Good Saturday everyone. The headline says it all as we are facing the increasing threat for this afternoon into the evening across the state. Watch the northwestern sky for thunderstorms to crank and slide southeastward into the area. Damaging winds, large hail and some isolated tornadoes will be possible.
The blog will go live when the storms develop and I will have multiple updates as needed today. Here is everything you need to track the storms…

Morning Chris,
This is Chris from the NWS chat – it looks to be an active day and afternoon. I hope it is not to bad on my SE KY folks. Well we will see good to see ya still bloggin. check back with ya later this afternoon here or most likely on the or chat service.
I don’t care what it does as long as we get beneficial rain and not this piddly stuff we have been having
Morning everyone. Looks to be an active day. Fingers crossed that everyone gets rain that needs it, but that the storms go easy on us all.
Is there a site for a map of rainfall or soil moisture for Kentucky?
MOrning to all. Thanks for the heads up Chris. I know you talked about it yesterday, so I can’t say that I am surprised.
OK, first we had way too much rain, and now, we are getting dry. Chris, do you see the southeastern and southern parts of the state being in dry to drought conditions again this year? I really don’t want it to get dry like it has for the past two or three summers here.
And Andy Rose, I agree with you. We need some rain, not the piddly stuff we have gotten all week here.
Is it just me, or do you all notice that the two wunderground radars don’t seem to update properly? Right now they are showing data from three days ago.

CONCERNING…SEVERE POTENTIAL…WATCH POSSIBLE
VALID 301951Z – 302115Z
TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF AN INCREASING
SEVERE THREAT WHICH COULD REQUIRE A WW LATE THIS AFTERNOON.
BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING BENEATH A FAIRLY COLD MID-LEVEL ENVIRONMENT
…AND 40-50 KT WEST NORTHWESTERLY 500 MB FLOW ON THE SOUTHERN
PERIPHERY OF THE GREAT LAKES UPPER TROUGH…IS CONTRIBUTING TO
MODERATELY STRONG DESTABILIZATION ACROSS THE REGION. LATEST RUC
ANALYSIS SUGGESTS MIXED LAYER CAPE IS NOW IN EXCESS OF 1500
J/KG…WITH FURTHER DESTABILIZATION POSSIBLE. MID-LEVEL INHIBITION
IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY NEGLIGIBLE…AND INITIATION OF STORMS MAY
ALREADY BE UNDERWAY NEAR/EAST OF LOUISVILLE. FORCING ASSOCIATED
WITH A WEAK SHORT WAVE IMPULSE SEEMS LIKELY TO SUPPORT
INCREASING/INTENSIFYING CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT ACROSS EAST CENTRAL
KENTUCKY WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. IN THE PRESENCE OF STRONG
DEEP LAYER SHEAR…A COUPLE OF SUPERCELLS APPEAR POSSIBLE BEFORE
UPSCALE GROWTH INTO A SMALL ORGANIZED MESOSCALE CONVECTIVE SYSTEM
OCCURS ACROSS EAST CENTRAL/SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY THROUGH THE 23-00Z
TIME FRAME. AN ISOLATED BRIEF TORNADO IS NOT OUT OF THE
QUESTION…
STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP LATE THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH EVENING IN RESPONSE TO AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT. THE MAIN
THREAT WITH STORMS THAT DEVELOP WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS. IN
ADDITION…LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED TORNADOES CAN NOT BE RULED OUT.
AS WITH ANY THUNDERSTORMS…PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN AND DANGEROUS
LIGHTNING CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED.
AFTER SUNSET…THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL DIMINISH AND A COLD
FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA. THIS WILL LEAVE DRY CONDITIONS
FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE NIGHT.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT
AS A COLD FRONT SLOWLY MOVES SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION. IT IS TOO
EARLY TO DETERMINE THE POTENTIAL STRENGTH OF THESE STORMS. HOWEVER
ANY STORM COULD PRODUCE BRIEF HEAVY RAIN…CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING
AND GUSTY WINDS.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…
SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL LIKELY BE REQUESTED LATE THIS AFTERNOON OR
EVENING. SPOTTERS ARE REQUESTED TO RELAY ANY REPORTS OF SEVERE
WEATHER TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE THROUGH
THIS EVENING.
Hi guys! Watch likely coming soon as storms are exploding across the state. Updating twitter right now and will take the blog live and have another update soon.
It is now thundering in SE Lexington.
Things are looking ugly by Fayette Mall. Thunder and very dark skies.
Strong lightening storm just rolled through Scott Co. Lightening was scary and thunder was very loud. Not much rain and no wind but oh the lightening!
thunder and lightning at Jacobson Park. Radar looks like it will go north.
