Good Saturday, everyone. Our complicated winter storm continues to roll across Kentucky today with snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain. The thermal profiles are all over the place and that makes things even harder to pinpoint. All I know is this system has a ton of moisture with it, so some hefty totals of each precipitation type will show up.
The storm isn’t a strong one, but it has some potent dynamics swinging across the state early today. Every model known to man is showing dynamic cooling taking place, resulting in a swatch of heavy snows. They all differ on where that takes place, but they all have it. That may even occur after temps rise into the 30s.
It’s been a long week and I pretty much despise this storm for a number of reasons, so I’m going to just let you track it. I will have updates as needed today and via twitter as long as I can stay awake. 🙂

Scott County – rain and freezing rain.
…uncle…
Sounds like Chris can’t get a handle on these even though we’re into nowcasting mode. The models contradict what the eyes are seeing and the ears are hearing and it is very disconcerting.
Is it time to just go with flow and quit trying to guess who gets how much of what stuff when. By the time the models run and tell you what it’s going to do Mother Nature has already changed her mind and moved on. We’re just along for the ride on this one folks. Might as well admit it and give up your biased outcome wishes: It will be what it will be.
agree.
Was snow about 11pm. Not long after was sleet.. then about 30 mins was freezing rain.
Cant wait till this s. w is gone so I can find a outside cat thats not been seen since before mondays 10 half inches. I dont have a good feeling about miss kitty 🙁
I have five cats outside that we take care of. They are all still there. Your cat is probably just hiding somewhere to stay warm.
Our neighborhood tomcat showed up this pm after two nights of , well you know. Fingers crossed.
Hope shes just at someones place on the hill.
Was a stray I saw today first time since storm hit. So theres hope.
Was rain when I was out few mins ago but was probley still freezing rain. With this snow its hard totell
Chrisg has it came home yet? I am sure it will I have a cat too he is our big baby a 20 pound Maine coon
I hope you’re able to find her. I’ve taken care of outside cats in the past, so I know the feeling.
Chrisg, one of my three was gone from Sunday afternoon late until yesterday. I was scared he might have frozen to death but he showed up yesterday afternoon a little skinnier and hungry, Hopefully your outcome will be the same.
33degree rain sucks, blown forecast
I would rather have your 33 degree rain as my 30 degree ice
Still thinking snow is not the main mix type that falls for most, due to the warm air impact, even with the cold pack. Just hoping ice is the least type for us and mainly sleet or cold rain.
Just woke up…decided to take a look outside. Took a walk to the front sidewalk. Everything coated in ice. The road is a skating rink. The trees are making that cracking and popping noise. Neighbor’s pine tree is starting to lean. Anyone know what the criteria is for an ice storm warning. I gotta believe we’re headed in that direction at this point, especially if things stay the way they are.
26 and freezing rain in Olive Hill.
Almost 5 am…have now got a 33 degree reading here in south west Lex., and have switched over to cold rain.
I just got my coffee and decided to look at what we are getting. Rain in Burgin. Ky. mesonet says it is 33 outside.
Warm air advection wins again in the lower OV. Where else can the temperature go from -30 degrees to a rainstorm in 18 hours? It has been a great, memorable week of snow and cold that made the winter a success but this event for KY is saying it’s time to move on to spring.
Thanks to you, Chris. Weather forecasting truly is one of the most difficult professions in the world.
I couldn’t agree more and said basically what you did about 5 hours earlier. Warm air/SW wind always wins in our area. A 50 degree temp rise in under 24 hours and we might go higher. I was hoping for at least some snow out of this but we didn’t even get a flake. Kinda weird to see the snow hanging tough in Middlesboro but already rain and 10 degrees higher in Lexington.
Rain/sleet mix at 32 in Valley Station…
At the airport, snow and sleet initially about 11:30pm, then freezing rain and drizzle for the rest of the night. Slushy roadways for my drive home.
Hats off to the 18z NAM yesterday as their suite for precipitation type had freezing rain by midnight ongoing for areas west of I-75, including Louisville.
Nice Icy morning here in Nicholasville. Not sure about the temp but we have a good coating of ice on everything.
