Good Tuesday folks and thanks for dropping by this little thing we like to call Kentucky Weather Center. Exciting additions are coming to the blog later this year as we begin to branch out. More on all that in the weeks ahead! ![]()
The atmosphere continues to run “supercharged” right now and Monday was yet another example of this. Every opportunity the atmosphere has to produce showers and storms it takes it to the max! Monday produced another round of severe weather for many areas and that same thing is likely to happen out there again today.
In addition to any storms that decide to go severe today… a bigger threat through Friday is likely to be the potential for torrential rains across the state that can lead to flash flooding problems yet again. The setup will feature waves of showers and storms moving across the area with Wednesday and Thursday featuring the most widespread activity. This will be the prime time to watch for high water problems.
The HPC rainfall map this week is impressive…
That shows 2″-3″ + rains being possible across much of the area. That does not take into account localized heavier rains in thunderstorms.
Speaking of storms… here is your daily dose of radar…
The map below will cover your severe weather needs from the Storm Prediction Center…
Wednesday Severe Threat map from the SPC…
A couple of quick hitting thoughts before I leave you…
1. Don’t put much stock in the model forecasts on where these clusters of storms will form or move. Convective feedback issues will give them fits… especially the GFS.
2. While we MAY catch a day or so break in the pattern by the weekend… It does not look like it will continue and we may got right back into a stormy stretch next week.
3. Still NO signs of heat on the horizon!
Have a great Tuesday and I will update as needed. You can also follow along on Twitter in the top right hand corner of the blog. You can also sign up to receive free texts from me on your cell phone. You can even tweet me back! ![]()
Take care.

After looking at the ensembles for the last couple of days I’m not having high hopes for a dry vacation next week 🙁
Oh well, I hope the high water stays away, we’ve dealt with enough of that so far this year.
A teaser! Okay Chris, what are you going to do to our favorite weather site? I learn more about the weather from this blog than from any other source, sod on’t change it too much please.:) Pretty impressive rain fall amount coming our way.
I will never complain about rain during the summer months. I love having a green yard. I do NOT water my yard — too many years in Texas where that was not allowed. Plus, my yard is about four acres!
Chris, does your wife approve of you giving out free Tweets?
And getting Tweets from total strangers?
You may have more Tweets than you can handle!! 🙂
Having a green yard is nice.
A couple of EF-3s out in an open field would be nice also…
Morning all. Chris, thanks for the update. There were a few sprinkles this morning, but they were few and far between. I am guessing that maybe later today, or tomorrow, we might see more in coverage from the rains, the way you are talking. We could actually use some rain at my house. It is starting to get kind of dry. Most of the rain last week skirted us to the north and south. We did manage about a half an inch, but that is all.
I am very curious to know what you mean by ‘branching out’ on the blog! Sounds exciting!
by the way, just wanted to thank you for the radars you always put up for us. since I keep this site in my favorites, it is really nice to just click on it, and be able to get to current radars in a hurry. Makes it very nice! Thanks again, and I can’t wait to see what you are planning on doing with the site! Have a GREAT day, everybody!
keep those up there 😛
What do the tropics look like? I’m heading to Jamaica on friday for a week, then to the Bahamas in July.
I don’t know, GFS has that 30 degree isotherm setting up shop around here next week, which would mean hot weather if it stays dry..
But the GFS and Canadian ensemble members are both keeping things very active through this region for the next two weeks. I don’t think we’re going to see any prolonged stretch of dry weather for a while.
Which area are you 2 talking about our area or Jamaica
I’m referring to Kentucky.
Thanks
I know you all hate when someone asks a question like this, but…well, I’m gonna do it anyway 🙂
I need to know if the rain at Ichthus this year will be the purple-lightning- concert-cancelling kind like last year or the make-you-soggy-but-still-able-to-have-fun kind. Not that it really matters, I just want to know what to expect
Thanks!
Patti, the forecast for Ichthus is looking very wet with strong to severe storms possible both tomorrow and Thursday.
Thanks Shane. That’s what I figured.
