Good evening, everyone. The late day trend among the models is for a much heavier swath of snow setting up along the area I outlined in my earlier update.
NAM
The GFS is a little farther south than the NAM…
The short range model known as the RAP only goes through 11am and shows a similar look…
If those models verify, we would be looking at some serious issues developing because of the amount of snow. That would be a heavy, wet snow that would be falling on top of a lot of snow already out there. Roofs beware!!!!
To the south of all that… snow and sleet are already breaking out in western and southern Kentucky. This can cause accumulations of both before we see more in the way of freezing rain take over later tonight. The potential for significant icing is increasing.
As mentioned, this is a VERY HIGH IMPACT winter storm. The models are just now catching on to the snowpack and arctic air in place and now you will see a lot of forecasts shift based on that. I will update things again tonight and on WKYT-TV at 11.

Here in the western counties touching the border, snow is coming down. Within 10 minutes the road was completely covered and snow plows were out. This is round 2!
keep us updated if you can.
good luck out there
still a nowcaster ….
Good gawd. Can we bring in a perimeter defense? Maybe Davis, Townes and Noel, with Chuck Ccnners and Captain America for good measure? If those models verify for Lexington, we are in deep trouble. Boston kind of trouble.
Latest HRR coming in colder for the I-64 corridor. Southern Jefferson county look for a quick coating of snow within the hour.
Prelude I would like to see it colder for everyone, and miss the freezing rain stuff. Not likely but that is what I would hope for.
I completely agree.
Thanks for the update Chris. I hope the storm keeps us colder than models are showing and we get all Snow. Do you think it is possible for us in southeastern ky to get just snow? Praying and hoping!!!
Praying for all snow here in Letcher as well!!
Thanks Chris. I know it’s going to be a long night for you but I have a question. Will the new snow and sleet and freezing rain have an impact on the change over to rain? Will the rain hit that and freeze, or start it melting? With the ground so cold I’m curious. I’m interested in answers from my fellow weather friends. Stay warm and be safe everyone. Here comes round two!
Coffee Lady I have followed Chris since the beginning. My opinion is it will depend on how hard it rains. If we have heavy rain it might cause local flooding but less risk of ice. If the rain is light we might have some ice issues. Just my thoughts.
At least in my neighborhood, most of the snow was blown off of the roofs so they would only have to deal with the weight of this snow. Decks are a different issue. Might be a good idea to shovel the snow off periodically if the models verify.
Advice needed: I have a flight to San Francisco tomorrow at 2pm. I live in Richmond. Should I even bother to pack?
Yes. I flew to the Virgin Islands the day of the 98 storm. It was interesting (travel agents were cooking free hamburgers in the airport restaurant), bu we left about two hours late. Check you flight status in the morning.
You might also have to make sure the city you connect in will also be ok. You may be able to be switched to another hub/connecting city.
As Bill said, check with your airline (not the airport per se).
I change in Atlanta – they should be OK…
That’s a real tough call. I would pack just in case but also know that flight might not happen at the same time. Hope for the best and expect the worst that’s my best advice
Is this changing over to all rain tomorrow afternoon?
I don’t want to be the fly in the ointment, but these snowfall maps simply convert the liquid falling from the sky into a 10:1 snowfall ratio. So if some falls as sleet or freezing rain, those maps are going to look pretty bad around Louisville across to Lexington.
It seems the trend is colder, but, if you want snow, the it’s more important to look at 4000 to 6000 feet. It may be cold as can be at the surface, but if that warm air nudges in over the I-64 corridor, it’s sleet or freezing rain.
Weather Channel now saying 3-5 inches tonight and 8-12 tomorrow… Get to the store if you haven’t been yet, because we all may be laying really low for a while…
I haven’t been able to go anyplace since last Saturday morning due to my very steep drive.I cleared it as much as I could today so this wouldn’t be more on top of what was there.Looks like I have few more days of not going anyplace.I like snow but after a couple of days I feel isolated.Just have to prepare for at least a couple of weeks when you live on difficult hills.I am ready for it to go away.
I don’t see that
Already dropped it back to 5-8… They have about as much a handle on this as everyone else, which is none.
