Good Thursday, everyone. It’s another history breaking winter storm across the bluegrass state. A large swath of 12″ + snow is showing up and there is the potential for some areas to push 20″. That is absolutely astounding!! Record cold weather will be with us Friday morning with readings going well below zero.

Awesome Job CB…thanks for everything you do.
I’m sorry I ever doubted you NAM. You were right. I thought with those ridiculous totals you kept spitting out there was no way. You got me this time.
I am loving this snow! Been out playing in it. Now it’s time to take a nap……can’t wait to see how much snow there is out there when I wake up!
Right now in South Woodford County I measured 8 1/4 inches.
Epic storm going on, 12’inches already in frankfort and the radar looks loaded for much more WOW!
It is amazing! What a storm!
You are the only weather I watch! Thank you for the awesome job you do!!!! We easily have 6 + inches in Ashland, KY with snow still falling like the rain earlier!!!
NWS in Charleston actually upped our totals to 10 to 14! When has that ever happened?
It looks like the Euro was mostly correct from 3 or so days out on the crazy high totals along the WKU PKWY area. Thanks for all the hard work CB. Your ability to sniff these storms out and nail it time and again is astounding! About 3″ of snow here in Bowling Green after 5 hours of sleet and a little freezing rain. I expect many more before daybreak.
Just measured 15″ in Madisonville and it’s still coming down hard.
Just took the dog out here in Georgetown. 460 & I-75, easily 15inches. Hard to measure with the drifts. Be safe. Keep an eye on your roof.
Up late watching it snowing cats and dogs! This is just insanity here in Lex! The wind is picking up too.
We are having wind gusts now in northwest Lex and at times it looks like a white-out. POURING snow. And looking at the radar is just amazing. You think you see the end in Louisville, then it fills back in ……Crazy. I’m so glad I’m getting to experience this…
I have always wanted my kids to experience the snow I use to get in Maryland. This is just awesome to see this in Kentucky. Just sitting by the fireplace watching it just pour down…….
Radar for Accuweather flickering in/out a bit over eastern KY (the one Chris uses here) think this is feedback problems. If necessary, use other radars to verify actual precip.
That’s what was thought earlier but it was dry slots verified by Chris
Well I was just specifically mentioning one frame (2:15 am,) you see how it “blinks” and then comes back. Some of these dry areas are dry slots but others are false due to feedback issues.
gotcha my mistake
Go away snow!! I’m ready for spring!!
hello from Littleton, Colorado, glad to see the snow dome finally getting justice. we got 4” last night pushing our seasonal total to 65”. our snowiest average months are march and april.
Almost a foot here in Greenup and still coming down
My reverse psychology worked….called for 2-4….and bam 10 easily at my house in the Ville. Going to be a long Thursday. Been out since 8 and going back at it at 530. Crazy fun. Hope everyone has enjoyed this old skool thumper. Hope all are safe.
Chris Baily you nailed this one. You are the man. Thanks for all you do.
Here reverse psychology did not work. I guessed 1-3 inches of rain with 1 inch of frozen so far 3.75 of rain and 0 frozen.
Same here….I am up to 3/4 inch of Snow…lol.
I guess we all can’t win. The dry slot was epic.
Looks like I may get 3-4 inches unless I get
Another dry slot.
Reports of power outages in greenup
Wave 3 in Louisville saying some areas will approach two feet.
Not out of the question.
i could see 16-20 inches by the time this ends in Lexington.
Still snowing in Louisville
Look at the radar. It looks almost the same as it did hours ago. Wild!
Still snowing just north of Louisville across Ohio too. Has not stopped.
how much snow will fall for central KY any body
Ok the trolling is getting old.
A little over 11.5 inches in Masterson Station!
11″ in NE LOU (Worthington Hills)…still snowing!
Chris tweeted last night that this was going to be a shut the state down snow. He nailed it. Except for Andy Rose he is building an ark.
Already built buddy 😉
He did say that but Chris himself never expected this much snow. No one did. Some places 20” or more.
