Good late Saturday evening. You knew I couldn’t stay away from the blog for long! The change to snow has been a long drawn out process as sleet has been the dominant precip type for many areas. We talked about a period of sleet during the transition but this one is lasting a while and that’s not good for snow totals as it will keep them down.

I have to give kudos to the NWS in Jackson. They were talking yesterday about this very thing being a possibility an they are looking good with that call. Hey… I am a confident enough weather dude to pat others on the back when they deserve it!

Tonight’s blog is coming to you from the folks house in good old Magoffin County because I wanted to be in the middle of some wet, heavy snows. Well… sleet is all I am getting right now and it has been coming down hard for a while now with the ground getting covered. The rains from earlier have left a covering of ice under the sleet and I have only seen some wet flakes so far. Oh well… it’s always good to get home.

I am still anticipating a switch to a period of heavy, wet snow into the overnight. Areas that get under this band will see it come down hard and it can pile up pretty quickly! Areas along and north of a line from Pikeville to Richmond look to be the favored region to see this as of right now. The latest RUC model likes that general area and it matches up with how the radar trends are setting up. Speaking of… here is the radar…

Something else to watch for will be the linkage of snow from the surface low to our east and the upper level low going by to our southwest. This may bring snow back into the south before the night is over. Roads are slickening up as temps go below freezing in all areas so be careful if you have to travel.

Keep posting your weather for us and I will have an update coming later tonight as we look ahead toward March and HOPEFULLY spring weather.

Take care folks.
