Good Friday, everyone. Better weather is slowly pushing back into the bluegrass state today and this will kick it up a notch for Saturday. That won’t last very long as another cold front arrives by Sunday. This means we have your typical half and half weather weekend.
The weather today will feature a mix of sun and clouds and that will impact temps. Areas seeing sunshine will see temps hitting the low and mid 40s. Those with clouds may struggle to get to the 40 degree mark.
If you’re picking a day to get outdoors and enjoy… it’s Saturday. High temps will reach the 50s for most areas with partly sunny skies taking over. Winds will be rather gusty, but are you really going to complain about winds with some sun and 50? Wait… never mind… some folks will complain about anything. 🙂
The cold front swings in here on Sunday with a few rain and snow showers. Winds will gust up as colder air moves in…
Another front will arrive on Tuesday of next week and that kicks off the beginning of a active period that introduces arctic air back into the pattern. I will touch more on all that later today. For now, let’s have a little Friday fun with some old school tunes to get you ready for the weekend…
Got any requests for a good weekend song? The request line is open!
Make it a great day and take care.
Todd Rundgren – Bang The Drum All Day
Hey enjoy following you on the weather. I live in western NC and watch your forcast more than our local weather, if that tells you anything… do you think the snow is ever going to get started this year. Have a good one man.
You know the weather is boring whe your favorite met becomes your favorite D.J.
Led Zeppelin – Kashmir
I know it is now a weekend song, but is one of the best ever.
Now = Not
If you could hear our local station you’d heR Kasmir at least once a day! And I agree, it’s one of the best!
A close tie with Funky Town 🙂 😉 🙂
Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting – Elton John
S A T U R D A Y! By the Bay City rollers!
How about Everybody’s Working For The Weedend? Thanks Chris. Have a great Friday everyone.
Now that’s what I’m talking about….ha ha fat thumbs this morning.
“Workin’ for a Livin'” by Huey Lewis & the News. Or was it his Disney-themed side project Huey, Dewey, & Louie? Or his stripped down, 3 piece physical comedy ensemble Dewey, Cheatham, & Howe? I forget.
OK, with the boring weather I’ll add a little story to perhaps spice things up for today. Back in the old day during the November ‘storm’, Bryan Shaw of WHAS was mentioned on this blog as reportedly saying that Chris exaggerates. Soon after that Monty Webb left the station allowing Mr. Shaw to move up to fourth string on the depth chart and receive increased face time on the air. So now when I see he’s on a newscast, I change to another station out of respect and loyalty to Chris. Chris, thanks for all you do for us followers!
Fight! 🙂
Wait, so before Webb left the station, Shaw was FIFTH string!?
How does one station have four mets, let alone FIVE freaking mets??
Miss watching WHAS, as I did growing up. This was before the zomblondies, empty suits, and ridiculous make-up became all the rage. #jackiehaysFTW
…….. Fight Fight!
Wave3 has 6 mets. Kevin Harned, Brian Goode, Andy Weingarden, Ryan Hoke, Lauren Jones, Christy Dutton.
CB can take em’ ! FIIIIIGGGHHHT!
The background on Bing today. So pretty, yet so unknowingly cruel.
Cruel….kinda like our weather….cold and no snow to warm and refresh rain not that is cruel…
What’s really cruel is the ‘Bungles’ losing more playoff games in a row than an team in history and by a wide amount.
The Bills must be really happy since makes their Superbowl losses seem far less choking in scope.
The snow showers on Sunday look to be unimpressive. The moisture looks to leave when the cold gets in next week. Unless something just pops up we will be getting into late January with no to very little snow for most areas of Kentucky. I would rather have a good week of 50’s instead of the cold and no snow that keeps hanging around. After next week average temps start to creep up about one degree a week. Only about 4 weeks away from having average highs in the 50’s for southern Kentucky. Guess with no snow a person can look forward to that.
Long range looking very cold. Winter’s not done yet.
The overnight model runs are horrible for any significant snows whatsoever in KY. They show a big time positive NAO through the end of the month and we simply aren’t going to get anything significant without some blocking.
I got to say, I am very surprised in how this winter is turning out. We are smack dab in the dead of winter and Lexington has only had 2 measurable snows in mid November, 1.5″ and 0.1″. Could November be our snowiest month of the winter? (Or snow season) The pattern has to change FAST and turn harsh in order to keep up with winter forecasts. We are lacking moisture this winter, the past to months plus January to date didst have been below normal so it’s dry out there.
Its better than not having any measurable snow still waiting on that.
Better than Richmond, we have not breached .5″ so far since November. You have got over three times as much snow. Greedy! 😉 🙂
Your .5 is better than my place Bubba. We just breached a trace yesterday for the season 😉 Break out the plow
I actually do not recall ever having THIS low of a total for this long in winter, so my statement in previous winters of, “We have nowhere to go but up” was wrong. Boo!
Setting at a trace here in my woods as well
Technically it wasn’t even winter in November which makes it even more ironic.
The long range models are showing the potential for an early spring starting the second week of feb. Maybe a pattern shift can shake things up and we could sneak a big low from the gulf and some moderate cold air to produce a big one for us.
How about CCR’s Have You Ever Seen the Rain? I do believe we have. And how about Prince’s Purple Rain? If we have to have some rain let’s make it colorful. That’s all for Sunday. I’m very glad to have some warm weather for a day or so. Thanks Chris for all the looks ahead and updates too.
Whether we get a thumper or just more festive flakes, I call it a good day. Why? Because I am alive, breathing and free. 🙂
Absolutely this.
Yeah it’s a good day when you wake up and your above the ground.
And a new dishwasher is being installed in my house right now! 😉
My dishwashers 47 years old and she’s still working just fine. 😉
Tahee! 🙂
Desparado by the Eagles. There is a verse in that song that says (the sky wont snow and the sun wont shine.) Seems appropriate.
Winner!!!
Today’s GFS says you can punt winter for quite sometime. Doesn’t even show the cold returning anymore with an absolute horrible pattern setting up if you want snow.
That’s the operational. The GFS Ensembles speak a whole different story. A cold, cold, story.
I still say expect the unexpected this winter. 😉
chris did not end his blog by saying that another update later today which means if he doesn’t, he is resting up for what could be a busy second half of winter or this a slow time in the weather dept. or he is just keeping us on our toes………..is it a b or c……..or all the above……vote now, please.
None of the above. 🙂
i am glad you can take a joke better than most people……..why are people so serious any more?
Same thing was done yesterday
Think he’s tired of saying the same thing over and over.
There’s nothing to update to be quite honest.
Only thing I see different is that the 12z run of the GFS added in some snow shower activity a week from today. We all know by now how models due a week away. lol
yep they usually show big snows that end up being cold rain/drizzle
I think there is nothing much to report. Easily the weakest snow result and outlook so far in many years beyond this blog history.
What can you do? Max out the credit card for a trip to Aspen?? 🙂
I have a briefcase for Mary Samsonite in Aspin.
So nice out today.. First sunny day since Saturday.
Real day out there today folks, hope you all are well. I enjoy shooting the winter breeze with you uns
LOVER BOY? What the hello? Has Chris moved over to WTVQ 36? Ha ha ha!!
In 1949 it was 69 degrees in 1972 is was -11 today. So in mid jan it can do anything.
as any one seen the eye candy on the gfs model for the end of month and to start feb…….http://ma.noaa.gov/data/gfs/18/gfs_namer_006_850_temp_mslp_precip.gifg.ncep