I wouldn’t go that far …. he might have nailed it for your area but basically a bust in ours …. ol rolo nailed this one for se ky
how much snow for central KY any body
I think 16″-24″ possible. @kentuckyweather tweets back up that possibility for central ky including lexington
Absolutelt not even a flake of snow here in Pike County. I am heart broken. Besides the fact I wanted snow we could have used the turn over here with all the flooding. But it looks like endless rain is all we are getting. Waaah.
Wake up Carla and look outside! SNOW and FLOOD combination
*Absolutely
Took a nap expecting to wake up to quiet a bit of snow but so far just a layer of sleet.Looking at the radar it seems we were in a dry slot for a long while. It is snowing now.I suspect we still have plenty of time to get a whole lot of snow.Just incredible reading some of these amounts that has already fallen with a lot more to come.
As is said -Careful what we wish for-
This is going to be really bad for a lot of people.Hoping our totals stay low.
I would say in less than an hour, you need to save some radar images. More than likely snow will be falling on every single square in of the Big Blue Nation!
Looks like Arkansas is totally covered also.Tennessee will likely be covered soon. The US radar looks incredible. This is still all the way back into Texas.
17 inches of snow in Radcliff 13 inches of snow SW part of Jefferson County in Louisville
Have you been outside? It’s pouring the snow in Louisville.
Oh yeah Ive made it outside my Shih-Tzu has to jump through the snow just to navigate my Rottweiler just drudges through it as best as possible. I have seen anything like this since 1994. My ruler is absolutely useless dont have a yardstick im guessing 14 inches where im at another what 4 maybe 5 inches to go?? Does it matter now??? lol
Jeremy Kappell WDRB @JeremyKappell 23 minutes ago
Updated HRRR (Hi-Res wx model) says snow won’t quit until 10 am for metro Louisville and points to the south. #KYwx
This reminds me of 1998 Feb all over again!
This event is actually probably more significant due to the colder air and wider impact area.
If this was all snow from the start it would of been 35-40 inches??
Now don’t go being all greedy. Lol
Have been in the dry socket, but a nasty .25 to .50 layer of ice over everything. Now the snow starts. I really feel for anyone trying to get out tomorrow. I don’t really know how much we will get, it depends on whether the system stays slow.
Timbo
Still pouring in Greenup…wow
We have a coating of sleet in Harlan coming down hard now. I wonder if they will up totals for seky?
Feast or famine I suppose. Not saying I want 20 inches here in Wayne County but was hoping for more than 1-3, incredible how there could be over a foot difference, maybe even close to a 2 foot difference from one end of the state to the other.
the rain lasted a whole longer than expected in London …. snowing really good right now …. this storm is huge, so we should pick up an 6in before it’s outta here. roads are already horrible … road crews couldn’t pretreat and have not seen any sign of them so far.
Looks like it’s trying to wind up for Frankfort?
Looking at the radar seems to be quiet a bit more still to come.
Yes I think snow until 9:30 or 10AM for Frankfort at least
Kanawha Valley snow dome held strong on this storm. While most measure with a yardstick…the nws says charleston will end up with 4-6 inches. Don’t know what else to say…..you have to go back to 1996 to find a storm to drop 10+ inches and this one wont come close.
I feel your pain. I am about 25 miles west of Charleston. Thought I would awaken to at least 10 inches, more like 4. So far disappointing again. There is still time but unless it really snows hard it will be tough to over come the March sun even if it stays cloudy.
11″ and pouring in central WV.
Measured 12” in Mason, WV and still snowing.
Ashland pouring the snow good 8 to 10 inches so far and a lot more to come.
Also had very little sleet just went from rain to snow about 730 pm last night
I’m across the river from you, in Ohio. I could not believe how fast our transition was! Very little sleet. Snow is beautiful this morning.
Sleeting here in Knott County Most I have ever seen on the ground before.
Nine inches so far in Russell, Greenup County.
