Good Saturday evening gang. I promised to drop by for a quick update on the major pattern change and the tropical rains heading our way over the next several days. Let’s do it with the headlines…

Today’s heat was impressive with many areas of central and western Kentucky hitting 100 degrees. Some for the third day in a row. Scattered strong storms are flaring up into the evening in some areas.

– The heat wave will end on a booming note as a powerhouse of a cold front dips in here on Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase as the day wears on. Some strong or severe storms will be possible later in the day into the evening hours.

-This cold front will slowly work across the region into Labor Day. Tropical moisture from Lee will continue to be drawn northward resulting in very heavy rains. Outdoor activities on Monday are in serious jeopardy… especially across central and eastern Kentucky. Temps will come WAY DOWN!! Readings may struggle to get to the low and mid 70s.

What is left of Tropical Storm Lee will then move northeastward along this front into Tuesday. Heavy rains will be likely along the path of this system. As it stands now… much of central and eastern stand to receive a good amount of water. Eastern and southeastern Ky will have to be on guard for flooding as amounts greater than 4″ will be possible.

Here is the latest rain forecast from the GFS through Tuesday Night…

– Don’t get too caught up in the exact cutoff of exact totals as that always varies from run to run. The theme continues to be the same… a lot of rain is coming to much of the region over the next several days.

– The storm formerly known as Lee should then become cut off from the main flow and meander around the Ohio Valley into NEXT weekend. This will give us a daily threat for showers and thunderstorms beyond the time of the above rain map.

– Temps over the next week will be cool and possibly very cool. Areas getting in on heavy rains for the better part of a given day will stay in the 60s for highs. If the weather is dry outside your house… temps in the low to mid 70s will be common for a high.

Here are your radars to track the scattered boomers this evening…

Full update comes your way tonight. Take care.