I saw that too. They changed it and changed it back just as fast. Lol
From the NWS Louisville 7:00 forecast discussion:
Nothing has changed as far as the complexity of this winter system
is concerned. Forecast soundings still waffle around the freezing
line at various times and depths. No one particular model is
handling the current surface temperatures across the region, so what
they have aloft is equally in question. One thing we do know is a
low-level jet will crank up across the region the rest of the night,
with a limit to how far north it can advance based on the position
of an 850mb trough swinging in. Should the limit be the I-64
corridor, we could see a longer period of snow/fzra in that
vicinity, with more snow to the north then in the current forecast.
Have trended the forecast this way, with higher totals in the north.
Will continue to make updates with QPF trends and model temp trends as conditions warrant through the night.
First sign of trouble for my area is that 28 degree temp in Somerset. Just a matter of time before the temp really starts rising from Hazard to Pikeville up 119 to Charleston WV looks like the rain will win after all.
Not so sure about that…
I hope rain wins for my area but I am not very hopeful.I have had enough snow for awhile and I surely don’t want ice.I hope to be able to go off my hill before March. {:^)
Rain on frozen surfaces equal ice i think
Yes but I am wishing for warm temps with the rain.I know, not likely but I can hope.
Agree…SE wind will also warm the lowlands of WV. Very likely could be a cold rain at 33 while points just 20 miles North of Charleston get heavy snow. NWS is picking up on this…last update was 1-2 inches of sleet/snow then change to Rain. Charleston has a chance to go above 32 by 9:00 am on Saturday. Will be a close call but the warm SE wind should win out again.
Currently +19 degrees in Taylorsville with no precipitation…yet.
Watch the radar not the models
I have a feeling that areas of southern KY, around Somerset, London, Mt Vernon, Corbin, Manchester are in for a major icing event tonight and tomorrow.
I really hope you are wrong.:(
So are you thinking this because of snow pack we have here? The surface temps will stay colder.
I’m currently sitting in balmy louisiana, loving the warmth! I’ll be back in a couple of days…looks like my ridge in greenup could get dumped on if it stays snow…what yall think
What does the map that Chris retweeted mean?
The skies have cleared out and temps have fallen off dramatically into the upper teens here.
NWS just posted for far w ky
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/2015/md0080.html
I just got home and my car say 15 in Harrodsburg and 17 in Burgin.
says
I think that this will bust for most areas…
Your 100% wrong on that thought
is central KY getting alot of snow
is central KY getting alot of ice
Looks like the radar is blowing up fast….no southern big storms to rob the moisture.
Just wondering if it will fill in out in Missouri and Arkansas? If not will be a lot less of everything.
as far as precip types you need to realize that what matters as far as sleet and freezing rain is the 850. Surface temps don’t determing if it snows. A few years ago lex had freezing rain at 20 degrees. Lol
Thanks for explaining.
Nasty in Nashville with snow changing to sleet and freezing rain. The plain ol rain can’t get here fast enough, but that may not happen until just before sunrise. Hope my wife and I will have power in the morning.
Does it mean anything that the “rain” line of transition from freezing rain has been sitting in northern Alabama/Mississippi for quite a while now? Trying to gauge impacts for southern KY.
This afternoon, the NWS, in Louisville said 1994 was brought up several times during their in house discussion.
I’ve been saying 1994 since this morning

ONGOING FORECAST.
The old catch 22. They didn’t plow my road here in Lexington until overnight last night. I complained about them not getting to my street until then, now I have about 6 inches of hard snow and ice in my driveway from the plowing and can’t get the car over it. No win for this situation! 🙂
My street wasn’t plowed until TODAY! They just plowed my street a few hours ago! About time, but now another 4-10″ in forecast!
Temp has dropped 3 degrees in Lancaster in the last 90 minutes.
Gulf of Mexico is wide open…..moisture streaming north/northwest
Sorry, meant northEAST 🙂
Has the storm changed at all ? We beed snow line for southeastern Ky not ice line.
Need
very widespread convective look to this system.
Temps are in no hurry at the surface to budge
Per the Fayette Mesonet site, temps in Lexington have risen two degrees in an hour. One degree of which came between 8:10 and 8:30.
Has anything changed? I am in south Mercer ( Burgin ) Hoping the snow line goes south. When do the next models come out ?
More snow than rain now along 64?
Yes, but the break line isn’t too far away…
Chris we appreciate all your hard work. Any changes to snow line for us in southern and southeastern Ky. Need another update!!
Well, we didn’t shovel the driveway this time because it was just TOO cold out. So now we have hard packed snow, with either more snow or ice going on top of that! There won’t be any shoveling, we are just going to have to wait until this stuff melts! Whenever that might be! Think I have learned my lesson.
