Good Thursday everyone and thanks so much for dropping by the blog. This is a day where we I will have several updates on a wet snowfall that is likely to impact the southern half of the state. That will be moving in late this afternoon as a mix in the south and change over to wet snow that may be locally heavy in some areas tonight and early Friday.

Much like every snow system this winter… there will be a very sharp cutoff between those who get snow and those who don’t. This go around, we are reversing the trend as the south gets it while the north gets very little. At least that is how it looks right now.

Here is a look at the forecast models snow totals…

GFS

That is a large swath of 3″-6″ of snow for southern and southeastern Kentucky. You will also notice the quick drop off to nothing in the north.

The GFS and NAM have switched roles from last night when the GFS was driest and farther south while the NAM was wetter and farther north. Here is the NAM…

That would be a 1″-3″ wet snowfall across the south and east.

The ground is warm so the flakes will have to fight that for sure. This will be a wet snow that will be postcard pretty for those who get it as it will cling to everything.

I will have a first call out later today so check back for that. Until then.. here is the radar to track the rain and mix northward today…

Let me say this… I would not at all be surprised to see the snow end up making it farther north than the models think as the past 24 hours worth of weather argues that they models have been to far south.

We shall see my friends. Have a great Thursday and check back for updates. Take care.
