..lol..I was wondering if the snow was reaching the ground along the border or not…send it on over…lol..
We should still get a decent snow out of all of this. CB nailed it by the way he worded it. Yesterday afternoon, it looked good for up to seven inches for places by Saturday, but the event has trended north a tad less intense. CB went out of his way to stress the total snow event is through Saturday. We may see the low end of the totals, but you never know 🙂
The only issue is figuring out how much we actually get with dry blowing snow. Had the local media not pushed the “winter storm” angle and approached like CB did and a few others, people would not be expecting more than what it is.
Some snow is better than no snow. It should be pretty to look at blowing around. Still plenty of winter left, but I still suggest we have more chances for big ice than snow in this area.
at least five school buses were involved in accidents this morning in Jefferson County. Thankfully they were minor and no injuries reported. Now it looks like they are considering an early dismissal.
Teacherwoman I am not snarking about them closing school, I am rather pleased and I would always err on the side of caution. My snark comes at the weather and the weather forecasting. No one really knows what the weather really will do except God, but we as people create hype and hysteria, I think that is amusing. Think about past large storms, very rarely are they mentioned by the media, but the ones they talk about rarely develop. Trust me I am very concerned about the safety of all people.
NWS Louisville has released another multimedia hazardous weather briefing. Not much has changed from their earlier discussions:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/images/lmk/mwb/07Jan2010/07Jan2010b_controller.swf
Nothing like those good ole classic 80’s tunes..lol…found some pretty cool classics of REO speedwagon on youtube…oh those good ole high school love songs…LOL…. THAT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH WEATHER..I KNOW, I KNOW…..:)..waiting on the snow…how’s that…lol.
Beren snowing here for about 30 minutes now. Ground is getting white, pavement here IS white, cars covered, and still snowing pretty good. Beautiful!!!
Since there is a lot more range in the middle than the upper and lower tolerance points, there is less room for error. If you are looking at this from a binary standpoint, then yes, you are correct 😉 Pick your perspective 🙂
Let the results speak for themselves. Good luck figuring out what actually falls though. Dry and blowing equals guessing on an actual total.
I feel like a dull and weak version of Bill Murry in Groundhog Day. Time for me to wake up out this rut.
I will post again if I see a big event is likely.
Later taters! 🙂
here are local webcam shots from around the bluegrass

Well, I can honestly say that my kids will be safe and sound at home all day. I think Fayette made a good call.
That is about what the weather channel is saying for us in Laurel County.
Intermittent light snow or snow showers becoming steadier late. High 32F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 80%. About one inch of snow expected.
not all of us have SICK TWISTED MINDS EITHER !!!!
25* and flurries in eastern Laurel Co.
The snow has begun here in Whitley County near Williamsburg! Yay! Bring on the snow. The wind sure is whipping around out there though. Brrr…
I was just posting what I observe….nothing personal to NON DOME believers
here are the webcam shots from around ky. from wkyt.
http://www.wkyt.com/weathercams/misc/3899481.html
Light snow has just begun here in Barbourville, in knox co. as well.
temp. is 25*
So are we on for the 3-5 or should I still not get my hopes up? 🙂
Light snow coming down in Whirlin Sterlin (Mt.Sterling)
time to start looking at the 7 day storm now.
Don’t laugh, what is upslope?
*flurry-like snow since about 8 this morning in Paris. Seems to be getting heavier just now. Sidewalks covered.
Continuous light snow in Gtown-maybe an inch on the deck. The radar is continuing to fill in beyond Louisville. I think the 2-5 range will be accurate here.
Hello, snow lovers. I’m on Union College’s campus in Barbourville right now, and it’s snowing very lightly. You kinda have to squint to see it. Hope it picks up a bit soon. I enjoy watching it come down, regardless of how much accumulation results.
Everyone stay safe and warm today!
just under an inch so far in versailles with slick roads.
Will be lucky to get inch in Berea.
good morning neighbor!!!..
Jefferson County schools will be releasing students one hour early.
Ok so i am new to this board, what is the 7 day storm, is there one out there that could give us here in Lexington some real snow.
Rolo, You know better than that. Vegas should give odds on the chance that any model hits with regards to snow 7 days out.
Nothing to laugh at- it’s a good question, and I had to look it up before myself.
One of the pros can chime in, but my basic understanding is that it involves systems moving from lower elevations to mountains or higher elevations. As it gains altitude, it is forced cooler. That in turn causes condensation, where clouds/moisture builds, and if cold enough, snow.
Now one of you professional weather people tell me where Im wrong lol
yes but u gotta remember those totals, are through saturday* morning. lol

