Good afternoon everyone. We have had some stout snow showers that have been making their way southeastward across parts of Kentucky. These will continue to into the afternoon hours before winding down during this evening.
They have been putting down accumulations ranging from a half inch to as much as 2″-3″ in northeastern Ky. I picked up another 2″ of snow last night and this morning bringing my weekly total to near 10″ and 18″ for the winter. I am not trying to rub it in on my fellow snow lovers, though!
Here is the radar for you to track the snow showers…
Time to break out the cams too…
Lexington
Richmond
Harrodsburg
Ashland
I75 Northern Ky
Have I made you wait long enough for a comment about next week? Well… if you are a snow lover and are wanting the big one… your faces may be doing this after looking at the latest models. The trend can no longer be ignored as they are all pretty much way to our east now with this storm meaning only a glancing shot at best from this system. Are they right? Well… only time will tell on that one but we are quickly running out of time on this one.
It’s wild that the models at this time Yesterday had a historic snowstorm from Tennessee to western New York state and today take that same storm into the eastern Atlantic Ocean for a track. Not only that… but they now show it as a regular little low.
I will keep a LOW END Winter Storm Threat going but a downgrade is likely to come later today.
It’s not like we won’t see some snow during this time because we will. Just that the BIG storm is looking VERY doubtful right now my friends.
I will update as needed so take care.
A good 2″-3″ more at my home in Ashland. Was (and still am) looking forward to a big event next week, but no matter how it turns out, we’ll just have to wait and see. Today was supposed to be just a dusting, and WHAM! Way more than expected.
The same thing might happen early next week. Never can tell š
told ya… We will always get these little 3-6 inch snows… I am 24 and haven’t seen a snow over 8 inches in a long time. I was doubting, but still can’t believe Chris is already jumping off, with model waffling expected. I thought these lows always go back west before it’s over? I was right, but that doesn’t mean I’m happy! ;(
Thanks Chris…a dusting of snow here in Isom (Letcher County).
Southeastern KY foiled again.
well I have gotten nada, zilch, not even a good dusting in this whole event and was TOTALLY HYPED for the next one..and NOW POOF!! ITS GONE… man that storm should have never showed up on the models in the first place…its all boggus anymore..
IM STILL SLEEPING !! DONT WAKE ME UP YET!!! LET ME DREAM ON FOR A FEW MORE MODEL RUNS OK…
=O(
We got ZERO snow here in Somerset. Will the last 3 runs showing an easterly shift I guess its too hard to ignore. But with southeastern ky’s luck with snow. If it hadn’t tracked east it would have tracked too far west.
Thanks for all your hard work and the good news, Chris. It’s going to take years for parts of Ky. to recover from this week’s devastating storm, so I’m hopeful that we don’t have to go through another one so soon. There’s still no power at our house and we’ve lost several big trees.
Thanks Chris….even though I wish you had better news.
Thanks Chris.
Looks like week 1 of Feb. will be cold, then week 2 we warm up bigtime. Feb. will really thaw things out around here, and that is good. I’m getting tired of Winter now.
As I sit here in Bourbon County, listening to the generator roar outside, I am happy to read that next week won’t be the BIG one. My feet are cold, I’m hungry, my trees are bent to the ground, my horse needs water, my goat is miserable, my dogs are dazed and confused, and I stink!!!
So bring on some warmth and we can anticipate a big snowfall later in February.
(typed with frozen fingers that have been without power since Tuesday afternoon)
song of the moment
Ive never felt more like singin the blues.
cause i never thought that i’d ever lose your snow baby….
you got me singin the blues…
I never felt more like runnin away
and i really dont want to stay without
you, you got me singin the blues..:(
Figures…the one time westward trend would help us, it takes the eastern track! 11 years and counting now without a single snow over 6″ (and only 2 that have reached that status, and those were in 2000 and 2001, so 8 consecutive winters now without a snowfall event over 4-6″…truly sad how the Mizer has built his Snowdome stronghold here in CKY: as always decent snow EVERYWHERE but here. I am now fully convinced that we south and east of Frankfort will never see a big one again without traveling to see it! Come on Spring, I’m done with winter here!
Man..come on down I’ll let ya shower, give ya warm meal and introduce you to the tropics of southern ky. and if you’ll hang around til sunday…its gonna be sunny and near 60!!!!!!!!!!
I think we really need to think about dividing ky.. like the carolinas, the virginias…with the way the weather is…its truley a NORTH ky. and a SOUTH ky..lol..
