Good evening, everyone. I wanted to drop by for another quick update on the winter storm blowing into the Ohio Valley late this weekend. Here ya go…
– A period of light snow may develop from west to east Saturday night into Sunday morning.
– Our storm system continues to look to take a northern track across the bluegrass state. That would push the main impact from snow to our north…
– Rain Sunday afternoon and evening would then change to snow Sunday night into Monday. That’s when accumulations will be very possible.
– Arctic cold funnels in here for Monday on a strong northwesterly wind flow.
Can the track of the low still change? Yes, but all signs currently point toward the low coming right across Kentucky.
A full update comes your way tonight. Take care.
My 1st post shows what my pRt of Ky. Will get …….nothing again!
It would have to take an act from God for the low to shift south by 150 miles.
A 150 mile shift would only happen if we were in the sweet spot.
Thanks for making me laugh, bobt! I needed that in the midst of my overwhelming disappointment for ANOTHER snow bust. 🙁
“from” ANOTHER not “for”
cli·ma·tol·o·gy:
/ˌklīməˈtäləjē/
noun: climatology
the scientific study of climate. 😀
And thermal profiles
😀
Lol. Actually the weather itself is an act of God.
Keep hope alive!
I do not know how you keep your insanity projecting weather in Kentucky.
Ditto
Insanity? 😉
I did say it would be a Vegas roll of nearly all or nothing, but was really not excepting snake eyes. Was hoping for a Bubba buster.
expecting. Whatever.
So, you’re saying there’s a chance!!!
^^ sarcasm
Dumb and dumber. Awesome movie quote. Lol
If your Vince McMahon there’s no chance
What a shocker. No snow for Ky. I was much happier with the 50’s and sunshine we had a couple weeks ago. Bring that back, please.
I’m gonna have to stop being right about these supposed snow storms. People may start thinking that I know what I’m talking about.
And another one bites the dust.
Repeat for 1999-2015
Queen
No surprise.

My favorite is the Weather Channel’s forecast for Sunday night in my area: “Chance of snow 100%”. How’s that for a quality forecast? Why not just say “There is a 100% chance it might snow.” Really going out on a limb on that one, aren’t they? :/
Weather Channel names this storm system Linus…how appropriate, Lucy’s little brother, it must run in the family.
They should name it “Charlie Brown”, since it seems to run at us, then falls on it’s a**…..
Wow that is very close to prophetic….. and pathetic.
Is what it is. Better than the ice we got seven years ago!
for what its worth …wsaz in Huntington at 6 said most models have the northern solution but he don’t think its gonna move that far north…so his forecast kept it more south …talk about going out on a limb …how many Mets go against all the models ? I was shocked
Even CB is in lock step with northern. That dude is a big outlier.
WSAZ met will change his view by morning as a strengthening low will always tend to go NW on the track. We have no larger scale features to stop it such as blocking/-NAO. To say this will trend south is just poor meteorology or just trying to get people to watch WSAZ.
We need to focus on the larger scale pattern features such as developing a consistent -AO / -NAO along with a MJO in the cold phases 7 / 8 and a split flow jet stream. When we see these all in alignment then it will be our turn to track something big, but until we see these trends do not believe the models to deliver significant snow south of the Ohio River. Winter is on the clock and will soon run out of time to deliver. As I mentioned before we could thread the needle for a good snow but highly unlikely in this pattern which has been mostly locked in since early December. Really has been a bleak snow season outside of th NE and upper Midwest.
The met being referenced from WSAZ never said anything about this trending south.
He said he didn’t think the models knew how to properly deal with warm temperatures with moisture coming from the Southwest, and then he said despite that, 4 out of the 5 models he looked at were agreeing, so that’s the forecast he is going with.
Tony cavalier is the one that said he wasn’t buying the models. I was surprised he said that too.
Always the bridesmaid, but never the bride….sigh…..
Well, I said both things couldn’t happen, so no snow storm = Patriots win.
In case you all didn’t see the story today, Google Earth Pro dropped the $399 price tag and is free now. License is emailed after sign-up

I earlier in the week had a hunch the low would track far enough south to give even Tennessee a decent snow. Looks like I was way, way off the mark! 😉
At least the days are getting longer. It’s a bit of a challenge for those of us in the Central Time Zone; it gets dark so early this time of year.
I perhaps need to rephrase that. The amount of daylight hours are getting longer this time of year!
Of course, the days have gradually been getting longer over the ages. I don’t recall the exact stats, but there were 23 hour Earth days about 200 million years ago, 22 hour days roughly 400 million years ago……….you get the picture.
I still have hope! Would love for my daughter to experience a big Kentucky snow storm! Then bring on summer.
Boo.
CB seems to be overly gracious towards the models and historic results tweeting “sometimes” the trends do not go our way. I can think of many other adverbs besides “sometimes”, with “rarely” being the main one.
I get CB trying to remain positive, none the less.
“mostly” Not sure how rarely came up. That would be even MORE positive. Meh.
Bob. Very 1st comment=awesome=comment of the year. Lol
I have given up hope for a big snow storm this year…
Winters in Kentucky stink… Just plain stink…
If there is a God, we’ll have an early spring and be done with this crap!
Cold and dry, slight warmer and wet… Ehhhhh
Bummer.
…”endeavor to persevere”…there’s always next week…
