Hello everyone and thanks for blogging! Our super duper hot April weekend rolls on across Kentucky as thermometers will once again threaten record highs on our Sunday. If you are a fan of summer… this is your kind of weekend!
Highs Saturday again were setting records in some areas…
…RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE SET AT JACKSON KY…
A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 89 DEGREES WAS SET AT JACKSON KY TODAY.
THIS TIES THE OLD RECORD OF 89 SET IN 1990.
…RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE SET AT HUNTINGTON WV…
A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 90 DEGREES WAS SET AT HUNTINGTON WV TODAY.
THIS TIES THE OLD RECORD OF 90 SET IN 1957.
The offical thermometer is just a couple miles from Ashland, so this qualifies as a Kentucky record in my book!
Today will feature more of the same as temps warm well into the mid and upper 80s yet again. I fully expect many areas to try to flirt with or hit the 90 degree mark once again. The recent flip of our weather has been amazing as it was abrupt and drastic. It was just a few short days ago we were talking about sleet and even some flurries in some parts of the region.
As we look ahead to next week… we are likely heading into a stormy patter from the plains states to the east coast. Our first threat for showers and thunderstorms will be coming later Monday. The prime time for storms should be from mid week into Derby weekend when some severe weather may roll our way. Something to watch in the coming days.
Our Hotapolooza tour continues to look for some “hot” songs to play for you. We didn’t have to go back too far for this next one…
I actually had Bill Bryant and Valeria Cummings singing this song leading into one of my weathercasts back in the WKYT days!
Don’t worry… the clothes stayed on. We wanted to KEEP viewers! ![]()
I will have some Summer maps and thoughts coming with the next couple of updates so make sure you check back. Until next time… take care.
Thanks Chris! What a wonderful day God made! I will be looking forward to to those maps!
Beautiful weather yesterday for a wedding. Someone in another thread asked where I was located – I’m in Richmond. I think they were in Corbin. Anyway, been a wedding coordinator for 23 years. Weather is VERY important in planning. If it is outside, one has to have a Plan B. Enjoy this beautiful day everyone. Don’t forget the sunscreen!!
This is weird… early in the week I put a sweatshirt on to go outside.. and now it is HOT out there… I prefer sunny and 70 myself, we get enough heat in the summer- we dont need it in April.. Just my 2 cents.
I have a few observations from Bourbon County.
1. We still have many trees without leaves and our bushes that usually bloom in early April have not yet bloomed. Any thoughts as to why everything is so late?
2. I see a lot of white webs in the cherry trees. Is it those nasty caterpillars who caused such damage to the foal crop back in 2001? The webs are bright white and all over the place, but I haven’t seen a single caterpillar.
3. Even though we are at the normal level for rain this year, everything has a very dry look. Paddocks are very worn and the grass has a slightly yellow tinge. I am hoping for a very rainy week, then it can dry out for Oaks and Derby Day. 🙂
Bring on the heat! Can’t wait to set up the pool and just float with a glass of ice tea in hand! Ahhhhh…. I LOVE SUMMER
Good Sunday afternoon to all! boy! What a busy weekend! But the weather had been absolutely gorgeous! Chris, the ony thing better we could have asked for is that the temps were about 10 degrees cooler…..after all it is SUPPOSED to be spring, not summertime! ; but, that is the only complaint, and its not much of one!
I know we will be needing the rain, and I won’t complain about it, either. I do like the fact that we have gotten to see three days of great weather first, though!
Looking forward to your maps and thoughts on the upcoming summer, Chris! thanks for the update. we finally got the spring/summer clothes out yesterday, and move some around in the closets. Well, gotta get a little bit done before church. Check in later!
Lovin’ the songs & the weather!!
Hey Chris, got a question for you. Was there a tornado or similar around the Isonville area in Morgan county lately? We drove thru there today and I saw a storm path, with a barn shattered and roof metal blown and wrapped around trees about 300 yds away UP a hill, trees snapped and scattered, and like I said, it looked like a storm path. What do you know about it Chris? I thank-you and I thank-you for your hard work for all of us!!!