I
Had 12 up here on my ridge in Greenup…that was a few hours ago
Good snowy morning ! I have not been out yet but WOW. Looks like maybe 12 maybe 14 inches so far. I will get out and measure when it gets light out. Burgin
.4 of sleet and snow mix light mix falling now temp 27 in Carrie of knott
Was figuring on waking up to an inch so it was less then even I thought
we’ve got maybe a little over an inch in London … but it is snowing pretty hard right now – not sure what our total will end up being. good ole Rolo …. way to end winter with a forecasted bust 🙂
Snow flakes just started falling here in Carrie finally over took the sleet
Old school snowstorm. Rolo agree?
right at 12″ in NE Louisville (Worthington Hills)
what a storm!
I know it’s still snowing, but I’m thinking northwest Lex has gotten more than south Lex (at least as of now), there has got to be a foot of snow here. Sort of the opposite of the last storm where south got more than north. It’s just nothing but a snow globe outside. No traffic, roads covered. It will be interesting to see what the official total is at KLEX when it’s all said and done. I know watching TWC live shot just a minute ago at Triangle Park, she measured 8 inches but it was still pouring snow.
The last snow report for KLEX was 14.6 with 12 on the ground.
2.5″ since 7 PM last night in Berea. Still snowing though, which is disappointing.
Car covered in ice from the unforcast freezing rain underneath the snow. I never saw sleet at all in the neighborhood. Outside videocam from overnight shows no sleet, just rain to freezing rain to snow.
#notamajorfloodingevent
Hey same here in Knox. My car was encased in ice this morning. Had to ride in with a co-worker’s husband.
I tossed a tarp on my truck last night so it wasn’t to frozen in my part of the county and even the wife’s car wasn’t real bad
15″ in Georgetown and still coming down hard.
Snow in Louisville still and southern Indiana.
My wife thinks I’m insane. I just stare out the window like Patton surveying the battlefield, saying “I love it. God help me, I do love it so.”
😀
Love it!
haha nice!
yes I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just over 13 inches in Jackson ohio
Just incredible. We’ll be talking about 2015 for decades. Two separate Crushing snow storms. -30 temps, terrible flooding.. I’m in awe.
Official lexington total is 14.6 as of 7 am. That brings our seasonal total to 37.5 the sixth slowest winter on record. Number 2 is 1978 with 42.1 inches.
Where do you look up official numbers?
Just woke up to well over a foot. I saw a report around 4 AM of 16″ from Shelbyville. I will measure once it all quits, but wow, this will certainly be a storm to remember.
Beautiful now but with the warm up coming, flooding a real concern.
Yesterday AM, WSAZ was calling for 2 – 4 inches for Huntington, WV. Last night, they had upped it to 4 – 8 inches. It’s funny, this morning they have now put us in a 8 – 14 inch area. Hmm, I seem to remember someone else having us in the swath but a day or two ago. 🙂 Thanks for all your hard work Chris. We really appreciate all you do for us and for giving us a reliable place to come for all our weather needs.
I remember the same thing. Just like the other locals and the NWS. They wait till it starts, then go from there.
It’s dangerous is what it is. I just pulled a certain “First Call for Snowfall Map” from WSAZ yesterday. Has me in the 2-4 range. Im now past 10 inches. I hope all the elderly and others who needed supplies were able to get what they needed despite thinking they may be able to get out today.
Aw heck that is a lot of snow. I reckon I’ll wake up the old lady to shovel.
What?? Man up! Making the “old lady” shove? Wake her up to make you a hot breakfast and coffee so you can shovel. LOL
Make her do it in shortly shorts.
It started sleeting here in Clay county around 3:00 this morning. By 4 everything was covered with a layer of sleet. Snowing heavy snow now. Hopefully will start piling up. We might have 1.5 to 2 inches of snow. Has really been coming down since about 7 this morning. Thanks Chris and enjoy some much needed rest again.
Harlan 0″ of snow hahaha crushed lol really I’m glad I’ve had plenty of snow this year.
there is at least 15″ on the ground here in Harrodsburg and no sign of letting up. JUST DESPICABLE !!! LOL I’m ready for shorts and flip flops !!
