Good Saturday everyone and welcome to an arctic weekend in the bluegrass state! Many areas got in on a light, fluffy snow overnight to go along with the coldest temps of the season. Throw in some winds and you have the making of a good old fashioned arctic weekend. This is the beginning of what should be one heck of a winter weather week ahead of us.

Today will feature some leftover flurries or snow showers… especially in the east. Temps will struggle back into the low 20s and winds will be very gusty leading to single digit wind chills. You can track both of those here…

Current Temps

Wind Chill

Temps later tonight will drop toward the single digits in many areas. Winds will continue to be on the breezy side leading to wind chill readings from 0 to -10. This is in the danger category so take all necessary precautions.

Sunday will see more of the same with highs in the upper teens and low 20s with a mix of sun and clouds. A few flurries or snow showers will be possible once again… especially in the east and north.

A much better northwesterly wind flow off of Lake Michigan will setup by later Monday into Tuesday. This will combine with a weak disturbance to bring a better shot of accumulating snows for much of the region. Temps will remain COLD with low teens by night and low 20s by day.

This will bring us to an arctic system that will move through the region Thursday into Friday and should bring a widespread arctic snowfall that can lay down a few to several inches of powder. Here is what the GFS shows…

Thursday Morning

Thursday Afternoon

Those would be some very high snow ratios with arctic air in place and even colder air pouring in. Backlash snows would then carry us for a couple more days. Can we go below 0 next weekend? Hmmm… it’s a thought.

I will have more updates as needed later today so check back. Have a great Saturday and GO BIG BLUE!!!

Take care.
