Good evening. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the weather for next week as our pattern continues to grow into a very active one that takes on much more of a winter look.
We have one system that rolls right on top of us on late Monday and Tuesday. That one brings rain and falling temps with some flakes possible as the system exits to our east.
Another system will quickly follow that up late in the week into next weekend. That one could grow into a much bigger storm system and there is a heck of a signal for that coming from the models. The Canadian Model has done very good with the medium range of late and it shows this storm to our south…

That model will change and so will all the others because the southern branch of the jet is loaded with storms shooting through ever few days. That continues into Christmas week as things grow much colder around here…
If you’re a snow and cold lover, you have got to be in love with the pattern the models are showing.
Take care.
Just hope Lucy’s not priming that football for a long winter.
Roger likes snow but that last map shows the 540 north near the Great Lakes. Don’t we need it further south to get the fluffy stuff? Roger hoping “next week” doesn’t become overly common here.
That’s actually showing the 500mb levels and not the thickness lines.
33/32 rule. Winning ky weather forcasts since 1999
Until the snow hits the ground and accumulates, everything the models show, at this point, is fake juice.
We’re all grizzled veterans of KY winters and are familiar with the infamous 33/32 storms, warm air advection and wimpy backside snows.
This is the last time I will ask for you to stop trolling.
Here is another vote for a white christmas! We need at least 6 inches on the ground. Christmas week sure looks fun in the weather department.
For the previous week there was a continuing discussion of the snow flurries that were to transpire over the last 48 hours. The point was made about how others were underestimating the northwest flow and how this accentuates what we get, etc., etc.
What happened exactly? Apparently, “others” (whomever that is) felt that we weren’t going to be getting anything worth mentioning and that’s why they were poo poo-ing this northwest winds effect or whatever. Did the NW wind not kick in and thus why we received unicorn level of snowflake sightings, or were the temps higher than expected?
I believe they were called “Festive Flakes”
The NW flow was in response to cold and clouds and the whole 9 yards. These people were calling for a MASSIVE warmup this week.
This is your final warning on trolling.
Whining is getting old and it’s only December 10. Talk weather or we won’t be talking at all.
I’ll talk weather. I was seeing forecasts for warmer weather while you were calling for colder and POSSIBLE flakes. I have to admit I did see a few but nothing much. But it is not like you were talking a big snow.
Back on the other warmer forecasts. Yep, those slowly came down on the forecast highs that I was seeing those places. I figured as much with what you were showing and saying. Sure, you are not right every time. But even when you are “wrong” you tend to be the closest. And of course this is weather and things can change even a few days out.
In the end I come here to read some quality human input and also see models. You do a great job with this and I appreciate it.
I am NEVER going to be 100% right with any forecast. That’s just impossible for anyone and I assume people understand that… especially when I try to cover 120 counties. I give people a place to talk all things Kentucky weather, but some want to turn it into Facebook. 🙂
I think the close game tonight has folks in “half-empty” mode 😉 🙂
I agree Chris!! So sick of the whining! I hardly read the comments anymore! I just love your weather blog minus the comment section 🙂
Chris thanks for all you do… Geez these people expect u to be right 100% of the time… You get it right way more than u get wrong … Thanks again
Love how you’re responding to the whining! Keep it up! We haven’t even officially entered winter yet, keep the faith
Thanks Chris. Please don’t let the trolls/negative Nancy’s get you down.
We really enjoy this blog and the constructive weather talk from most of the folks.
As the songs says, “Let it snow, Let it Snow, Let it snow”!
The whining is old. Some of you need to spend a single winter in upstate New York. You’d probably return to KY thanking God for the cold rain.
I appreciate this site more than I’ve said, Chris, as you really do have a great bead on the weather. The NW flow you talked about kept it both cold & gray when others were calling for a great mild-up. I know this…when I need to know in advance whether to plan for nice & mild or cold & nasty at my Christmas party a week from Saturday, this site is where I will be coming to first.
True dat. For that matter, the extended snows we had in the late 70s and early 80s got old in Kentucky.
If we had winters like that every year, people would complain that CB called for sunshine and 40, but we got snow instead 🙂
Chris I trust your forecast more than anyone. You are usually right and you do keep our spirits up when it comes to the snow we are all hoping for. Keep up the good work. You are the best.
Apps say u people don’t look for trends.Don’t know what lays ahead..Strong strong signal for some goodies around Christmas..Only thing Apps don’t like so far is the +NAO..But this will change in Jan..Lots of snow and ice to make everyone happy..
Hmmm, 3rd person…. Is this “Roger”? 😉