Pandora is not done yet. Frankfort did have freezing rain earlier and now it’s back to snow there. Warm air is fighting north in the upper air therms but colder air is fighting south also. BWG went up to 35; Covington sits at 23. This storm is too dynamic to write anything off; and there’s still several hrs of precip to go. I-64 and north definitely will need to keep an eye out for snow developing in areas where it hasn’t been the dominant precip type.
Thanks, I live in Franfort
Back to rain at 7AM…
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand back to snow at 8AM. Wow, what a crazy system.
I hope Chris can get ahold of the data for this storm, take a look at the surface, mid-level, and upper-level air advection, and then translate that into some type of “layman’s” graphic or description of how this storm played out the way it did.
Aaaaand back to sleet/rain at 8:15AM.
Aaaaaaaand now EXTREMELY heavy snow at 11:20AM. This is insane glad it’s not MY job to forecast it.
Mostly cold rain here and I’m thankful… hopefully this thing is a bust. Lets move on to spring!!!!
u can tell by the post ….CB still is not exactly sure what the storm will do…u know if hes unsure ,its a tough forecast….this is a true nowcast storm if there ever was one
Here in Grayson we have light freezing rain at 31 degrees. As far as I can tell we have had no snow.
Jeesh, I expected snow to be a bit player, but not a no player for most. Hopefully for most the Torch wins out and does not stay below freezing with ice.
The layers have finally been eroded away at my house in NE Louisville (Worthington Hills).
Moderate snow now occuring (with pockets of sleet)
It just took two hours longer than the models showed it happening. 🙂
Hang in there CB. You and the rest of the MET’S are doing great.
BUST
This storm should’ve been named after you Rolo. -30 to 30; snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain, back over to another precip type and all over again. Up down up down up down. lol
Truth
Not out my door, multiple inches of snow on top of a layer of ice. The snow rate is some of the heaviest I’ve seen in awhile.
Heavy snow it Harrison County at the moment.
The center of the low currently sets over Illinois, placing all of ky on the warm side. The models had this thing tracking over ky, but they where not even close with the placement of this storm.
I thought I read from a previous NWS discussion the low was in Texas, not Illinois. O_o
30 and snow in Olive Hill.
HEAVY snow…
Yup, more freezing rain in Lexington. Remember that the ground and road are still below freezing even though its above freezing 5ft from the ground. Some Mets saying we’ll rise to near 40° today, hopefully.
Wow. This sucks. Really was hoping to wake up to a nice snow/sleet storm. Looks like we got a little bit of snow then a bunch of rain. From the looks of the radar it is about over for Louisville.
And they just switched to snow, they say more precip coming.
No snow here in my part of the Ville all rain.
Me too. Iroquois park area had sleet and freezing rain last night but turned to all rain this morning.
Yikes! What a mess, a soupy mess. Had a couple of stuck cars on our street in Lexington.
Looks like we had sleet, then freezing rain, now rain? I missed the snow if we had any earlier?
And the radar, what a hodgepodge. A little circle of rain surrounded by snow stuck on top of Lex. Weird.
Stay safe all!
I’ll take soup over Ice any day
Wow..its warmer in Lexington than it is here in Athens tn..where it is still 25° with heavy sleet and snow ..had 2.5″ of snow last night then freezing rain..and been sleeting most of the morningsince around 3 am
You are further away from the low
Chris: THANK YOU for the best weather info site out there.
And back to sleet and freezing rain in Olive Hill. I give up. Lol
Parts of Madison county are 60 degrees warmer today than yesterday.
Torch!
Was just about to post the same thing.. It is now in the mid 30s here in Perry Co. 60+ degrees warmer than yesterday. Incredible temp rise.
Heavy snow NKY/Cincinnati area beginning to lighten up. I-75 South at Pike Street (just after you get off the Brent Spence Bridge) is closed.
Dry slot moving in shortly. But local mets calling for another round of a wintry mix moving in from the southwest. Most reporting 4-4 1/2 inches so far.
I live in Covington, and we have at least 5 inches of wet snow. The snow plow is nowhere to be seen on our street, and cars are getting stuck.