Coffeelady,
How is the snow looking in Pulaski co. now?
why is the humidity level going down with snow on the radar
Look at the dry slots filling in with heavy bands of snow to the west! This aint over yet folks!
Bubba, I think most people are like me and don’t like what you have to say! 😛 LOL In no means do I not respect your opinion, I don’t like it b/c it usually is right and translates to mean little or no snow. 🙁 That being said, I look for your comments first when I get on this site b/c you are right and even my husband says, “What does Bubba have to say?” LOL So basically, you are a celebrity. You and Mitch are my go to guys and I think you are GREAT! Keep Posting! Thanks for your being willing to post for our area.
BTW, we have some sweet snow falling!!! 🙂 ….even if it is short lived!!!
Moderate to heavy band of snow moving into Louisville area…will be moving into the bluegrass region within the next hour according to John Belski in his chat room
Snowing moderately in Somerset (south) now. We probably have about half an inch so far, and it is a little wetter than I had thought it was going to be.
Still, a beautiful thing to watch. One of our cleanup guys was out a bit ago, and said that the roads are getting slick here. Traffic on Highway 27 has clowed quite a bit, and I have seen numerous salt trucks going by.
Holding steady at 25 degrees with moderate snow falling.
JavaJoe:
Where are you in downtown Lex? I’m directly SE from CentrePasture.
Moderate snow in Berea, temp is at 27.5°
Still coming down, and everything getting white. Flakes go from large to small, but still coming down at a steady pace. Probably abourt half inch on the ground where I am.

* TIMING… INTERMITTENT LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON… THEN TAPER TO JUST FLURRIES FROM WEST TO EAST BY MID AFTERNOON. TOTAL SNOW AMOUNTS SHOULD RANGE FROM 2 TO 4 INCHES ACROSS SOUTHERN INDIANA… AND FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY.