Snow still in Louisville at Ohio River.
14 to 15 inches in east frankfort, hard to measure with the wind though, still snowing but wow what a march storm.
I still haven’t seen any real heavy bands of snow over my area of Putnam WV. Just steady to light snow. Still time to pick up I guess.
What are you measuring there? I’m across the river from Huntington, in Proctorville and we are at about ten inches.
I’m in SW Lex., and I have awoken to at least 14 inches of snow in my backyard. I found the flattest spot to measure, the ruler was buried by at least two inches. Still coming.
London here about 1.5 sleet cleaned driveway off snowing hard 2 inches in 1 hour I think we will get more then forecast
We need the Goat Busters to help shovel!
We are nearing 10″ in north Richmond with heavy snow still coming down. We might hit a foot. This event is actually bigger than two weeks ago due to the heavier snow and wider path.
I must admit expecting the SE to get more than they have. The emphasis was a little more north as far as the main action.
It took a while to snow in northern rockcastle, but we have about 5 inches, so we may see 7 or 8 maybe more if we can get the upslope to kick in
Getting a burst of snow near Taylorsville. Reports of 15 inches here in Elk Creek.
Back end of the snow field seems to be stalling out a bit…could up totals for Central Kentucky… 🙂
Starting to taper off in the Ville. National Guard being called out to I-65 south near Elizabethtown due to extremely rough conditions.
18 ” in E’town and still snowing
Bourbon county. Measured several level areas 14 to 15 inches with drift areas being 20 inches plus. Snow day for my 8th grader glad she is seeing what we used to get around here in the late 70s and early 80s.
Here in Powell County we’re not going to receive anywhere near 20 inches. Heck, we won’t even get close to 12. Looks like 4 or 5 will be the max, today.
a positive note for SE KY folks … after tomorrow, 50s and 60s all next week ….. I think we can put old man winter on a one way bus outta here !!
Amen, those temps cant come fast enough!!!
Every time I look at that radar, I think I see the end in Louisville to Lex, and then it just stays there…….!!
It’s really just amazing outside
The extreme #’s from the NAM and EURO were so right, but a little farther north that expected, but it’s not over for areas to the south….or for us yet.
37.5 inches seasonal total and counting. And to think that’s only a few inches away from the 1978 seasonal total……Good God. And this all in 3 weeks for the most part! I , I, I can’t even……
Couple of inches of snow on top of the ice here on state line. Light snow at the moment.
21 inches in Beaver Dam Ky and still snowing! Never seen this in my lifetime..wow…just wow
Got a lil over an inch here in knott co we may squeeze a 2-3 inches out of this
13.5 inches in my backyard (tates creek area) but front yard is showing 17 due to the wind on top of the hill at manowar intersection
Low totals in Pulaski Co. too. I’m gonna guess the total may be 5 or 6 inches when all is said and done. I can’t even imagine 20 inches of snow.
Husband just measured 12.5 inches in my yard. Burgin ( mercer county )
Light dusting in Bell county.
16 inches in east frankfort EPIC!
Yea! Central KY definitely got its winter weather groove back this year! I was wondering where you were Todd!!
What did you measure this morning? I was 13.4″ around 7ish
Just over 12 in Hopkinsville still snowing lightly
http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/snowfall/
16 inches in Shepherdsville and 18 inches in Mt Washington
Still snowing
I just measured 13 inches in Hamburg area of Lexington. Still coming down pretty heavily!
Still snowing here in Carter Co. with about 9-10 inches here in town. Out in the county there are roads with high water and several areas have power outages. Yes, the snow sure is beautiful and I went out early and took some pics of this winter wonderland. Chris, happy 3rd anniversary and congrats on keeping everyone informed CORRECTLY on the track and intensity of this storm. Everyone stay warm and safe.