Just looked at the national radar the moisture that’s coming the south is spread out in pieces as theres a break in them
It will quickly fill in
patience
I brought this up a few comments back. I really thought by now it would be filling in.
Looks like the 00z NAM is torching.
Madison temps rising 5.1 degrees in 45 min.
Dammit, if it means keeping the electric, I’ll shovel another foot of snow somehow, just bring that snow line down from I-64 to Berea.
Live in Logan co. Snow and sleet here now. Hoping the rain will start soon so we can travel to Lexington tomorrow. How much snow is predicted for Lexington and will the run melt any of it?
Does the freezing line being in Miss./Ala. still impact this storm at all?
Cloudy with steady temp of 27 here at my house in Somerset/Pulaski County. Really hope that we get more snow than freezing rain. I can even deal with sleet but ice scares me. Hoping for a little jolt southward. But I have food and water and a kerosene heater for worse case. Stay safe all!
Can we see the new NAM?
Sleet, snow, freezing rain oh my. Anybody’s guess now.
for the life of me, I can’t understand what WHAS11 and WLKY32 are seeing that the others aren’t. They are sticking to 2-4″ and 1-5″ respectively for I-64 areas. Saying latest data is trending heavy snow further north?
I’m lost…must be the same “in house” model they pride themselves on.
Going against the grain.
What’s the track record of their model, c-BIV?
But who’s to say they are wrong? I’ll judge once it is over.
they were wrong the past 2 storms using their in house models….Chris Bailey, and Marc Weinberg were the ones who nailed the past 2.
Both Chris Bailey and Marc Weinberg are seeing a big hit for Louisville and Lexington areas. WLKY and WHAS are not.
We shall see who is correct.
I’m not saying you are wrong. Marc,Chris, and the guys at wave 3 do a great job. I bet Belski hates having to always agree with whatever Cardosi says.
I know you aren’t….
My thoughts exactly on the Belski part. He fits in so much better with the Wave3 way of thinking.
What are you seeing for Lexington?
@Kentuckyweather: Yep… that’s a colder run of the NAM and a bigger winter hit for much of the state. #kywx #WKYTRulesWinter
I-64 corridor you guys are going to get big time snow
As far west as Lexington I hope?
Yes
Sorry to ask but what counties?
Louisville, Shelbyville, Lexington, etc.
I live in northeast Louisville and it’s starting to flurry.
is central KY getting all the ice
No, snow.
Will Huntington get this? I’m just north of 64
Add me to the list of those hoping for an all-snow event. I don’t want any part of the ice / sleet / freezing rain! Hope everyone stays safe.
NAM continues the colder trend but keeps precip a mix early on in Louisville. Once the heavier precip kicks into high gear towards sunrise, dynamic cooling cools the column so snow or a snow / sleet mix should be the precip type for Louisville. Areas just north of that mix line could get crushed with a heavy, wet snow.
It should also be noted that the NAM weakens the low as it moves into KY thus less warm air advection. Still lots of jet dynamics interacting with the stalled frontal boundary to produce copious amounts of precip.
With so many moving parts, there seems to be a high bust potential. Depending on dynamic cooling and a weakening low for copious amounts of snow is tricky business. Not saying that won’t happen, but this is still Louisville and model predictions like this don’t often materialize.
This trend is going to get busted, just like the dome trend did on Monday. 😉
the NAM you are describing has 10-14″ of snow for Louisville, putting the city in the bullseye.
As of now, it looks like I-64 and north are sitting pretty for a double-digit snowfall.
If us here in Lexington get another double digit snowfall… like OMG, snow depth will reach 2ft+ in spots!
Fwiw, the NAM MOS forecast has a high of 38 in Louisville tomorrow. Will that materialize? MOS usually runs warm, but…
And the new NAM snowfall map has 8 inches for Louisville which looks like would be about an 8:1 ratio or a very wet snow. The 10:1 ratio map has Louisville over a foot.
Heavy precipitation is increasing and strengthening west of Louisville, and is moving in. I can see a potential “boom” and snow amounts going 1ft+ in spots, which includes the Louisville metro. Note that CB said “Most models are doing a poor job of picking up on this initial band of sleet and snow moving into central Ky.” I have to go soon, hoping to wake up to an even greater winter wonderland and no ice!
What’s it look like for southern KY toward BG? Significant ice/mostly rain?
Well south east of there..where I am 3″ of very heavy snow on the ground 23° and sleet falling now..in Athens tn..
