Good afternoon, gang. Increasing amounts of sun will do little to warm us up as temps hang in the low and mid 20s for the rest of the day. Throw in some gusty winds and it will feel MUCH colder. Where do we go from here? Let’s break it down.
Tonight is another very cold night with some areas dropping into the low teens. Friday looks better with a mix of sun and clouds with upper 30s to lower 40s for highs.
Temps will really spike on Saturday as a nice mild up engulfs the south and plains states…
That looks like a winner of a weather day around here with highs hitting the 50s.
Another system dives in from Sunday into Monday with a few showers followed by colder air and the chance for a few flakes…
Temps bounce back after that as we await a potential arctic outbreak for the eastern half of the country for the middle and end of the week…
As someone who is in full spring mode, I don’t like the look showing up for February and March. Unfortunately, the weather does what it wants to do and not what I want it to do. π
I will be down at the Sport, Boat and Recreation Show at Rupp Arena later today, so I won’t be able to update this evening. The same goes for tomorrow, so stop in and say hi to me if you’re going to be there.
Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
Happy weather day to you and all your people. You do a fantastic job and I really appreciate and enjoy your reporting.
Thanks for the update Chris. I’m with you 100%. Bring Spring! I’m ready to put this dead winter to rest!
Why do people say “bring spring” all the time? It doesn’t arrive any sooner no matter how much it is wanted to.
Why do people have to question what others say? Its their opinion let them be.
Contrary to popular opinion, I am not saying such things to be a “troll” and I have just as much right to question a comment as he does to say it.
Actually don’t see that one listed in the constitution, but OK. You may have a right, but that does not mean you should.
Fire in a crowded theater and all that.
Not the best comparison…..sorry. π
Apt comparison, if you can follow what I am talking about.
BRING SPRING!!!!! That’s all…….
Bring on spring!
Why do people say “bring the snow” all the time? It doesn’t arrive any sooner no matter how much it is wanted.
“bring spring” is a popular saying after November. And winter is over by early December. This is the Kentucky Winter is Over blog.
Trying a little reverse psychology cb? Hope this works
No no there is no reverse psychology there been grumblings of a decent shot of cold air invading later next week. Pattern taking more of a colder look mid February into early March.
Potential for arctic outbreak next week…”you serious clark”
I know it’s hard, but this year how can you now look at models for next two months and say/hint winter is going to be Bad (or not spring like)
If there is an artic outbreak it will be short lived with dusting just like today. This can’t end soon enough.
agreed
Move long boring old man winter.
I know cb is just telling what the models are showing, but with their record this winter I’m not buying it. They have shown cold arctic air moving in all winter and all of it has been short lived. Only two or three days of significant cold in January. Night time lows were above normal most of the month. Give me anything close to normal and I will he happy.
I know cb knows a heck more than i do about weather, but just an example of how bad the models have performed even pretty close range. WKYT was showing 43 degrees for the high on Saturday just two days ago. That has been adjusted to a 55 degree high on today’s forecast for Saturday. Models have been junk. CB has a hard job because of it.
Yet he still gets flak occasionally because others think he “hypes it up”.
Apps is in spring mode..Starting lawn mower’s,weed eaters, chain saws and other essentials today..Grilling out Saturday..Goodbye winter.
It’s still a little early for me, but when I start doing the things you listed above it’s one of my favorite times of the year. I did pick up a few limbs out of the yard yesterday. I used to like snow, but since we quit getting large snows 15 + years ago it’s not been as fun.. Too many misses to even worry about it any more.
Snow proves no match for Canadian train: http://youtu.be/u3aqPmb_h_A
Not to “rain” on anyone’s spring parade, but CB noted we will likely see more of these cold spikes on into March. Groundhog winter.
As in the movie Groundhog day…. minus the snow scenes.
Or maybe with the snow scenes, or if I am lucky just one nice stick around-for-few-days snow scene. π I am holding on hope until the bitter end, when I finally have to crank my stupid old lawn mower.
Crapuweather says artic air returning for the remainder of the month after this weekends warm up. But they said there will still some spring like days mixed in with the cold air. So in other words, more of the same. Cold except when a storm comes then it warms up and rains itself out then the dreaded backside flurries.
Someone on here yesterday said AccuWeather saying an early spring. I think its just a daily guess depending on when you look at the models. Just a guess, but I say we end up pretty much average for the next six weeks.
How could we possibly know arctic air will arrive a week from now with the way the models have been?
I agree. Just changed the forecast 12 degrees higher from two days ago. Obviously long range stuff has been junk this year.
“As someone who is in full spring mode, I donβt like the look showing up for February and March.”
If we get our biggest snow in February or March I would not be shocked. I know that the biggest snows many times when I was in HS, before and after as well, seemed to hit late January-March. Missed a lot of school in February and early March a lot as I recall.
OK folks we had one big snow back in November and we end one big snow late of winter that’s how this dull winter will end.
Who is this “We” of which you speak? (My “we” in my part of Richmond had perhaps 1/4 inch in November and another 1/4 inch in last week with 2 inches in early January…)
Bring winter!
hasn’t arctic air been “coming” for a while now????
It was here today.
yeah but gone tomorrow …we have been hearing from diff people all winter about prolong arctic air since December …its always next week or in the next few weeks …never seems to get here
Anyone else notice that the 32 degree line on the temp map looks almost exactly like, and is portioned almost perfectly with the northern border of our Commonwealth???
Positioned…. autocorrect can kiss my big’ole toe!