Absolutely nothing to see here in the Middlesboro/Tri State area. 4 inches of rain and barely a skiff of sleet/snow and I couldn’t be happier with this outcome! Flooding is at a minimum, nothing to shovel, power intact and life will be back to normal tomorrow. Best of all…Spring temperatures arriving in the next few days. Finally, this winters days are almost numbered!
Aboutt a foot here in sturgis, ky.
And the other guy predicted 6-10.. lol
Total bust for Lexington, 8-14 was a joke. At 16″ right now. Tired of these busted forecasts.
(someone will take this post seriously)
I hear ya. I didn’t have enough snow that I made a luge off my deck steps into the yard. About a 7 foot drop down the steps and then down my backyard slope. Too much fun!!
So many mets under estimated this storm. Chris didn’t, great job Mr. Bailey.
In Mount Sterling on the flattest area I could find I just measured 12 inches. I wouldn’t be shocked if it would be more than that. The snow is at least 6-8 inches up our back door.
Was hoping to watch some TODAY Show this a.m. but all we have is WSAZ with their constant coverage of this storm…can you believe it?
Stuck on the north side of Lexington off Paris Pike, at a local motel. At least 13-14 inches. Roads completely covered
I’ve got around 11 in Woodlawn Park (east Louisville). It’s so gorgeous. My 18 yr old has never seen snow like and is in awe. Friends in Etown have 21. I figure 11 is just as pretty, but not as hard to clean up.
Be safe!
Remember when Ky had this “dome” over it that prevented any good snows?
Just measured snow in front yard in Clay county. We have 4 inches of snow as of now and still snowing here!
Can someone explain to me how it’s 2015 and the NWS still gets storms so severely wrong??
They forecast my area for 10-13″, reports coming in are 13-15″, that’s pretty good for winter. Winter is much more difficult to predict than other seasons.
13.4″ on my deck in NW Lexington
In any other season, the difference of a few degrees or a few .10s of an inch of precipitation is not really impactful or noticeable.
So, it’s not that winter forecasts are more wrong, it’s that the margin of error in any forecast is really, really obvious and measurable. Literally.
NWS nailed it here forecasted 1-3 of Frozen and that is probably what we will end up with 3 inches of frozen and 3.7 inches of liquid
Well to be fair to the NWS. Who predicted 22” of snow? Nobody. This storm was worse in some parts of Kentucky than anyone could’ve ever thought.
Agreed. Was in the 8-14 plus range here in ohio county and ended up with 21. We were almost always in the forecast for heavy banding…whose to know it would be so much!
Evidently overstated the amount of ice here on the state line. However, it IS there and is nasty slick. Snow almost done – 2 to 3in with ice underneath.
Just measured in carrie off knott co 1.5 inches
Bourbon County. New measurement 17 inches measured in several locations on level ground not snow drifts those are well over 20 all over back yard. Not sure 4 wheeler will pull the tube for my daughter but gonna have fun trying.
Snow seems to be moving out pretty quick and the trend of more rain than snow with these types of systems seems remain on track for my area
How much snow did you get Andy? Barely a skiff here.
around 2 inches of total frozen.
I know you guys in Knox have really been left out of the snow action this year. Hope you get a real thumper next winter (that is if you want one). Trust me after last week, I have my fill of snow for the next 5 years LOL, so you’re welcome to our share!
I’m glad we didn’t have the sleet storm that was predicted.
Same here buddy
Another heavy round coming through south side of Lex! Never in my life have I seen such a snow!
CB just said on WKYT that this is one of the biggest snows in Lexington history. I was thinking that we are already at the biggest, with official totals at 14.5″ a few hours ago. No?
21 inches here in Anderson County. Yay!!!
Solid 12 + ” near downtown Lexington. Still coming down.
Many thanks to Chris. Another stellar forecast.
Electric off here in greenup
Close to 15 inches here in rural Greenup ky…and still pouring
5 inches of snow and rivers/streams way out of their banks this morning. (letcher county)
14 inches in Burgin and still snowing. Going by the radar it is about to end. I will give a final total later. Everyone be Safe !!