Plain rain now in Carrie of knott water ponding up on my carport
If it did snow overnight in Berea, and I doubt it did, there’s no evidence of it now. Noticeable icing over cars and pavement. However, I don’t see that same level of ice hanging on trees, power lines, etc. Currently it is straight-up raining.
Anyone who says “bust” on this isn’t paying attention to the number of road closures (including interstates!) across the commonwealth.
The storm is already having a significant impact and that’s what it was said to do.
The “busters” are just trying to get an “I told you so…”
well it is a Bust… before i went to bed, i prayed so hard for a bush.. Prayer does work..hehe
Just because something happens the way you hoped does not prove prayer in the least.
Prove that it didn’t.
Prove that it does.
What you are asking, in reality, is proof that God exists. Proof is all around us. For those that choose not to see what is clearly before their eyes, there is no amount of proof that one could offer to satisfy their cynicism.
Pandora was the perfect name for this storm.
Impressive warm nose here in southeast ky. Looks like we may be dodging the ice bullet. Now the concern shifts to where is all this water going to go today?
Agreed it’s ponding up bad here
heavy snow here in Athens Ohio, temp around 19
Heavy wet snow here in Ashland, started as freezing rain.
Thank you for all your updates. Very much appreciated.
How disappointing…..I was expecting a winter wonderland of snow and got a sleet and cold rain slop.
I am opposite and glad, though my Direct TV is out due to ice on it. Can’t brush that off on a ladder with a broom like snow.
Hoping 35 degrees today is enough to melt it.
Lots of ice hanging on tress and power lines in London. Snow being reported very near. Wish it would switch back over to snow here.
it should be our biggest snow of the year, looks like we got close to 5 inches on top of the 5 we had.Still snowing hard
any reports of lost power?
Thunder snow and huge flasks in the Cawood community of Harlan county. How can it be so different here compared to the northern counties where it’s a mix? I thought we would have rain by now and higher temps
***flakes
What’s your elevation?
My elevation is 1,551. I’m in the valley compared to the Virginia mountain which borders my community.
I’m just outside of Evarts, and we’re getting hit with huge snowflakes as well. I was expecting above-freezing temps / rain by now, too.
33.5 here in Topmost of Knott County. As of now I don’t see much if anything on the power lines thank God. I love snow but I’m ready for spring!
Can everyone state where you are located when you post?
Most of you do, but there are many who post totals or conditions and we have no idea where you are posting from.
Bust and thank goodness. I enjoy having power, telephone and access to work and to the grocery store. Now I’m ready for the spring. Look like the rain is melting the snow Yippie
37 and plain cold rain here in Carrie of knott co. Ice has melted of vehicles in the drive. Getting concerned about ponding water and flood potential.
Snowing now in Nicholasviile.
Cold rain! I know all bout this. Springs coming. And you know what that means? Warmer weather and gettin closer to shorty shorts season! Yeehaw I may have a Budweiser with my breakfast to celebrate.
32 and snowing again in Olive Hill. Ice starting to build up on trees and power lines.
Ice and sleet last night, heavy wet snow this morning in my area of harlan county. When is this storm supposed to end?
Snowing in Lexington.
Seems to be a plain rain here in Floyd County. I wish it had done something else just because of flooding concerns. I myself thought there way no way we could go from such cold … in the air and on the surface … to plain old rain. I could see you were having trouble with this forecast, Chris when you didn’t update much yesterday. I have been following your weather for a very long time, and usually there are updates galore for a winter storm. I have had enough snow and cold anyway and you’re still the best!
Nothing but freezing rain in Webbville. Coating of ice everywhere. 🙁
Nothing but big snow flakes in Covington.
as stated 2 days ago the FLOODING will be bigger story, the winter part is a BUST!!! nobody got much snow at all. 35 rain now in Jackson Co
Freezing Rain and Sleet was not a bust.
not a bust here in Leslie Co…roads are solid ice, 3-6 inches of new in southern part of Leslie County, state highway snow plows are clearing 421
It’s 32 with a freezing rain/rain at my house in Somerset. Getting very windy though as I can hear the wind chimes singing outside. Some ice her but very glad not a lot. Any idea about what this afternoon and evening will bring? Thanks Chris for all you’ve done. Best met anywhere, bar none! Stay safe and warm everyone. Have a great day.
