Good evening, gang. I continue to beat the drum about the increasing flood threat for the week ahead. We have two significant waves of rain coming our way. The first arrives Monday night with the next one shooting in here later in the week.
Slug of moisture number one can easily drop 1″-3″ of rain across our region. The NAM…
The GFS…
Given the melting snow, wet ground and already swollen waterways… I’m very surprised flood watches aren’t already out for this time period. This situation should not be underplayed given the antecedent conditions.
The next heavy rainmaker arrives late Thursday into Friday and lasts into the weekend. The GFS continues to add to the numbers…
Some areas could be looking at 5″ or more of rain in the next week. Folks… that would cause significant flooding conditions over more of a widespread area than what we just had a few days ago.
I will have another update later tonight. Take care.
When it rains it pours
Geez, we’re certainly in an active pattern aren’t we..? Today was awesome though, full sun, mid 60s here in Perry co.
In response to MarkLex…
The average amount of snow is still nearly the same even if you add the winter before.
2009-10′ 23.7″
So the 6 year period averages out to 23.1″ per year.
Looking through historical data, the last time we had a six year period that averaged out equivalent, or above 23.1 inches in a six year period was from the winters of 1965-66′ to 1970-71′ which had an average of 24.1″ per year! One other in between came close with an average of 21.6″ from 1976-77′ to 1981-82′. So statistically, we should be entering a period with more below normal snowfall BUT also, we are still statistically due for a couple more big snow storms. They kinda defy each other, so we’ll have to wait and see how the next several winters play out.
Oh wow Chris I hate to see that.We came so close these past week. Our home was spared but my husband lost a rental house to the flooding. All we can do is prepare I guess but thanks for the updates.
Did someone say snow for easter????….