Last burst of snow now in Lexington before all is said and done. North part of Lexington did get more than south. It’s odd because there were 2 bands last night into this morning. One set up south of Lexington and the other on the north side of Lex. Central and south Lex didn’t get as much but I still have 14″ on the ground right now! More than last storm for me and many others. It really seems like mother nature is making up for A LOT of lost timeby bringing a SECOND double digit snowstorm that’s even larger and in March! I mean, we were recording the LEAST snowiest start to winter ever in Lexington in January and now we are in the TOP TEN snowiest winters ever! I feel like were in Boston where they were having nearly no snow until that first blizzard in January struck. Now they’re less than 2″ away from snowiest winter on record
Hamburg area of Lexington has between 15-17 inches of snowfall. Last moderate to heavy band is coming through now.
This is the 3rd highest snow total I have seen in my life.
1) Kirksville, MO – 23 inches
2) Marion, NC – 20 inches
3) Lexington, KY – 15-17 inches
Wow! 🙂
Forgot to put dates with those:
Kirksville – February 2011
Marion – March 1993
Lexington – Present!
Just saw a electric pole snapped in half on my road…wonderful :/
Looks like we’ve ended up with 14″ to 16″ here in Shelbyville, double what we had in the last storm.
I’m confused with Lexington’s records because for whatever reason, 1998 is missing. It’s not missing for Louisville, but it is for Lexington. I think that is the largest snow I’ve never seen in my life. That was 18 to 20 inches which mostly fell in 2 days.
I think in March 93 Brevard NC got 18 inches……
I remember quite a few foot snow storms growing up……but this is up there with the biggest of them……
I think ’98 was over the course of three days (Feb 3 – 5) and no two combined days went over 12.” The records I’m seeing listed on the NWS site are two day March totals and two day all time totals.
I’d be interested to hear what your seasonal totals are like after this storm for various bloggers. This winter for KY was on pace to be the least snowy on record until about 5 weeks ago
Hi Tommy!
Still less than 10 inches for the season in Knox.
Chris you nailed this storm for southeastern, KY. We have 5 inches of snow so far in Clay county. Thanks for keeping us updated and all your hard work and all the wkyt weather team.
Almost 4 in northern clay co at my place.
19 1/2 in Madisonville.
Okay CB, when’s the next one? We’re on a roll 🙂
Won’t be next week there calling 50’s degrees temps.
Possibly in two weeks. Storm was showing up on the GFS. We will see if the warmth of next week is here to stay or not?
We’ve got about 3 inches of snow in the Belfry area of Pike County. I’ve heard that the city of Pikeville has closed its flood gates around the city for the first time since 1977.
I do believe you mowed down the forecasted totals from all your competition Mr. Chris “The Champ” Bailey!!!
3 inches on top of the mountain I’m working on in perry co
Ok, that does it! This is the best winter ever! The snow did not disappoint. What a memorable winter we have experienced. Thank you Mr. Bailey for all your hard work and dedication this winter. The blog has been great at keeping us informed! Hope everyone enjoys all the snow!
WSAZ gave my area 1to 3 inches of slush.. I have 6 inches of solid snow and it’s still pouring.
For those keeping track, the dome is still intact in Knox Co. No event greater than 5 inches this year. Lol. Bring Spring.
let it dry out a bit 1st there Bob 😉 I’m am officially cut off from Barbourville.
Lexington is officially at 17.1 inches for this storm. It is the greatest two day snowfall on record. The seasonal total stands at 40 inches…fourth highest on record. We are only 2.1 inches behind 1977-1978.
Snow has now stopped in SW Lex. Measured about 16 inches in the backyard. Unreal.
50 and 60 next week…….think spring
NW Lexington (Masterson Station)
Official and final tally on my back deck: 15″
Think Spring!
14″ in north Madison.
No more talk of the river dividing line or snow dome Bubba!
I’m sorry Bubba I know how you did not want this because of the shoveling
17″ north, north Madison…Clays Ferry.