Sleet and 33 degrees currently in Northern Woodford County. We have a thin layer of ice over an inch or two of fresh snow. The pine tree boughs are bending toward the ground with ice. Stay safe, everyone. Thank you, Chris, for all your hard work this week!
Never under estimate the power of the warm nose..It’s force is strong..Booyah
Winter weather dynamics/physcis are fascinating to observe. I agree the warm nose should never be underestimated. We have rain for a while then snow for a while in Ashland. Snowed 1-2 inches so far.
Isn’t there a “second round” so to speak? I haven’t gone back and looked but I thought most of today would be plain rain and then we switch back to snow at some point?
Thank you Chris for all of your hard work!
This forecast was no bust.
Actually I think I spoke too soon. I hear the rain but now I am looking at all the reports from individuals, police agencies and highway departments urging everyone to stay off the roads in Floyd and surrounding counties because they are nothing but a sheet of ice.
How can “I really don’t know.” or “It will some of everything.” be a bust? As far as I could tell CB was clear that he was not sure what would happen.
…will BE some…
oops…
True.
Song of the day..Sam Kinison
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPnrAEK1KnQ
ahhhhhh…..Sam! Miss him so much….one of the few times I HAD to pull off the road for safety because I was laughing so hard it was impossible to drive…Thanks
5 inches on the east side of Cincinnati (mariemont). I’m still trying to make a decision of driving down to Lexington for the UK game. How’s the interstates going down?
36 in my part of Knott County at a pretty good clip.
Roll nailed this one.
Nasty weather out there. If you want soaked feet go step in the snow. About 5 inches of snow with 2 inches of water at the bottom.
Almost 45 degrees now with heavy rain, streams already starting to rise.
not saying who busted, but the weather community as a whole missed it as they should be preaching HEAVY RAIN/FLOOD threat.
Why should they preaching that when there are some still seeing heavy snow and heavy icing right now? We got A LOT of concerns right now, flooding isn’t the only and the not the most important just yet.
This is unreal! Still pouring the snow at the Cawood area of Harlan County. I shoveled my garage pad yesterday clear. Went out and measures and there’s eight inches of new snow. This may seem hard to believe, but it’s snowed hard nonstop! I’m not even on the mountain such as pine or Virginia, I’m at the base of Virginia!
Your neighbors over here in Lee County VA are seeing the same thing. My car is not far from being buried. Coming down at a ridiculous rate. Trees are starting to weigh down heavy and that concerns me for when/if it changes to ice. All this snow melting later is going to leave a lot of water behind. Problems just lining up.
Yes, I’m praying for it not to change cause it’ll be a mess! You in Lee county?
Yes, in Pennington.
Snow in Floyd Co, IN
Good day to snuggle up and watch the Cats..Honey i’m home..
http://i.imgur.com/a9EZ4JW.gif
Uh … not so fast everyone .
Heavy precip has moved back in to Louisville and on the NE side of the city, snow is winning out against the warn layer.
When it let’s up, sleet mixes in. When it picks back up, it’s all snow!
Let this system move completely out before calling a bust. 😉
But it’s super frustrating not knowing what to expect next.
it’s been bouncing back and forth…sleet, then, snow, then freezing rain, then rain, then big fat snow flakes, then all of the above at once.
I’m exhausted!
More flavors of precip to this storm than Baskin-Robbins has ice cream
In Louisville near the Shelby and Oldham county lines. We have had switch back and forth from sleet to heavy snow all morning. Along with a layer of ice underneath that. Seems to have let up some for now. Temps here rose a little through the night, but sitting right at 32-33 now in the Eastwood area of Louisville.
Up to 34 degrees in Millville area with heavy “sneet” falling! 🙂
Same thing in Lawrenceburg!
Hubby just slid out of the drive & into a ditch. He thought that truck could & would go anywhere. What a mess out there! Snow for a while, then rain. Temp here is 34 sloppy, messy, nasty, yucky degrees. Yes, it’s messy, but still slick…..take care out there.
It had been snowing for the last hour or so in the Lyndon area of Louisville, but it has quickly turned to rain now. My guess is it will switch back and forth with the intensity of the precipitation. The heavier amounts will bring down cold air and produce snow. The lighter amounts will produce rain.
