Good Sunday folks and thanks for blogging with us. The blog title is aimed at all those cold and snow lovers out there as a change in the pattern will be doing you some good this week! The potential for the first coating of snow may pop up early in the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend and this is likely the beginning of a wintry period that should take us through much of December.

Before we get to the wintry stuff… we have the threat for a few showers coming in over the next couple of days. The rains should hold to our south through today as temps warm into the middle 50s for most areas. The shower chance comes in Monday and this should keep temps down into the upper 40s and low 50s for highs.

The change toward winter gets started later Tuesday into Wednesday as a cold front blasts through the region. This will bring in much colder air to us for the middle and end of the week as a fairly deep trough digs into the eastern half of the country. This is NOT arctic air by any means… but is plenty cold enough to get some flakes flying around here and for a lot of other  folks. This trough should promote the development of a pretty good sized storm somewhere along the eastern seaboard and will be something to keep an eye on. The latest GFS has joined the European model in showing this…

GFS Friday

There will be a couple of disturbances diving southeastward into our region from Thanksgiving Day into Friday. These will give us enough lift to produce rain and snow showers across the region. More snow showers than rain showers should be noted and the GFS p-type map shows this…

If we are to get our first minor accumulation… it would likely come Thanksgiving night into Friday morning. The weather Friday will be perfect for the Christmas shoppers!

The long range into early December will see the cold take hold of much of the country. Combine that with what should continue to be an active southern branch of the jet stream and you can have some fun! The European says we end November and say hello to December with just such a “fun” pattern…

I will have another update later today so come back and see us. Until then… take care.
