Good Wednesday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. Our wet weather maker was everything it was advertised with a lot of areas picking up a half inch of rain with some local one inch amounts. The rains are pulling out leaving us with a nice couple of days through the rest of the week. The problems are likely coming for Halloween as rains look to hang tough now as chilly air presses in.
Before we get to the look ahead… here is the radar for you to track the rains out of here…
The forecast looks like this…
– Clearing will take place today from west to east meaning some afternoon sun is likely. This will boost temps into the low 60s.
– Thursday and Friday look pretty good for the most part. Winds will begin to gust from the southwest ahead of an approaching front. Highs will warm toward 70 each day. I have noticed a couple model runs have been trying to fire a stray shower or storm well ahead of the front late Thursday into Friday. I will discount that for now… but will keep an eye on it.
– The timing of the frontal passage through here is being pushed back into late Friday night into early Saturday. The reason for the slower arrival is because low pressure is now likely to form along this front to our south and east and ride northward along the front. This European Model image for Saturday morning captures what I am talking about…
That would mean that rains could be very common around here for Halloween! It also suggests temps will fall during the day and will likely wind up in the 40s as a chilly northwesterly wind sets in. This is not the forecast many trick or treaters were hoping for and is one we will pay special attention to with updates as needed.
Behind this departing storm… much colder air pushes in for Sunday through much of next week. The European Model looks pretty chilly…
Something interesting showing up on man of the models of late is a clipper type system diving in here later Tuesday or Wednesday. This could bring some precip and more chilly air into our part of the world…
European Model Tuesday Morning
That is an awful lot of very cold air sitting up there in Canada and it is just itching to come south! Some of the models have been hinting that a chunk of it comes down by the middle and end of next week across the central and eastern part of the country. We shall see how that works out.
If we have learned one thing of late… the models are VERY jumpy with what they have been showing for the next week or two and that is usually a sign of a jazzed up weather pattern. I like the ideas I have out there as there has actually been increasing support among the models of late. Of course, that may not mean very much! ![]()
That’s it for this post. I will have another update later this afternoon so set your alarms to check back. Until then… take care.

MJ…can you tell me why LMK does the zone forecast county by county now instead of grouping counties together? It’s a major PITA to sift through each county until you get to your own. One of the other offices has done this for a long time…maybe Charleston? But I hate to see this at LMK now. 🙁
P.S….woohoo!! the sun is shining!!
Thanks for the update, Chris! I am hoping that the rains will get out of here on Saturday, as I need to do some picture taking, and need for it to at least, be not raining! We will see, I guess….
Weather pattern looks like it can’t decide what it wants to do, so I guess we hae to take a wait-and-see attitude!
Looking forward to your next update! Thanks again for all you do!
Saturday isn’t looking good. Because of the models trying to form low pressure on the tail end of the front, it causes the front to stall some. Which means a WET day and night Saturday. 🙁
I sure do hope the rains stay away for Friday night. Those poor high school football teams have played in the rain the last 4 games in a row…not to mention all of us who have braved the weather to cheer for them. Good luck to all, GO SCOTT COUNTY!!!!!
Football players love to play in the mud! All my favorite games were played in the mud. Same for my friends.
I wish i could blink myself to evergreen colorado, 23” and its still pouring pow!!!!!!!
I really appreciate your professional approach. These are pieces of very useful information that will be of great use for me in future.