The storm has been a real disappointment, but it just proves warm air aloft always wins out in the area. It was always a very close call for the I-64 corridor and depending on dynamic cooling to overcome WAA and produce snow is always tricky. The only time I really remember I happening was January 1994.
I think last night’s radar returns really signaled this was on the way. The returns were just too high in intensity to be snow. They were the sign of sleet and then the warm air won out even more and we got freezing rain.
Just as I finished writing this, the intensity picked up and snow has begun to fall again. Back and forth.
Warm tongue is killing us in eastern Ky….Take a look..
http://r.ddmcdn.com/s_f/o_1/cx_0/cy_16/cw_625/ch_416/w_625/APL/uploads/2014/06/dogs-tongues-11-625×450.jpg
It looks like pineville picked up about 3 inches of new snow, it has switched over to heavy sleet and making a mess. No rain, all frozen precipatation. Thankful its not sticking to trees and powerlines! This storm is strange that the further north people have 40 degrees and rain and in southern and eastern portions its snow and frozen precip. Can anyone explain?
The storm tracked further west, placing the warmer air further west. The closer you are to the center of the low the warmer the air, therefore eastern ky has not had the warm air invade like most of ky.
thanks for the information, will it eventually switch over to rain and clean up the mess?
Snow in Floyd Co, IN. still.
The GFS from last night nailed this storm for the Middlesboro area. Nearly 7″ of snow and sleet has fallen since 11:30 last night…that’s 6″ more than NWS predicted.
good to hear! 🙂
Lots of HUGE snow flakes mixing in with the rain here in Lawrenceburg now. The most heavy wet snow I’ve ever seen!
And now that I say that, rain is mixing in more now. This is changing every minute!!!
Went to bed expecting to wake up to 4-10″ of new snow.
Woke up to 4-10″ of disappointment…
So goes winter in KY, but hey, we got our double digit storm, so all is ok!
NW Lexington
Heavy wet snow in my area of Lexington right now. Our temp keeps going back and forth from 33 to 32. Forecasting this one was definitely difficult, but I think all the meteorologists got one thing right… it’s a mess out there!!
Heavy snow in Georgetown
We’ve gone from rain over to heavy sleet with snow trying to mix in at times.
Now we’re getting mostly just heavy snow.
In Grayson it has snowed iced sleet rained back to ice back to snow back to sleet to snow, it is just plain nasty out here
So all the green showing up on radar isn’t just all rain?
correct
It is a very messy day here. Still having all snow at times, but freezing rain, sleet, and just rain mix in and they take turns switching back and forth. A crazy weather day here in Ky. Temps right around 34 here in northern Clay co.
Now that we can stick a fork in this winter threat for most of the area some interesting observations on this storm. Models from 4-5 days ago was showing more rain than snow which proved to be correct. Even with (in some cases) the historic cold entrenched in our area 24 hours before the storm a relatively weak low pressure with WAA was able to easily move this cold dense air in a very short period. Another observation…if you get a south or southeast wind always go above guidance temps from models as they do not pick up very well air that warms when they downslope into a valley…impacts some here more than others. Looks like one more snow chance at the end of the week and then the pattern relaxes some…still colder than average.
We got some big ol huge flakes in jessamine county. Coming down pretty good.
Pouring snow in Nicholasville!
the cold air is actually winning here…was supposed to be 30 degrees by 11-12 oclock …its only 22 been snowing since around 5 am relentlessly ….between 9-10″ already ….good thing I cleaned the hood of my truck last night so I could measure 🙂
Where are you located?
Beckley WV
big flakes NW Lex McConnell’s Trace area……It still looks terrible outside…….I think this stuff will be around for another week..
AND…… I have a question
When you guys come to this site, do some of the cams not load? It seems to always be several cams load, and several don’t. I’m just wondering if anyone else experiences that? Thanks
My cams all load.
I get hit and miss with the cams too. Occasionally I’ll get them all.
I also have 25% miss, usually most show.
I don’t think this forecast is a bust…….Who can expect ANYONE to forecast this crazy storm? It’s pouring snow here at the moment..