Its not doing anything in BG right now. Temperature is up to 31 degrees. It looks like the warming that was predicted is happening.
Owensboro is covered in ice…treacherous roads
http://origin-www.crh.noaa.gov/jkl/?n=winter_overview_wsw_snow_ice
Starting to sense a bust here. Snow not moving northward and radar not filling in……
geez….patience. It is going boom southwest in Missouri and Arkansas.
This is going to start really filling in.
i think bust as well
Ummmm no
ok i change my mind thanks CB
🙂
Ppl are so quick to judge
FOLKS don’t see a lot from this tomm, its showing up weaker!!! THANK GOD for that.
Nope…
Where do you see weaker?
If only I could draw a map of every forecast you ever make…..
let’s not….haha
I’ll tell ya the only thing that’s gonna bust is my pants seam. All this snow got me and the old lady just sitting in the house eating all this junk! I hope there is an end in sight my waistline can’t take it. Neither can old lady. She been in sweatpants
since Sunday! I guess I’ll keep waiting on shorter shorts weather!
I like you. A man after my own heart that likes to see his woman in shorty shorts.
Already places in southern ky reporting 1 to 2 inches of snow. Where none of the models or mets have 0 in the way of snow
Anyone know if this will impact the Huntington/Wayne areas? Our local weather people are useless. Ive followed Chris for years and am thankful he still reaches out to those of us still here in WV.
Does it look like Sunday will clear up and all will be well by Monday? I know some kids who are hoping they dont lose their spring breaks. Need to get them back in school!
Low Sunday night is in the teens… back to the 20’s most of the week :/
May I ask if this is looking like snow or ice for Mercer county? Please someone answer . Thank you
I wonder what the biggest temperature swing in KY in a give day is? The Madison County Mesonet show a jump of 57 degrees today… Imagine a 50 to 107 degree day???
The record for the U.S. is in Montana. -49 to 54 in 24 hours.
seeing a BUST on this forcast.. would be a blessing.
Rolocoaster!! Old school 2 a few days ago, then rain, then right inches and now a bust! I hope you are right on the down part of the ride 🙂
Sadly, the main moisture is not even visible yet and arrives early in the morning. Mainly rain or sleet for me please!
eight not right
Already busted. Wasn’t suppose snow in southern ky. Places approaching 2 inches
A bust is if foretasted in the first place… If that is what you mean.
forecasted
Not happening Rolo….hell its just getting its act together 🙂
HUGE heavy wet snowflakes falling…heavy snow near Howe Valley KY…in Hardin county 25 mins west of elizabethtown. Can hardly believe the flakes!
Thanks for all you do CB!!! Going to bed here in Eastern Louisville, near Oldham. Hoping to wake up to another winter wonderland. Need that wet snow to build a gigantic snowman with my daughter. :o)
Thanks for all you do CB!!! Going to bed here in Eastern Louisville, near Oldham. Hoping to wake up to another winter wonderland. Need that wet snow to build a gigantic snowman with my daughter. :o)
Love you cb
CB has already stated the initial wave is not the main moisture. That should come in the early morning hours. Thinking it is a bust with current results and live maps would likely be a false impression.
Though a long shot apparently, still hoping for flame on! This snow is like a relative pined to see for years, they come and stay a while and you realize you want them packing. This is like Cousin Eddie.
LOL…good one.
I love seeing some auto correct mistakes in some of those tweets. Visitation below a mile. Ha!
NWS has upped totals for I-64 including Louisville and Lexington to 5-9″. I’ll take that.
Yay!
Oh so now the nws is awesome 🙂
This storm is giving me a headache. It is fun watching the different media outlets in Louisville spit out different forecasts though. It will be interesting to see who was right when we get to this time tomorrow night. Regardless what we get; we’ll either buried up to a giraffe’s (fill in the blank) in snow, or we’ll have the most radical ice skating rink in America when all of this refreezes tomorrow night.
Hoof
Just started snowing in Corbin!!!
WOW!! Pouring snow in Corbin….right when radar showed it LOL! None of the dreaded Virga 😀
CB just said no changes to his forecast for now, although he noted the colder trends. Sounds like he’s leaning toward maybe pushing the line south or upping totals- that’s my read not his words- but not quite ready to pull the trigger.
CBs arch nemesis is as usual more conservative. That worked out real well with the last event, huh? 😉
Just started snowing in northern Clay County. Very BIG flakes. Please keep this up and no ICE!

