Good Wednesday everyone. It’s another day of not so nice weather out there across the state as a stubborn area of low pressure SLOWLY pulls eastward away from us. This will mean some BIG TIME nice weather to end the week. But… all signs point to one last cold period next week before this yo yo pattern leaves us.
We will continue to hang on to a few showers today… especially in the east. It won’t rain all day, but you will need to have the rain coat handy to be on the safe side. Temps today are going to struggle today to get much above the lower 50s. If the clouds hang really tough… it may be downright chilly.
Those clouds will get out of town later tonight leaving us with a nice Thursday that will leave us with partly sunny skies and temps in the 60s. ![]()
Friday will be even better with highs well into the 70s under more sunshine. There is an outside shot at an 80 across the south to end the week.
The weekend will feature changes as low pressure works it’s way toward us. Saturday still looks pretty good with increasing clouds and an isolated shower or thunderstorm being possible late. Highs will again be in the 70s. That low will really be on us by Sunday with rain and some thunder breaking out…
GFS Sunday Evening
Colder winds will be blowing by Sunday night and Monday and this will do a number on our temps. Thermometers will tank for Monday and Tuesday and there is a chance we stay in the 40s for highs. Showers and a cold wind will be around too…
GFS Monday Evening
GFS Tuesday Evening
Man… that is ugly! ![]()
The good news is that this blocky pattern is biting the dust after next week and we will likely go into a very warm period toward the end of April that should carry us into May.
Have a great Wednesday and try to smile to beat the gloomy weather!!
Take care.

Chris or anyone else do u all think it’ll be as dry as last year or the year before ? I have a pond that has went fully dry the last two yrs and I would like to know what u all think before I try to restock it with fish. It would be awful to buy fish and let them go to waste like that

I don’t like those maps. That would show the possibility of a certain four letter s-word. I’m tired of that kind of weather myself. Bring on the heat!
Not sure where you live, but here in central KY last year was SOGGY. In fact, I recorded over 60″ of rain from October 2007-July 2008 which is almost 20″ more than we normally get in a year!
But to answer your question, my opinion is that in central KY, this Summer should be slightly wetter and slightly cooler than last year. We’ve got a lot of water in the ground right now. It’s been wet here, and in the same way that drought breeds drought, wetness breeds wetness. Just my .02 cents.
Morning all. Chris, I like the fact that we are going to see some sunshine and warmer temps. They can’t get here quick enough after the past couple of weeks! (No, I am not talking about 90s.)
I guess we can make it through today to get to the pretty weather…(guess we’ll have to 😉 )
For whatever reason, I could not see the maps this morning, Chris, but if Shane’s comment was descriptive, I probably don’t want to see them! I will take rain, and not that other word, Shane! 😉
Check in later….phone is ringing. Have a great Wednesday, everyone!
close gfs surface temps are in the upper 30’s for lows.
my early thoughts for summer are near normal temps and precip, below avg tropical actvity and more severe weather than usual.
another duel with the gfs mos for next wenesday i’ll go with 52 raw vs 61 from the mos. I agree with it next tuesday on 49 the nws has 58 which is not looking good.
What is interesting is that lately, some of the model data has been coming in too COOL. Take Monday for example, our highs went way above forecast which was a big factor in the instability/severe weather.
Coffeelady…I’m doing the same. It’s not just you.
Chris….I see a big X where the maps should be.
I am in the London/ Corbin area
was fairly wet where i live last yr in Knox County now yr before was very warm and very dry
right click on the x and either view or show should work for you
Regarding the rainfall for the summer, I remember last May or so, Chris predicted a cooler than normal summer due to the saturated ground. We had much more rain last spring. The only problem was that it suddenly stopped raining, just as it had during the summer of 2007. Both summers ended with a drought and farmers searching for hay. (even if the yearly totals were “average” – no rain for months after several wet months doesn’t help the farmers)
Hopefully this year we can stay on a regular schedule for rain as needed. Fingers crossed.
As for today – it’s COLD. I am so tired of wearing my winter clothes. This is nuts! I’ve been going to Keeneland and the college girls are wearing their sundresses despite the cool temps. They are all covered in goosebumps. Gotta say, I find that very amusing. Fashion requires sacrificing comfort. You men out there have no idea what I’m talking about. 🙂
As far as rain, last year we had a very wet spring but in the summer it stayed dry for a while, enough so that my yard went to crap. So yeah, it was wet, but it wasn’t spread out evenly throughout the year.
Hopefully the rain will stay away for about 2 weeks tired of all the mud
All I see are X’s too. I tried the right click thing and nothing happens.
you guys on Dialup or Broadband ? Sometimes you get the red X if it takes to long for the pic to load
i haven’t had any problems with it today (knock on wood)
Well, last summer (the average of the months of June, July, and August):
Louisville was 2.5 degrees above normal temperature and 1.28 inches below normal precipitation.
Lexington was 0.27 degrees above normal temperature and 1.33 inches below normal precipitation.
Bowling Green was 0.9 degrees above normal temperature and 1.58 inches below normal precipitation.
Not exactly cool and wet as expected.
