Good Monday everyone and happy Labor Day. A cold front continues to swing across the state today with showers and thunderstorms continuing. This front will team up with what is left from Tropical Storm Lee to bring more torrential rains to the eastern half of the state over the next few days. This will lead to a potentially dangerous situation with an increased risk for flooding.
Parts of central and eastern Kentucky picked up better than 3″ of rain on Sunday and this caused some minor flooding problems. This basically primed the ground for the heavy rains coming in from Lee’s leftovers. The combination of these two can cause some serious issues through Tuesday. Here is a look at the risk area…
Here is a breakdown…
– Showers and some rumbles of thunder will continue through much of this morning across the central and east. Conditions will dry out from west to east later today. The SE part of the state will likely stay in the showers. Highs will range from the upper 60s east to mid 70s west.
– Rain will quickly increase this evening into tonight from southwest to northeast. A sharp cutoff will be noted somewhere across central Kentucky. This rain will be VERY heavy in the east as it continues into Tuesday.
– Additional rainfall through Tuesday can reach the 3″-6″ range in parts of eastern and southeastern Kentucky with lessening amounts the farther west you live.
– The low becomes cutoff across the region from Wednesday into the coming weekend with a daily threat for showers and some thunderstorms. This will include the entire state as the low drifts a bit westward in time.
– If you live in a flood prone area of eastern Kentucky… please stay up to date on how this all plays out.
Here are your radar tracking toys…

Sure don’t want to see the flooding but glad to see some rain.
Stay safe if the water rises or covers the roadways!!!
Very concerned with the amount of moisture moving into east KY. Potential for flooding is possible.
The cold front did little in the way of rain for the Louisville Metro especially my house. Maybe a trace. Now Lee is going to hit the eastern side of the state. I wish you folks well regarding the flooding situation.
good morning from the town of wayne. it is 9:45am under a very rainy sky with a temp in the very cool low 60s, i say cool, compared to what it has been it is cool, especially with the rain falling. so far 1.50 inches of rain since sunday at 4:30 pm when it all began. what a way to unofficially to end a summer, esoecially a summer that was as hot and at times dry as this summer was. by the way the satellite picks and the radar pics look, lee is making a bee line for the eastern ky and western wva area and with all the oragraphical lifting that there is, that spells trouble. that is all this go around, thank you for your time and may god bless you and your family.
I prefer Saturday’s weather to this…
Wow! I love this 58f at my house right over the KY River. I am hoping that Central KY will end up seeing more rain from Lee.

good afternoon from the town of wayne, wva. it is 12:30pm as of this writing. the sky is full of light rain with the temp holding steady in the low 60s. the temp has been any where from 62 to 63 all morning. looking more likely that the remnants of lee is going to cause a lot of flooding for eastern ky. and western wva. and western va, not to mention the appalachian spine. amounts of 6 plus inches are very likely from tonight through early wednesday. so far in my rain gauge around 1.75 inches has fallen, mainly from the cold front, lee will start affecting the area later today through wednesday with very heavy rain still to come. as always, thanks for your time, stay safe, may the lord bless you and your family.
folks in SE EAST get pepared cause it going get funky like a mokey as the moderate to heavy rain just know starting and u can see it training and there a long way of it threu alabama. i see some evacuations in areas by tomm and even deaths if people dont watch out.
Haha what’s a mokey?
has anyone seen the hpc rainfall maps showing over 9” of rain in some places? thats incredible, esp at a time of year when we usually get drier in the eastern us, its odd also looking at the drought index that parts of south central ky are in a drought after a momentous spring rainfall totals.
yea me too, i am not crazy about triple digit heat but nothing is worse than overcast cool and drizzle, now wonder the irish drink so much :D…i am irish so i can make that joke right?!
Southern Laurel Co. has had a little over 2.5 inches of rain since last night.
We are measuring a little over five inches here in Middlesboro since it started yesterday.
