Good evening on this Labor Day. What an incredible holiday weekend of weather we are wrapping up across the state. We started it out with highs hitting 100 in many areas and we are ending it with flooding rains for some, temps in the 60s with gusty northerly winds of 30mph. We told you the weekend would be extreme.
What is left of Tropical Storm Lee continues to push into southern and eastern Kentucky and this will increase the flash flood threat overnight into Tuesday. Minor flooding is already being reported across far SE Ky where nearly 3″ of rain has fallen since this morning. An additional 2″-4″ of rain will be possible tonight and Tuesday across the southeast with amounts lessening the farther west and northwest you get.
A few thoughts…
– The low from Lee will wonder in here Tuesday into Wednesday before stalling out. This will throw showers farther back toward the west during this time. A bit of instability argues for afternoon thunderstorms to develop.
– I have seen setups such as this produce narrow ribbons of torrential rains and that is something to watch for later this week… likely farther to the west.
– Scattered showers and isolated storms should hang around into the coming weekend.
– Temps will be running well below normal this week into the weekend. Highs for some will have a tough time getting out of the 60s… especially the next few days.
Here are the tracking tools to follow the heavy rains…

We’ve had 2.9″ of rain in the last 24 hours at my house in Jessamine County. The thermometer has been stuck at 58 to 59 degrees all day long. Sure ruined our invitation to a pool party and cook-out for this afternoon.
good evening from the town of wayne, wva. it is right at the top of the hour at 7pm with light rain falling as it has been for most of the day. the temp is holding steady at 63 as it has been most of the day. it has been going anywhere from 61 to 63 most of the day. we have had .25 inches of rain today since about 9am this morning. this brings our total to 1.75 inches since it all began on sunday at 4:30pm with a severe thunder storm. i am curious to see how much more rain that tropical storm lee brings to the region over night and during the day on tuesday as his moisture surges northward from the south. what a difference a couple of days make in the weather dept., we go from the hottest day of the summer at close to 100 degrees to the coolest day of the summer just 48 hours later where the high temp can not get out of the low 60s. about a 35 degree temp. swing. thank you for your time and may god bless you and your family.
i have caught a inch and 3/4 of rain in a cat litter bucket so far. I put the bucket outside last night around midnight, and i just now went outside and checked it with a tape measure. i got a reading of inch and 3/4 inch high.
And just when drought (ish) conditions were starting to develop……THIS is exactly what we needed : D
I’m thinking Lexington has had over two inches of rain (so far).
Too bad it’s not in Texas. Even in our WORST droughts here in the past, I don’t think even those could compare to their current one.
I would love to hear what is the worst drough that Lexington and Kentucky have been through and all the details.

1999 is the worst that I can remember, when there were water supply shortages. I am sure somebody can come up with a worse year than that.
