Good Saturday everyone and welcome to the weekend! I wish I had better news in terms of the weather out there as things are looking on the ugly side for the most part. ![]()
A chilly rain will be falling for most of the day across the state. Some locally heavy showers will be likely across the south and southeast and this will wash away whatever snow may still be out there. Here is the radar to track the wall of rain…
Here is the rest of the breakdown with the headlines…
1. Highs today will be well below normal with low to mid 40s. This is just a damp and chilly day folks!
2. Sunday won’t be a whole lot better as scattered showers hang on with temps struggling to get out of the 40s once again.
3. A weak system crossing the region on Monday may have just enough to work with to produce a few sprinkles or a shower. Any clouds or showers would keep temps in the 40s while any sun will boost readings into the 50s.
4. We are likely to see a couple of milder days for Tuesday and Wednesday as temps head toward the 60s under partly sunny skies.
5. That is likely to be yet another false start on spring as a strong cold front moves in by the end of the week to bring more below normal temps to us.
6. Are we done with snow? Probably not!
I don’t know if we can get any on the ground… but more in the air is a good bet before spring can FINALLY take hold and that may still be weeks away.
7. A little deeper look into spring says once it does take hold… it may really get warm around here into the month of May!!
Have a great Saturday and I will have updates as needed through the weekend.
Take care.

Yuck to the cold rain, but yes to the overall moisture positioning (IF this were to be a snow system. This system looks pretty solid and soaking, if you know what I mean.
I-64 and south today will get in on a decent soaking rain.
YUK!
Day to stay in and enjoy a good book, some coffee, company and/or the fireplace.
AMEN!!…I agree, better yet lets just sleep through the rest of this MESS! and get to that WARM MAY that Chris is talking about….I PERSONALLY CANT WAIT after getting washed out of the big snow on thursday night.and this morning more of the same..ITS ABSOLUTELY POURING THE RAIN DOWN HERE…

Looks like I may have to put the sleds away, and DRAG THE ARK outta storage again if it keeps this up…..

Nothing but rain in Jackson County. After my adventerous ride on Thursday night I am ready for the warm weather of May too. I am not much for going down the road sideways and in circles:-)Hope everyone stays dry!
In my area it must still be verga, there isn’t any rain falling. Earlier it showered a little.
i call this a BLAH day looking forward to the short warm-up.
is anyone else having trouble loading this page? it takes forever on my computer, not normal, help!
There has been server problems for the last week or longer that oculd have something to do with it
Man this site is slow taking forever to load I think it is those pics of the snow that slowed it down..
Talk about ruining your spring time mood. Just got through looking at the GFS for March 26-30. Winter returns again if it is correct. What’s your thoughts Chris, Mitch, Wxman, and any other weather people?
Hi, james!:)
I’mno “weather-person” by any means, but even w/o looking @ any models, etc,(I never have/don’t/won’t..lol),I am catching ALL KINDS of flak w/ MY 4Cast of another “BIGGIE” blowing in here sometime between the w/e of Mar. 28th and April 10th…??! I’m thinking it might be one of our best snowfalls since the late 70’s…??! Don’t hold me to that, now…?!;) Last week I hounded my hubby about “a NICE,heavy wet snow coming around Mar. 10-15th…” and he kept laughing @ me, saying it was “too warm”…etc etc…I think Nelson Co/Bardstown got close to the most snow in the state, w/ 3″…(some got more East of me..) I just have a “feeling”…doesn’t make it necessarily SO!?;)(But for us Snow Lovers, wouldn’t it be FANTASTIC!!?)
WONDER WHY?
well, good evening to all. It has really been a wet day here in Somerset. We woke up to rain, and I think it has rained for most of the day. sometimes heavy, and other times, just annoying. Ah well, tim, I am gald you have the ark! We may ALL need it before this is done.
Chris, I like the sound of some sunshine around here. It sure sounds beter than dreary cold. If we had actually had some sun today, I think everyone would have felt a lot better.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a pretty good day anyway. I am about ready to hibernate until spring. Tim, it can’t be too far away. It OFFICIALLY begins next Friday. so, we know that warmer weather should not be too far behind.
I am about as happy about that as I hae been all winter when the “s” word has been mentioned.
Well, gotta sing at church in the AM, so I guess I had beter get to bed. Everyone have a pleasant evening, and a good Sunday. As usual, thanks for the update, Chris, and I am looking forward to the next one. ‘Night, all. Sleep well.
Tim, I remember several years back (probably in the very early 90’s) when we got a big snow and then rain came along and washed it all away. Then in ’98 we got the big one. It will come this way in due time. Things are starting to improve on the snow front for us in the past couple of years. It can only look up for us in that regard within the next couple of years, even though my sentiments regarding the winter weather over the past few years has been less than enthusiastic. I flip flop just like Rolo does, and I will admit that, but it usually takes a lot longer to do so. ( You know, repeated weather events like 10 years in a row without a REAL big snowfall to make me feel like we aren’t going to see a big one.)
I’m kind of biased towards snow, because I just love it, and a lot of other people can’t see that, but I root for it any time it makes an appearance.
I’ve been exceptionally busy between work and my social life. TV is in a sweeps period right now so the pressure is on to perform.
A song that comes to mind is Vanessa William’s song, that really comes to mind for me and snow around Kentucky is “Save the Best for Last,” in which one of the most poignant lyrics for the song include the lyric “sometimes the snow comes down in June.” Can you imagine? Yes, it can happen. And if we’re cooling down overall as a world, the snow will fly in June around here within the next few years (1 to perhaps 25 years.) Mark my words. I really do think it can happen for someone in this area or someone very nearby (and, no, I’m not talking about mountains.)
James, in your question regarding winter’s next arrival….the GFS is known for its southern and eastern bias, which means it tends to place all significant weather features just a bit too far south and east of what they usually end up to be. So, without even having any knowledge of what those maps look like, the entire temperature and precipitation schematic for that time frame is likely to work back to the north and west some 100 – 300 miles by the time THAT particular run of the GFS had forecasted for, at the time you looked at it.
March is a very significant month for the jet streams to battle it out over this part of the country. Some years are quiet, but others are much more dramatic. This year is hard to tell. It’s usually a toss-up, but someplace in the eastern half of the usually sees a large snowstorm every 2 to 3 years in March.
I should say, someplace in the eastern half of the United States sees a snowstorm in March every 2 to 3 years.
Can not wake up until noon. Why?
