Good Thursday, everyone. Our break in the rounds of storms continues today as nice air continues for many areas. All of that is about to change as we get some serious steam to push into our region for the coming weekend. The closer we get to the weekend, the more and more it looks like scattered storms try to crash the party.
Tired of the summer talk? If so, I have some fall and winter talk later in this post. Winter weather lovers rejoice! 🙂
Highs today will be in the low and middle 80s across central and eastern Kentucky. Readings will push 90 in the west with humidity levels making it feel hotter.
Temps by Friday reach 90-95 in the west and may push 90 across central and eastern Kentucky. Humidity levels will make it feel unbearable. Heat index values around 100 will be possible for many with 105+ in the west. The steam continues into the weekend, but with a catch. That catch is… Wait for it… Wait for it… Scattered storms.
The trend for storms has been increasing a bit, so we will have to keep a close eye on that. A cold front approaches the region from the northwest by Monday and Tuesday…
The pattern for the next two weeks may try to actually skew normal to above instead of normal to below. Just something to keep an eye on.
This is the time of year I start looking around to see what some of the seasonal models are forecasting for the fall and winter ahead. The strengthening El Nino is likely to be strong or even reach “Super” status. No matter what some will say… the placement, timing and strength of this El Nino has no true analog.
The seasonal model from NASA shows our region near normal from August through October…
That same model run from November through January (as far as it goes) has a cold look for much of the country…
The latest CFS seasonal forecast shows a similar trend. Here’s the December-February look…
Notice how it grows even colder if we focus on the January through March period…
As I said a few months ago, this El Nino is fascinating to me because I can’t really find anything to compare it to. Fun times!
Have a great day and take care.
Exciting forecasts! I am so interested in seeing how this El Nino will interact with the northern branch, if we have the same type of trough action we have had over the past two winters. Still, I am not quite ready for snow just yet:)
Thanks Chris. As much as I love winter weather, I’m just happy you are talking about normal summer temps right now! Yesterday was one of those days where we flirted with the sun but until late the clouds won the battle for most of the day. But it didn’t rain! Happy Friday Eve everyone! Enjoy the day.
Wow, it actually felt comfortable out there this morning for a change.
Honestly, as much as I loathe hot and humid weather, we need to hope for as much as we can to get a break from all this flooding and potential flooding in the near future.
Phil Paige nailing it again on CB’s Twitter.
Looks like Texas did something to get a bullseye for the coming winter. Blindly throw a dart at a board of reasons and you’ll hit the right one.
As someone who is not a fan of hot and humid weather, it sincerely excites me to see talk of Autumn and Winter on the blog. Our current weather pattern has been pretty miserable, in my opinion.
Thanks for the pick-me-up, Chris. I needed it today.
I love fall – winter. last winter was brutal. by the time march rolled around I was so sick of the cold and snow. but like always im looking forward to fall/cooler temps. this year im gonna prepare for a brutal winter. stocking up on water, canned food, batteries extra fuel for my kerosene heater and those tiny green coleman bottles of gas for my grill. this time, im gonna try to be as prepared as possible without going overboard. perhaps a week worth of supplies. last winter we was without electricity for 3 days and no running water for over a week due to flooding from melting 15 inches of snow & all the rain.
im very interested in this el nino and how its going to play a part in this upcoming winter, which will be here before you know it!
