Good Tuesday, weather friends. Some black ice is causing travel issues early today as colder continues to settle back into the bluegrass state. That cold keeps showing up, even as we have an overall milder spell ahead of us. That’s probably a good signal that we have a lot more cold yet to come.
Be careful if you’re going to be traveling early today as some black ice will be a good bet. Untreated roads will especially be slippery. We could continue to see a touch of freezing drizzle showing up from time to time through early Wednesday. That’s especially true across the southeast.
Highs today will range from the upper 20s to low 30s, but gusty winds will make it feel even colder than that. Your daily tracking tools…
If you’re looking for some better weather, then you will love what we have cooking for Friday and Saturday. Temps make a run at 50 degrees under partly sunny skies.
Another cold front shows up for Sunday with a big drop in temps…
That could even produce some snow showers or flurries…
Highs Sunday into Monday could be back in the 30s with lows nearing 20 degrees. So much for a massive warm up that lasts for days and days, huh?
Temps should rebound for a day or two after that, but a storm system will follow that up and should unleash more cold. Arctic air should get involved again late next week into the following week as a big block develops across the west coast into Alaska.
Updates later today. Take care.
Any chances for a good snow this year? Thanks for the update?
December 2015. Lol
And north of I64 😉
My idea of better weather in January is cold and snowy.
I agree.
I am with MikeM…better weather is colder and snowier for this time of year.
This blog is usually my first stop every morning this time of year, but I’m finding myself losing interest with the lack of any snow. Oh well, 50 and sunny this weekend makes for good car-washing weather.
Nothing slick here in knott co this morning, can’t believe they called off school
Of COURSE the cold hangs tough, since no moisture hanging around with it. Rimshot! 🙂
Whomp whomp whomp…..
All the indices are pointing towards a cold and snowy Feb. Oh, wait a minute, didn’t I say that about January. I am finished with winter weather predicting for KY. Never pans out the way I think or want and that is why I am an arm chair Met.
Still holding out hope for a couple good snows by spring.
THINK REFRESH RAIN!!!
I’m okay with a cold February and a warm March. Bring Spring. Tired of these snowless winters.
We will never ever top THUNDER SNOW for terms. That is king 🙂 CB is not even mentioning outlooks weeks away for potential…. Either he is getting like “us” in perspective, or it is a Sgt. Schultz winter.
Both.
I’ve given up on snow this year. My good thoughts are when we get days around 50 degrees now. I will be a much happier person if seeing that forecast come true instead of waiting on snow that is not going to happen. Going to have some good days on Friday and Saturday. Get out and enjoy it. Snow is not a coming and probably won’t come. Go big or go to spring.
Long ago I remember seeing some snowstorms develop from the four corners area out in the southwest and streak our way with some major storms. I really didn’t pay that much attention back then so I am probably wrong, but it seemed that’s where several of them originated. Our climate does seem to have changed to more cold rain than snow, and that our moisture from the Gulf brings too much warm air with it. Someone commented last evening that old timers said that our big snows of the past were because of nuclear testing and fallout. Well, I have heard people say that the severe outbreaks of tornadoes back in 1974 were due to the hole opened in the atmosphere from the Space Shuttle missions. Everybody has theories….some are funnier than others. BTW we were warned not to eat the snows of the early ’60’s.
I guess most of us who did will one day glow in the dark?!? Haven’t yet, but we may have that to look forward to.
50*……Love it.
50’s are on the way, days are growing longer. Not long now folks, not long now.
It’s January.
If modeling don’t change(They won’t) things are looking a lot better the last week of Jan..Slower moving and bigger storms are on the way with plenty of cold air for all…Reserve your ticket now for some fun games..Get a front row seat to a tanking AO..Even that crappy Atlantic may even get involved in the act and don’t forget about the world famous El- Nino who may finally get his act together for one last performance..Watch the heights soar and troughs in the east..You will not be disappointed.. As always though you can watch all this unfold in the comfort of your living room by staying tuned to KWC..
I’ve heard the hype for the last two decades now. No disrespect to you and hopefully you are right, but based on other outlets forecasts for the upcoming time frame, it’s still the old cold and dry to a warm up and rain.
I guess eventually a good storm has to bust through, but two decades of trends is not on our side. I’m seeing lots of 50s forecast anytime moisture is in the area. If history tells us anything, then more than likely we are going to see those temps end up somewhere in the 40s on most days and anytime it’s colder than that it will stay dry.
Sorry..No refunds due too limited seating..
Hmmm… really? Temps to date are running 5 to 8 degrees BELOW NORMAL across the region. We just had 5 consecutive days of single digit lows with a few days below zero. In what world do you live in? Apparently not one based in reality. Poor attempt at trolling.
Btw… how are things over at the UK Ag weather center?
Oh snap –
I am thinking of a Billy Ocean song from Jewel of the Nile:
When the cold hangs tough, the moisture gets going!
Are those the words? 🙂
Thanks Chris. We have had some slick spots this morning and even some light snow for a while earlier. Right now its just cold with a few flurries and some wind. Will welcome the short break as we need to install a new mailbox. Someone has demolished our old one. Need to be able to dig the hole for the new one! Everyone stay warm and safe this afternoon and night! Have a great Tuesday!
