Good Friday folks! After a couple of rainy days across the state… we have one heck of a wild weekend ahead of us that is likely to include everything from severe thunderstorms to the chance for a late season snowflake. You gotta love Kentucky weather!

Let’s get it started with what is going on out there today. We will have a warm front draped just to our south for much of the day. A small bubble of high pressure will be over us for the first half of the day leading to partly sunny skies. Highs today will head toward the 60s. We will need to watch for some showers and thunderstorms trying to develop to our south that could roll into parts of the region at some point later today into tonight.

You can track any such showers and storms here…

The real action for us will come during the day Saturday as a MAJOR storm cranks across the southern plains. This low is leading to blizzard on the cold side of the storm and a big time severe weather outbreak on the warm side. It is this warm side that will impact us Saturday. Today, the main severe weather threat is to our southwest…

Latest Day 1 convective outlook

As I mentioned above… Saturday could bring a round or two of nasty storms to our region. The pure dynamics of this storm will likely be enough to produce some severe weather. The big question is how much instability will we see develop during the day Saturday. ANY sunshine could ignite a widespread severe weather event. The NAM is VERY aggressive with this potential as it’s last run was developing a ton of instability ahead of the low…

This is one heck of a storm affecting a heck of a lot of people. Just look at all of the current weather advisories that are out across the country…

NWS/SPC Watch, Warning, Advisory Map

Much of the southern and central plains states are under Blizzard Warnings. Check out the snowfall forecast map and you can see why…

Yep… that is your typical late March 1-2 feet of snow!!! WOW!! Here is a weather cam out of Wichita, Kansas for you to track any snow they get…

Oh yeah… did you notice on the above snowfall map a little blotch or two of pink showing up across parts of the region? That is because the air moving in here for Saturday continues to look cold and is actually even colder looking than a few days ago. Some rain and or snow showers will be possible Sunday as temps struggle into the lower 40s.

The pattern over the next few weeks is going to be an active one with more wild weather possible so get ready!

I will update as needed so check back. Have a great Friday and take care.
