EARLIER DISCUSSION…
Hello everyone and thanks for all of your help with the blog during Friday’s severe weather. It was a day that turned deadly with a possible tornado touching down in Madison county. One person was killed with several other injured. Significant damage also occurred and I will have some pics for you guys
in my next post.
In the short term… more severe weather is likely across the southern half of the state as a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect until 7am…
Here is a look at the latest warnings…
Thunderstorms are stretching from west to east and this has me concerned about, not only severe weather, but for torrential rains and flash flooding. Many counties across central and eastern Kentucky have been dealing with high water since Friday afternoon. We have had roads closed, high water rescues and homes and businesses flooded. I do not like how the radar looks!! You can follow the storms here…
You get the picture after looking at those radars! “Training” of storms is taking place as they continue to move over the same areas over and over. This is a situation that can get very ugly overnight into very early Saturday morning.
I will be updating the blog as much as I can and will be using Twitter as well. Help us out by posting whatever weather information you can give us from where you live.
Take care.

WOW… just got settled in back in the house after several hours outside..We live in Northern Perry and it just kept training right over us, most rain weve had in years. The water just kept rushing off the mountain behind the house and the drainage system just couldn’t handle it. It overtook the back yard and was just starting to trickle into the back door when the rain finally quit and it receded… but now the entire yard is covered with about 5 or 6 inches of silt and mud and rock.. not sure how we are going to clean it up..
Now taking a peak at the radar and its starting to fill back in..that sucks..
Hope everyone is safe and lets pray the rain dies out tonight..
The drive back home tonight was definitely scary. I had to stop and wait for several minutes while police and power crews were out on 52. As stated, the intersection of 1295 and 52 was completely blocked off so I had to turn around and do a big detour through Richmond to get back onto 1295. But I did see quite a bit of metal blown into fences, road signs thrown into the grass, and power poles leaning over.
I am very saddened to hear about the elderly man who was a victim of today’s storm, and his family members will be okay. It’s not easy to pick up the pieces after stuff like this, so let’s all remember them, and also remember those who have lost their homes in today’s storms.
Take care everyone. 🙁
In actuality, this storm system has hit me pretty hard. I feel like that man who passed away from these storms was really loved, and I want all of his family members to know I have felt their pain. Maybe he was a farmer, dedicated to his work and his family. I really do feel for them all.
The song for me is Kenny Chesney’s “A Lot of Things Different.” It strikes me as particularly touching tonight.
Prayers go out to his family.

A lot of people might not look at it this way, but if I had been at that intersection just an hour later, it would have been me instead of that man. That is what hits me so hard, and what hits home to me. I was only an hour away from certain death…..that is enough for me to stop and wake up for a while and take inventory of my life and to be thankful for what I have.
🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
Thank God I’m still here.

Well did you get enough Rain ?
STRANDED HERE UP A HOLLOW IN EASTERN PIKE CO. IF ANYONE IS FAMILIAR WITH THE PIKE CO. AREA I’M NEAR BELFRY UP PONDCREEK. OCTAVIA HOLLOW IS FLOODED. THE WATER IS MOVING REALLY FAST. TOOK OUT THE MAJORITY OF MY NEIGHBORS YARD. Runyon ELEMENTARY HAS WAIST HIGH WATER. STAY SAFE
(ALSO IF THEY HAVEN’T ALREADY, WATER FROM MTN. WATER DIST. I HEARD IS GETTING READY TO BE TURNED OFF.)
My prayers go out to those who were hit last night. My oldest son graduates today from EKU, so guess I had better get the old boat fired up and start our journey. Good thing they plan to have it indoors. Everyone keep safe.
I Will be thinking of my fellow SE and E KY neighbors today i know its tough and am thankful that we didn’t get as much rain and storms as others did even though Some people say we should be thankful for all the rain. I wonder what they would think if they had to carry a pair of pants to their vehicle to change into once they got in it because of having to walk through the mud to get to their vehicle
Good morning to all. I have taken a look at the radar, and it looks like we are in for it again today, rain wise anyway. I am glad that we did not see severe weather overnight here, but we have picled up another almost inch of rain in my backyard since about 6 last night.
It is raining as I am typing this, and the radar looks to keep is doing so for the next several hours.
Please PLEASE stay safe out there on the roads if you are out, and watch for rising water. I know that there are several counties who are dealing with things a lot worse than we have then here, and my heart goes out to them.
at this point in time, we have a flash flood watch, but just to our west, a flash flood warning, and the way it is raining, I will not be surprised if we get a flash flood warning before too long.
Chris, thank you so much for everything you do, and especially when we are having weather like this. Your dedication to the blog, and your weather lovers is amazing, and very much appreciated.
Pat you be careful on your way to Richmond, and congrats to your son.
Andy Rose, I know what you mean. I am not having to carry pants, but I an having to carry shoes and socks.
Well, I guess I’ll probably have to move my wedding inside, but I’m not going to complain. We have been very lucky where I am to not have to deal with floods, tornadoes, and landslides from this round of storms. I know some other people in Clay County have probably not been as fortunate with the flooding. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by yesterday’s severe weather and to all of those who might be suffering from the rain that continues to flood so many areas. Here’s to hoping that the rain will give everyone a break SOON!
Woke up to husband yelling for me to get out of bed….half the house surrounded by water….packed up to move but thankfully the water began to recede. Thoughts and prayers to everyone out there who hasn’t been so lucky! Thanks Chris for all you do!
Tab, congrats to you on your wedding day. I am sorry it is raining for the big day, but, that really won’t matter much, a few years from now!
Best wishes for a long and happy life together to youand your bride! May you be as happy always as you are today, and may you fall deeper in love as the years go by! God bless you on your wedding day, and always! 😀
Pouring rain here now. The clouds to the west DO look like they are trying to lighten up a little bit. Maybe we will ALL gat a break from the rain soon!
Mudslides, power outages, a trailer washed away, at least 2 schools flooded, Pike Co getting hammered.