I agree Mark…just the smallest variation in the warm layer and it is a pile of heavy wet snow.
The atmosphere has really battled with this system. The warm won in many areas, but, not in all.
Congrats to those getting snow. I love a refreshing 32 degree rain said no one ever!
There is no “congrats” for stuff like this.
The radar shows rain for our area but we still have a mix of snow and sleet falling. Temp has held steady at 34 since about 9 am.
Middlesboro mayor telling ppl to avoid the area 6-10″ of snow there and still snowing..
Ditches over running in knott co from rain and melt. Told yall we’d need a boat on carrie
I know I’m jumping the gun a bit here, but are the models still hinting at a system for next weekend?
Too soon, Jon.
Too soon.
🙂
This… Lol
Snowing heavy in Frankfort
Still in awe. Snow isn’t stopping! Measured almost a foot at an elevation of 1,500 feet in the Cawood area of Harlan County. Numerous reports of roofs collapsing and metal car ports! This is some epic stuff. No one saw it coming I dont imagine. Judge executive discourages travel. Very memorable day!
Local dollar general store and has station roofs collapsed. Snow transitioning to a mix now.
Wow, that’s incredible. Hope you folks stay safe. Just measured 8.5″ (new snow) here in the boro with rain on the way. This is gonna be a mess when melting starts.
At least the breadmakers are happy…
Not Great Harvest. 🙁
National Guard being deployed in far southeastern Kentucky.
Not much frozen precip in west Loumetro. Rain with a little snow splatter occasionally. No snow since before daybreak and mostly sleet. I saw reports of heavy snow in Floyds Knobs which just across the river from me. Would like a fresh coat. Meh.
My goodness what a mess. Everything from significant ice to flooding rain to crushing heavy snow. It seems most of this heavy snow is down in between pine and black mtn. I’m in Perry co. And it’s been plain rain all day long.. Creeks are going up.
Heavy sleet and snow mix in London over the past 20 minutes.
Rain was pretty hard here early this morning. Some ice on the vehicles and pretty slick. Just a few minutes ago it transitioned back to snow, big flakes. I am in Morgan County and it is colder than the mesonet at my place as well.
Wondering how this plays out the rest of the way. Roads are in no shape and forecasts are saying 30 tonight. With the snow maybe a little colder who knows. But that could well make the roads solid ice and a bunch of it. My area is forecast for 32 for the high tomorrow as per NWS Jackson. With 9 for the low.
And it seems we have some below freezing highs for the next few days anyway. Travel could be near impossible for some through middle of the week at least.
Praying everyone stays safe. And appreciate the time and effort you put in Chris.
Been nothing but rain since at least 7 AM in Berea. Light icing that happened overnight is gone, just water.
Sorry to hear about everyone getting hammered with snow that was *just* expecting mostly ice.
What the heck is going on in middlesboro? We have a nasty mix of everything 30 miles away and they are southeast of us and getting hammered with snow. They were on the low end of the last system so good for them I guess.
I’m personally fine with missing out on ten inches of heavy wet snow. Too many issues with that stuff. I’ve got my snow fix and am ready for a warm up.
WSW for rain and nearing 2 inches of rain at that makes no sense.
Has anyone looked ahead to the severe weather season ( spring ) ? Is it going to be bad ?
My dad said its pouring the snow in greenup…4 inches so far
It’s been pouring the rain here, but switches to heavy sleet on and off!!
At what point do the temps start to go down? Just wondering, because I know this relative warm-up isn’t supposed to last long.
I live in Morgan County and they have dropped here at my place. My mother-in-law said they had dropped their as well. 32 degrees and seeing snow instead of rain.
Temps will begin to fall after midnight tonight.
Nothing but heavy rain all day near Charleston WV. Some ice very early. Rain dominating here as usual.
Come on down here jimbo….well over a foot of snow …still pouring ..only 25 degrees
Flood warnings starting to pop up
Others have mentioned the issues the new snow is causing in Harlan County; I have nothing to add to that, except I’ve had my fill of winter this week. Ready for spring now! Hope everyone stays safe, no matter what’s going on outside.
A whole lot of spring showing up in the mid range, hang in there folks it is almost over. Less than 2 weeks from now could be in the 60s. I can already smell the grill.