Pouring snow in Pine Knot (TN line ) vehicles are covered again .
Current forecasts for Lexington:
NWS: 5-9″
WKYT: 4-10″
WDRB: He says Lex on borderline, so maybe 6″+ or 4-8″
WLKY: 5-10″ (Locally higher)
Post some more for Lexington, I only have this right now.
I find Weinberg to be the best in Louisville as far as snow forecasts, with Belski and Jay C a very close second.
Maybe we need to tweak Groundhog Day rules a bit by adding a third outcome: if it bites the mayor, not only do you have 6 more weeks of winter but you’d better prepare for Hoth-like conditions.
Chris Reece about to be live in Bowling Green if your interested.

Sleet / freezing rain in Louisville.
Getting a butt-kickin’ sleet storm here in Bardstown, some snow mixed in.
The models are all over the place with the thermal profiles in Louisville. NAM says a mix during the night going to snow by sunrise. GFS says snow during the night going to mix by sunrise. RAP says a mix to snow back to a mix back to snow. HRRR says mix to snow. Ugh.
Heavy snow now in Middlesboro. friends in Knoxville say heavy snow as well.
Heavy sleet in eastern Louisville. The radar returns certainly have the look of sleet and freezing rain rather than snow. At least for Louisville, I get the sense from radar returns and history in past events this is going to be a lot more sleet than snow. I think some of the totals given by the local stations are going to be incorrect. Depending on dynamic cooling is a big ask.
Yea – I know what you mean, by the radar you can usually see the returns look really strong, which is usually sleet, not snow. However, there are heavy snow reports showing up…..so I dunno.
Sleeting steadily in Shelbyville.
Temps already in the low 30s in western KY. Still have some real low dewpoints in central and Eastern KY.
Seems sleet could cut totals for a lot of people even in the bigger snow forecast zones and be the low end of the totals. There will probably be totals all over the place, but overall might be lower end totals for most due to sleet mix.
Not long to find out….
Main action doesn’t come until after 5am
Yep and when the warmer border line freezing temps are here. Could be prime temperature conditions for sleet.
Will SE/KY get warm enough to go to all rain during this??? TIA
probably for a period but everything is still up in the air at this point
Thanks, Troy!
27 degrees in Harrodsburg and rain is coming down. 100% rain, no snow, no sleet. This ain’t lookin good !!!
The sleet does have some occasional snow flakes mixing in from time to time but predominately just sleet at least for now. Finding myself in agreement with Israel. Don’t think this is the main show.
Well , NWS has already missed their overnight forecast for Middlesboro (surprise, surprise)….Already more than a new inch of fresh snow has fallen and still coming down.
Just goes to show how incompetent the Jackson NWS is. NWS Morristown is calling for 1-3″ overnight directly across the border in TN…
Ice is falling steadily in Salvisa (Northern Mercer Co.).
Freezing rain in Lexington as the show is just getting started. What a nasty start…
WLKY just moved their 5-10″ line even further away from Louisville. Going north
Only 1-5″ for the area…interesting when the NWS upped their totals to 5-9″.
….if the sleet amounts undercut snow totals they might have the right idea….that’s all I’ve seen so far is sleet.
It’s raining in Winchester at 27°, how is this possible?
That’s what is called Freezing Rain
Warm air aloft. It falls as rain due to warm air above the cold air and freezes once hits a surface.
This evcent seems to have too many moving parts for any met to be accurate at all. We have sleet falling in north Richmond at the moment with some ice rain mixed in. If this is the type of precip with the colder air, wondering if the main stuff that falls later with the warmer air is mainly cold rain?
No harm in dreaming 🙂
Sleet, snow and freezing rain has started in frankfort, doubtful if we get a few inches of snow at this point!!
Ice or cold rain :
It been freezing rain in bowling green but it has stopped for now. My lights have been flickering. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.
I think the term “cold rain” should be flagged for moderation on this forum…
It is a balmy 28 degrees here in south west Lexington. That’s a 46 degree jump from -18 this morning. That would be like waking up with a 30 degree reading, and then hitting 76 later in the day. So it’s already warmer than some thought would be possible with the deep snow pack and the arctic air that was in place. That, combined with the fact that, right now, freezing rain is coming down here in SW Lex. at a fairly quick pace, lead me to believe that this very well might be less of a snow event here than what was hoped for by some. I guess we’ll see as the night goes on.