Still nothing reaching the ground in Ashland… (Maybe as soon as I post this, it will start.) 😉
I dont know about pulaski co. but here in knox co. just very light snow/flurries, and according to radar the heaviest is on top of us right now..havent had enough to even accumulate YET..by the looks of the webcams, somerset had a nice coating anyways…
I know and I am sorry. 😉
I knew when I woke up this morning that the WSW would eventually be dropped in favor of the WWA, really couldn’t figure out why the WSW was issued in the first place.
Question:
Are we still anticipating the nothwest flow w/additional accumulations for tonight and tomorrow? If so… are we still looking at high ratios?
Not snowing here yet, just north of Hazard, but it looks like it will any minute.
Anyone doubting the power of the snowdome and it’s central core need only look at the radar right now and see the clearing from Frankfort down through Versailles.
SMILE Bubba.. IT’S SNOWING!
It’s good to have an inch then a COLD 33 degree rain, now ain’t it? Let the MET’S worry about the petty stuff when we are dead and forgotten about! Plus side, this is going to be nothing compared to what is about to happen.. Let’s hope next week’s storm is a REAL SNOWSTORM or THUNDERSTORMS, NO ICESTORM. I like our new chances, don’t you? I’m sure you have the snow shovel ready just incase?? Back to back storms coming for you to downgrade for us.. shh its going to SNOW, don’t mention RAIN or ICE.. you might jenx it!! lol 😉
Grocery store would’ve made money from me anyways, I go to the store regularly once a week. Milk is like a life-necessity in this house, might be cheaper buying a cow! lol
Boyle County- 28* Flurries/ light snow…estimated 1/4 to 1/2 inch thus far.
ALERT: Strange white substance is falling from the sky in Campbellsville,Ky!
Excellent! It’s snowing in Ashland now. 🙂 The flakes are getting bigger and more frequent.
Looks like another busted forecast for the most part. Unless it really starts to crank up we won’t even get close to the low end of the snowfall forecast. For some reason snowfall must really be hard to get right. Maybe Bubba can give a little insight on why it is so hard to predict accurate amounts (at least for KY.)
I wish we could have a live chat with Chris! Oh, Chris, where are you? JK
I know you are very busy. I appreciate the work that you do for us.
yep, good call!
i must say i’ll take an inch over nothing, ppl in TN got stiffed bigtime, at one point models showed 4-8 down there i’ll take whatever at this point, 1” and still snowing in lex
Snow big flkkes in Corbin. The now is much wetter than i though it was supposed to be. We have maybe 1/2 inch.
What happened? Just light snowing falling in Lexington. I want my 2 – 5 inches of snow! My daughter is wanting a snowman. Does the main snow supposed to be tonight?
the dome is what childrens pajamas should ne made of, i am with rolo lets focus on next system
did you all really think it would snow? come on, you live here in Kentucky.
Before everyone starts screaming about busted forecasts, remember Chris’ snowfall totals map is through Saturday morning… still a lot of time between now and then.
Thanks!
Java and Mike make fair comments and I see their points. People may be a tad touchy due to LOABW syndrome. “Lack of a big one”
I still suggest the media got caught up in the hoopla and now there is no bread or milk for a 200 mile radius 😉
yea but you know deep down the snow weenie in me always holds onto hope. like bill deatrieve, he knows his wife aint never coming back but he romantisizes about her returning to him and them having children…so it is with me and snow
How about we wait until the storm is over FIRST…and then call it a disappointment. Geez people…the front isn’t even through here yet. There is lots more snow still to come.
See, even I have it:
Should be “LOABO” syndrome. All I do is look at the trends. This is much easier than the complex efforts of a real forecast. Again, that is why it is Bubba 😉 level. I make no assertion I am doing some complex calculations. Aint’ got the brain cells for such voodoo 😉 Nor the model access for data inputs to paramters and conditional scenarios to derive solutions. That is CB and TG’s job and they both do very well.
Oh, please don’t get bubba started…Sometimes he likes to speak with the most annoying ” I told you so..” tone. Year after year -we are let down here and it has taken it’s toll on bubba. Nothing but love bubba…
Echo, it is dangerous for people at work, too. The issue with children is the fact that if something happened to them en route to school, or to their homes, the schools would definitely be blamed for not calling school out. The lawsuits would be numerous.
Most people worry about their kids in bad weather, just a fact. In the business world, however, less sympathy exists for the working class.
And that cell phone thing exists, unfortunately, in all types of weather.
Mornin’, Tim! Or, I guess, afternoon now…
It snowed a little more heavily for about 15 minutes around 11:20, then subsided again. How is it your way?

I thought we had a good shot, but the system was trending north later in the evening. I thought this one had a good shot for the whole state up until the dreaded trend started.
Still have some chances coming. Just need to avoid ice being one of those chances.

I think everyone has LOABS syndrome: “Lack of a big snow” that is. I messed it up in Madison’s post, but moderation is getting to me more than the LOABS syndrome is.
I am getting a bit jealous, everybody is reporting snow falling, but I have yet to see a flake. The radar shows possible light snow over us, but it is not hitting the ground yet. Maybe it will be here soon.
Not likely this will be a bust, but perception will be there regardless, since snow has a hard time staying in one place when real cold and windy.
May be the low end, but CB’s range should still be money.
Wow- I actually agree with Bubba AND WxMan. 🙂
People need to relax. The forecast was the total, and can hardly be called busted. Yet.
Shane, hadn’t seen you post in a while, maybe I just missed it, but good to hear from you.
light snow in floyd county.
