Good Thursday, everyone. A narrow band of light snow and flurries will be swinging across the bluegrass state today and could lay down some light accumulations for some. Last winter would laugh at this system, but this winter has been slow in the snow department, so it gets a little more attention than it should.
The best chance to pick up on some light snow will be along and south of Interstate 64. We may end up with a fairly narrow band of accumulating snow setting up across the southern half of the state. That could cause some travel issues as it works through. I want to stress this is NOT going to be a widespread snowfall and some areas won’t get much at all. I will have your tracking tools in a bit.
Things improve for Friday into Saturday as temps recover. Highs should hit the 50s for one day January thaw on Saturday. Winds will gust up ahead of another cold front that swings in for Sunday with a band of rain showers ahead of it and some snow showers and flurries behind it. Gusty winds will make those 30s feel even colder.
That cold air hangs tough into Monday with another cold front swinging in by Tuesday and Wednesday with some snow showers possible behind it. That sets the stage for a potential bigger system to develop after that. The models continue to show a storm, but vary on placement…
The pattern after that features additional energy dropping in from the northwest as arctic air gets back into the country…
I post those maps just to illustrate the busy times ahead. It’s a very cold signal showing up and it is likely to be joined by an active southern branch of the jet stream. I think. 😉
Back to the weather of today and your dose of weather trackers…

Radar looks nice south of the river and I64. Wow that is a change. Louisville is missing snow to the south?
My thoughts exactly. Just barely missing us.
Someone saw to it that the Snow Dome was firmly in place 😉

Jeepers, Madison county found last winter funny as well, so not much to contrast for laughs this winter.
Holding on hope for my meager two 2″-3″ event outlook. Winning!
Can confirm a good 0 inches has fallen in my part of Richmond. Giving us a total of 0 inches for the year. Still early (ish)… Well, actually, it’s not… #waiting
Very heavy snowfall here in Paducah!!! Whoooo!!!
Next week’s systems are gonna miss to the south of us in central ky….YAWN…come on OLD MAN WINTER, wake up!!!
Hence probably why CB went from noting it yesterday to not.
At least it faded quickly and did not give Lucy time to spot the ball 😉
Thanks Chris. Cold and feels/looks like snow in Lexington.
Id welcome a dusting here in knott co, not had more then a few scattered flakes on the ground this year
Snow dies as it moves east, just another day.
I noticed that when you first gave the forecast of this band of snow last night into today, NOAA was only giving a chance between 4 and 5 PM today. Now, at 10 AM, they are giving an identical forecast of yours for today with a big band of snow on the radar moving east. Thanks, Chris, for letting us know first what it’s really going to do!
Snow Grinch spotted in central KY huffing and puffing and blowing all the moisture south. Whoosh! No snow for us in central & EKY, not as of yet anyway. How to get rid of said Snow Grinch?
Try to look on here a couple times a day. Chris does a great job. I despise cold snowy weather so I’m always hoping for a warm forecast. Unfortunately Chris has been spot on with the cold forecasts!
A coating here in Nicholasville.
Question, will the roads clear by 3 today? I am in Mercer county and everything is covered. With the temps where they are I can’t see the roads clearing .
Dry air winning out, back to the old ways.
yea dry air eating it up..
Virga snow! My favorite slap in the face of all!
It’s terrible best kind ya know. Follows the 33/32 rule
Multiple accidents here in nelson county from the snow. In fact, just up the road it is closed. So I will have to take a longer way around to get to work.