I see a whole lot of winter showing up, and so do other Mets. I don’t know what you’re talking about.
This 🙁
If your grill stops working at 59 degrees, you may want to get it repaired.
You know what tom meant 😉
Its mostly just a cold rain here in Belfry/Pikeville area, at least at my house it is. Sleet and snow mixing in at times but this is one of the few times I will gladly take the cold rain.
I think we were lucky that it trended warmer more north. A big heavy snow on top of what we have would have cut power, collapsed roofs, and got people stuck where they are- just to name a few. Factor in freezing temps all the way until another weak (at least) away and does not seem too fun fro most folks at least.
CB rocks, but I am glad he and the other mets underestimated the warm air that was backed by the usual model wackiness. As a bonus, the warm air melted the ice off my DirecTV (I can’t reach it to clean ice), so can watch the Cats tonight without leaving the house. Now THAT’s winning 🙂
Need to cut the mets and even the models slack with this one, since was uncharted territory that I can recall.
Ur right …the uncharted territory is the snowpack …it’s rare
*Like. Give them grace.
Warm air is always the safe bet in my neck of the woods. Really think atleast a flood advisory should be issued in knott co though
week, for. meh
Bubba, did your son in Bowling Green lose power last night? I suspect WKU was ok, but my in-laws on south end of town had no power for a few hours along with a few other thousand customers 🙁 .
The wife and I in Nashville kept our power and we are now in the 40s, although our driveway is still a wet skating rink. Using a crowbar to break up the ice before temps plunge again.
He did not mention power out.
Radar is showing rain in Corbin in Whitley County, BUT it’s pouring the sleet!!!
I am LOST. This weather is crazy and is not doing what everyone from the local Mets to NWS says. Since this morning, we have transitioned from freezing rain/sleet to snow back to rain, and just when I thought since it had warmed up the rain was going to be prominent, it has changed back and forth in the past hour from rain to freezing rain to sleet. And the wind is gusting pretty good occasionally. I think NO ONE on earth knows what this system is doing. Wouldn’t be surprised if I heard thunder next.
Laurel county started as a lil snow went to sleet then changed to freezing rain then to rain. Now it’s pouring the sleet again this weather is crazy!
DYNAMICAL COOLING taking place as a heavy snow starts to fall in Jackson, Clay Co!!!
I still hot rain rolo northern clay co around the carpet barn
Warm nose pushing all the way north into Ohio. 37 in
Lex with rain and street flooding. Not sure any computer model could ever accurately forecast this but I certainly would have preferred th 4 to 10 inch snow CB predicted for Lex over this mess. I just want it gone now.
I feel the same way. Since we barely got an inch worth of ice/sleet/snow, and now rain and almost 40°, I just want the rain to wash everything away and bask in 60° sunny weather.
2 inches of slush on the road. Scraped down and there is a decent sheet of ice underneath. Very slick and when this freezes we will have solid ice on the road. The snow on the side and the snow/sleet that is falling is just building up more. Needed some warmer air for longer. Snow is really heavy and wet now and is packing down hard. For sure a nasty mess.
Snowing again in Clay County. I wish it just would stay SNOW!!!!
Any updates from cb today for moving forward?
not looking promising…lol
Hang in there a couple more weeks and it has to get better. Average highs start going up rapidly when we get into March. May stay below average, but if below average=50+ i’m fine with that.
Just trying to dig out here in Cawood, at Harlan County, Ky. Porch roof collapsed last night and snow is still half way to the top of my car. We received 6 to 8″ the first round and 10 to 12″ more the second round. It’s a winter wonderland here. Still can’t dig out of the driveway it’s a mess of deep slush, ice and snow that you can barely stand up in. I guess we’re lucky though, others in the county got much worse. Store roofs collapsed, gas stations, and other businesses. Carports, roofs, ect., thankful for my fireplace! I would’n trade wood and coal heat for any other when it’s this cold! The heat pump just can’t keep up with all the cold temps. Hope to be able to shovel out tomorrow to get to work, although two of the Dollar stores I work in have collapsed roofs and will be closed for a while. Thanking God for his mercy!