10.5″ on the ridge in Putnam County, WV. On I-64 between Charleston and Huntington. Light snow still coming down.
65 North near E-town still at a standstill on CNN.
16.5 inches here in Greenup county! And no power
21″ here in the heart of Bardstown-right behind the Justice Center/BPD/Sheriff’s Dept. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! 😀
Thor is almost out of the state…and left a HUGE mess behind! We’ve been seeing on local news the big back-up on I-65 south near Elizabethtown. Had to send in the National Guard to help those folks out. Many ran out of fuel and we’re not prepared to be cold. Some with families/small children. Keep these folks in thoughts and prayers!
Flooding has destroyed a lot. Very sad situation
Sadly that will not be the headline.
Maybe this will keep us all from cursing the snow gods again next year!
All said and done….Middlesboro/Harrogate,TN Tri State area…
4 inches of rain
.50 inch of sleet/snow
Woohoo!!! no shoveling this time around!!! Here’s to hoping for a new dome forming for the next 5 years at least! 🙂
That Middlesboro Brandon guy that comes on here, will swear up and down that he has has 12 inches of snow in backyard…haha
lol Well, he was telling the truth when he said that last week. From the Monday and Friday storm we actually had around 16-18″ total, which is why I’m extremely grateful that this one was a bust for us.
Still snowing In Clay county. 6 inches here in Clay and still coming down!!!
25″ in Radcliff, WOW! Hardin County is a complete mess, cars abandoned everywhere on the interstate and side roads.
Ok snow lovers that beg for a hugh snow storm to happen back in January and february you got your a wish and the has been busted.
not for all the ones that got this one are the same ones that got the last one
Snows bout wrapped up 3 inches here in Carrie
Knott county
Great job Chris on your accumulation predictions. I have about 11.5 inches in Putnam Co. WV. WSAZ had me in the 4 to 6 area. Finally a double digit total. Kudos.
15″ near Rio Grande, Ohio on US Rt 35. Gallia/Jackson county line.
Started with sleet about 5:00 yesterday afternoon. Changed over to snow after about 20 minutes. Moderate to heavy snow through 11:30 this morning. On and off snow showers since then.
Thanks for all your work Chris.
I know this is more of a snow event page more than anything but I have to say the river flooding in SE Ky was way underplayed on here. Devastating flooding in Pike and Floyd counties. The NWS in Jackson talked about it for days ahead of time though.
Very sad, but true. Hope you folks recover quickly with many dry warm days ahead.
Have talked about the flooding potential for more than a week! Impossible to get specific for any one county when I cover 120 of them on here.
It wasn’t 1 county
No it wasn’t just one. I think you normally do a great job, just saying you underestimated the flooding. You said and I quote, “This is not a major flood event.” Folks in Floyd, Pike, Perry, Harlan, Letcher, and a few more would disagree.
Someone told me today a silt pond dam broke in Harlan today. Also about 4 roads were closed in Knox due to water.
More than 4 roads in Knox
I said numerous times on air… this isn’t a major flood event for most areas, but if it impacts you, it’s major. Again… I simply cannot concentrate on EVERY single county or event on this blog or all of the outlets I do. I give you the information and specifically told everyone to watch water levels… NUMEROUS TIMES. That’s all I can do.

omg your going to give CB sh!t over this forecast?! CB by far lead the way with this storm.
I never said it was, Andy. I said I can’t simply focus on any one county.
Got about 3 inches snow in my part of Nashville, and that was on top of some ice and sleet. The ice was a combination of all that heavy rain water that froze and freezing rain accumulation. NWS Nashville had said in an updated Forecast Discussion that there may be a bit more freezing rain than expected, but turned out there were no power issues at my place where my wife and I are waiting out the wx (both our workplaces shut down).
Now, this warm wx person is really ready for spring 😉 .
RIP Nashville TN snowdome (click link), although this dome sure didn’t do much good against ice storms………
Wow, over 4 years for 1″ of snow. Sure am glad that didn’t happen in Knox County.
