Good afternoon, gang. Cold and dreary weather continues across much of the bluegrass state today. Showers and slightly milder air blankets parts of eastern and southeastern Kentucky. Even here, the temps haven’t responded as much as I thought.
The pattern over the next several days will feature more of the same. You are seeing the forecast models do exactly what I’ve talked about and that’s come in colder with each run. Now, colder doesn’t mean truly COLD weather. I’m talking in relation to the absurd warmth they have been showing.
Anyway… temps Wednesday will be in the 40s for highs with a shower chance. Thursday is a little colder with upper 30s and low 40s with a better chance for a shower.
Friday and Saturday will feature heavy rainfall of 1″-3″ for many areas. Temps may spike into the 50s with an area of low pressure working on top of the region. That departs and leaves us in the 40s again for Sunday and Monday. Have I mentioned 40s are NORMAL for highs this time of year? 😉
This brings us to an interesting setup for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. We will see energy diving in from the northwest and that may be pushed by a touch of arctic air. There is some indication we get this energy to partially phase with some energy from the south. The new Canadian says this cuts off and forms a healthy storm system that impacts the region…
That’s rather interesting and is something the model has been hinting at before. This is the type of setup that will result in models showing something like that… losing it… then showing it again.
The poor GFS is even finally seeing the trough digging in from the northwest, but just doesn’t know what to do with it…
Moral of the weather story… next week isn’t likely to be a mild one around here. The same people who promised 60 for Thanksgiving (turned out to be among the coldest on record and it snowed) and blowtorch weather for this week should probably look at the actual weather and not what the GFS MOS tells them.
I will have another update later today. Have a great day and take care.
Thanks, Chris. We really appreciate the work you do here and on TV etc.
I appreciate you Chris. I used to live in Kentucky but now live in Morristown TN. I continue to read your blog at least twice a day and the comment section. I sure wish you would add Morristown TN to your weather blog. “I GUESS A GIRL CAN DREAM BIG” You are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Chris!!! It would be nice to have a few flakes flying around Christmas time.
Thanks so much for keeping us informed, Chris! Love this blog!