Mainly freezing rain in north Richmond. Hopefully the temps warm up before the damage is done or it turns over to sleet. Not excepting much snow out of this and more the other stuff.
Wondering if the snow line is too far south…. No doubt the precipitation is coming, but might not be as much snow as expected.
Yeah…I hear you on the precip. There’s going to be a ton of it, but as you indicated, I think the snow line may have been placed a bit too far south, as even people in Georgetown are reporting sleet and freezing rain.
Seems like southern counties are picking up snow and were getting the ice up here in central ky. Not good! Even if it warms up to rain, won’t it freeze when it hits the ground? Just don’t see temps getting warm enough for long enough to have a positive impact. Right now I hope for snow!
Can’t believe how much ice has accumulated in just the last half hour. This could be bad if things don’t change (or maybe I should say things WILL be bad if things don’t change).
Snowing in the Cawood area of Harlan County!
sleet and freezing rain in Corbin….Pouring
SW Lexington @ border of Woodford, radar showing snow but it is freezing rain. Thin coating of ice covering everything.
Glaze on everything in Lexington! Just walked out to check and almost slipped. Went to check the road and a sheet of ice lays on it! Very concerned at the moment! Now we’re getting moderate sleet/freezing rain!
moderate sleet/freezing rain in southern laurel co.
Heavy burst of snow right now, already two inches of new snow on the ground and going towards three.
Sleet/FR hitting the skylights here in the Andover area of east Lexington.
Already sleet, freezing rain, with some snow mix in rockcastle. I’m really hoping the mix stays for a while and the pure freezing rain holds off for a while.
Temps have went above freezing in a couple locations in south western Kentucky according to the Mesonet site
let’s hope temps warm to wash this mess away…….It’s still 31 in Nashville though.
What are the temps in Lexington? It’s 18 in Boyd County.
I’ve got 28 degrees in south west Lex.
Hearing little pellets hitting the windows here near Taylorsville.
The ice has arrived! Here in the Gardenside area of Lexington, everything is coated with a glaze of ice – railings, steps, vehicles, etc. Our son just got home from work and said roads went from fine to awful in no time!! Be careful everyone!! This one is making me very nervous!!
Sorry, forgot to add that we are sitting at 25 degrees, currently.
….sleeting in eastern Jefferson Co…
Sleet in Boone County near the river. Not a good start to the night for snow lovers.
Sleeting outside. Still have a lot of precipitation to get through.
For all the snow lovers out there (myself included), It was fun while it lasted. The big meltdown has begun. Looks like little snow out of this. We are back to that familiar pattern of snow north of the Mighty Ohio River. We are now approaching a 50 degree temp rise in 18 hours. Never under estimate the power of a southwest wind in our area. The northwest wind will always play second fiddle to the southwest wind.
Agree!
UP date Chris, this storm seems to be changing into more freezing rain and sleet in frankfort are, no snow yet.?
Temp. up to 30 degrees now in South West Lex. Hard to believe it was -18 this morning. Still have freezing rain here. Time to hit the sack.
I can’t see getting 5-9 inches of snow out of this unless something changes quick. Most of the heavy precip is staying north of the Ohio. Been on and off light sleet and freezing rain in Louisville.
when is the ice going too get to hart co KY anyone
14 degrees here in Jackson Ohio looks like snow should be starting in the next 30mins
Picked up close to 3″ of snow since about 11:30 . Looking like the GFS was more correct than the NAM for my area.
Not much here in Hartland in Lex – some glaze and longer icicles. No snow accumulation. Sleet wins, sleet wins.
As usual, it’s the dreaded warm nose. From the NWS, “The warm nose surge was greater than anticipated and thus limited our snowfall accumulations, especially up to now along and north of I-64. At the same time, warming temperatures to near or above freezing has and will continue to limit ice accumulations.”
And from Jackson NWS “THE MODELS CONTINUE TO ADVERTISE THE POSSIBILITY OF COOLING OFF THE 850 MB LAYER THIS MORNING…POSSIBLY ALLOWING FOR SOME SLEET OR SNOW…ALTHOUGH GIVEN THE POOR HANDLING OF THE WARM NOSE…HAVE ONLY ENTERTAINED UP TO AN ADDITIONAL INCH OF SNOW OR SLEET ACCUMULATION NORTH OF I-64…WITH LITTLE IF ANY ELSEWHERE.
Water breaks all over Clay County. Have very little water pressure here. Conserving water. We have just a trickle of water from faucet.