The last snow we got 10 inches, then another 3 inches on top of that, this storm we have between 12 – 14 inches depending on where I measure! What a Crazy wonderful past 3 or 4 weeks ! Thanks Chris!
Since this storm is over, and more than likely all the big snows of winter 2014-2015. Where does the dome still live?
Knox County is one place that it lives. Was broken West, North, and Southeast of us. Less than 10 inches for the year and not one event over 5 inches.
Anywhere else?
Got 16 inches for the year at my house in knott co after today.
Your place must be a geographical/meteorological oddity. I’m in Perry Co. and we’ve had around 23 inches in the last three weeks, including 5.25 today.
We got three hours of sleet that knocked totals way down with the storm on presidents day. Hardest precipitation of the storm was during that timeframe. Might have pushed 10 inches without that but ended up around 5. Might of gotten 3 today. Amazingly mboro is SE of me and has been nailed twice since the first storm.
3 inches here today
Dome still lives over Wayne County, we got about 5 1/2 out of the first system, & 3 to 3 1/2 with this system. Both caused enough issues with travel so maybe it’s a good thing the dome only cracked a lil bit.
i have measured a little over 25in in hindman in knott co in the past three weeks. they have had more than that in others parts of the county
we got just atad under 5 in today also
Oh the excitement and anticipation of a big snowstorm. Now, I feel as if it is the day after Christmas. And we will probably have to wait until next year for even a chance of a snow event. Also…most likely, never again one of this magnitude in my lifetime. . Thanks CB for all you do to help keep us informed and safe. I have enjoyed visiting this site. It’s been fun.
That’s a good way to put it, today does feel like the day after Christmas. I loved all the excitement of tracking the storm from it’s change from warm weather to cold, 60s to rain to sleet to a deluge of snow. Now we’ll have to wait until next winter for that excitement. Thanks Chris B for all your tireless work with this blog and your WKYT forecasts. You’re the best!
This was a fun event. Glad I read here with all the talk of the flooding and high water potential and then snow on here I was prepared. Thanks CB for keeping us informed.
“From Flooding To A Winter Storm”
That headline fit my area pretty well. Road was totally under water and so were other roads around the country. Then we get almost 6 inches at my place with this water frozen on the road underneath. Went out and it is slick. Should be real nice with the cold air that is coming in.
Have seen that some areas around the state flooded pretty bad and other areas with huge snow totals. Hope every stays safe.
On a positive note it seems that most places I have viewed are in agreement with some warmer air next week. Even WKYT has some 50’s and 60’s showing up.
An amazing end to the Winter of 2014/15. After a non-existent Dec/Jan the last 3 weeks were awesome for a snow lover. I never thought after that bad start to the snow season that my area would end up with a normal to slightly snow total. Thanks again for all your hard work Chris….you are missed in WV but some of us still follow you.
Chris nailed the forecast for my area (Harlan County) – high water problems, sleet, and just a bit of snow at the end. I got my fill of the white stuff last month, so I’m not disappointed about missing out.
I enjoy reading this blog as well – I recently switched to satellite TV due to the local cable company raising their rates, and as a result, I no longer receive any Kentucky television stations. The Knoxville broadcasts are alright, but it just isn’t the same.
Thanks for all you do, Chris!
J,
I believe at least some of the local (Lexington) stations stream their evening newscasts. Here’s the wkyt link: http://www.wkyt.com/home/misc/3927621.html
15 inches total in Ashland Ky. My kids finally got to see what I grew up with in the 70s and 80s on a regular basis.
Currently 27 in Knoxville with a windchill of 18. Knoxville received little to no snow out of this weather event. Some sleet late morning into early afternoon caused a number of traffic problems but this was a bullet dodged for the most part. Concerns for black ice and freezing fog tonight but hopefully the winds will help dry the streets. Family in Southeastern Kentucky saw quite a bit of flooding, ice and snow.
Excellent job as always. You nailed my area in Paducah.
