Good afternoon everyone. Our day started off on a rocking note with widespread showers and strong thunderstorms across the state. These put down more heavy rains and now comes the next wave of storms rolling through. This next wave is taking aim on the south and east.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect until 8pm for parts of southern and southeastern Kentucky. Here is a look at the counties included…
You can find the latest warnings here…
Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats with these storms. I am thinking this cluster will try to develop farther north this afternoon so that is something to watch for. You can do just that with the radars…
Other strong storms will develop across western Kentucky into southern Indiana today and these will come racing eastward as well. In addition to the severe threat.. the flooding threat is on the increase.
A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for northern and eastern Kentucky. The NWS in Jackson has been slow to recognize the flood threat and did not get a watch out until some areas were already seeing flooding from this mornings storms.
I will have updates as needed and will be using Twitter for warnings and short updates. Keep posting the weather where you live so your fellow bloggers can get an idea of what is going on across the state.
Take care.

Hey Tim do you need anything or you all ok
Can someone tell me if the storms moving through Madison and Estill Counties toward Powell are severe or is it mostly heavy rain?
Where is everyone? Seems to be slow on here for such a stormy day. Would like to know how these storms are acting other places. I hope everyone is alright and no major flooding problems. Will keep all in my prayers.
Wow, it’s storming to beat everything in Perry County. It’s just now starting to let up a little. What a storm! I imagine there has to be flash flooding around here. It was raining so hard, I couldn’t see the road. Heavy lightening!
It’s still thundering and lightening, but not as bad as it was.
Looks like some more storms coming into Indiana, are those headed our direction (Magoffin)also, are they looking to be severe? I
Kristy, just heard Jimmy Neil say that it would be unlikely, because they should calm down. I hope so.
Thanks, I hate storms..
i’m thinking they’ll be extending the flash flood warning for pike co.
Yea, me to I hate them but I love them. They scare the day lights out of me when they get bad, but yet I think the weather in all is awsome. I know that makes no sence at all, lol.
we’re not done yet.

Sun has popped out in Somerset. Gettin hot and sticky. Wonder if this will allow any more storms to fire in southern Ky?
somerset may see some but i think us closer to TN border are done with most of it
I’m no radar expert. But I’m looking at all those counties in NC under sever t storm warnings and some of the storms don’t even look sever to me. Is it because of the mountains or something?
they will slip into our parts of ky. chris said so.
And there is now a Tornado watch out for most areas west of Frankfort…