Hopefully you all that have suffered in the ice storm will get back to normal soon, with warmer temps. sunday hopefully it will help…
BAD THING is tonights temps. dipping into the single digits…stay warm and safe…
New song of the day: the theme from Shaft, cause that’s all we’re ever gonna get!
My face is not doing that! I love snow, but after being without power for 52 hours with 5 kids, including 2 sick ones and a baby, I really wasn’t looking forward to another storm. Thankfully the power is back on and the driveway is cleared of debris. Maybe tomorrow I can get out of the house and do some grocery shopping.
Sorry Tim, but this is the best news I’ve heard in almost a week. Now I shouldn’t have to go out a buy a generator for next week (but may do so just in case). For all of those without power or were without power and experienced losses due to downed trees from the horrible ice, may you all recover soon. I am ready for spring! I can’t wait to hear the birds chirping happily while the trees start budding. Sounds great to me right about now.
Winter 2009 is playing out as previous eleven:
1) Big snows to the north
2) Old schools systems are ice for central KY
3) Or, old school systems go east
After this sucky winter (except north KY snow snobs), we need a new lexicon for the word “jaded”.
JKL is saying we have dodged the bullet. No big snows for Eastern KY according to their discussion..or atleast unlikely it will happen. I’m begining to agree with the rest of you…time to move on to spring..biggest snow so far in Somerset 1″ what snowy winter down here…LOL
Hmm. Eastward trend, people jumping ship, still 3 days away, usually end up moving back west a couple of days or so near… My face isn’t sad yet..lol š
I feel sorry for Rolo….this will shatter his hopes. š
well ROLO will not downgrade untill tomm evening, I myself said 12 plus inches yesterday. well that does as OF NOW LOOK rough.
but I still see this storm trending back east, yea it not going to be as strong as of NOW, but s/se ky still has a shot at some DECENT snow if the trend works out.
so I will wait myself, cause I am not sold on a TOTAL MISS.
he 6 plus inches would be ok too.
I hope you’re right rolo.
some interesting maps, articles on the upcoming storm..but at this point you really dont know what to think about it..Im hoping for a westward trend to at least give us some snow here in eastern ky.
http://www.accuweather.com/
Sorry for seeming happy, but wrong time for winters to change to old school- right after a new-school ice storm- again.
Accept our weather and if you live in central KY, invest in a propane fireplace- I know we are!!!!! š
Yes it will! No it won’t! Yes it will! No it won’t! GEEZ! Let’s stick to the Kentucky weather mantra: it might.
Is there a plain language reason for the sudden major shift??
and some VERY GOOD VIDEO
Don’t you mean trend back west
I’m a first time blogger.I was wondering how a storm that doesn’t even exist yet, can be tracked? Can someone please expain this. I really enjoy ALL the comments by each and every blogger. Thanks
NO disrespect intended Wxman, but, YOU have had some winter to be tired of…while we have had a lot of cold miserable rain to contend with….I guess that is just the way the snowball flies, though.
unless we get a westward trend SE KY will get what they have all season absolutely nothing may find some flurries and if its just gonna be an inch or 2 don’t waste time telling me about it
The NWS in Jackson is still giving extreme SE Kentucky a chance for accumulating snow for Monday-Wednesday. Benham in Harlan County @ 5-7 inches.
Extreme SE KY gets snow. Snow lovers in the North and west KY also get snow quite often. In between……SUMMERset cold a– rain capital of the world!!!!
ummm…where are you getting that info. at ive checked the forecast for there and it doesnt say anything about 5-7 inches…just 70% snow for mon. tue.
Anymore, winter in most of KY (except the north) only lasts for a few days at a time, and in recent winters, never more than 2-3 weeks total when adding all the days up. Winter in KY has become synonymous with cold rainy, cloudy, and dreary, with the occasional warm day thrown in for good measure.
I do believe that KY weather has become some of the most BORING in the country, if not the world! In summer it rarely ever gets very hot, we don’t really get that much severe weather in spring, in fall its usually warm and sunny, and in winter just cold and rainy or dry!
Its all in the math. The computers take the current conditions and mathematically render a possible track.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m relieved in a weird way. This was not a deep snow but this was a HUGE storm with 2.5 inches of liquid/snow all at freezing or below. Cold/cloudy/wintery outside and I’m kind of SICK of it. If a storm hits, I hope the guys get it that missed out on it this last time (not ice).
In the FEB 98 dusting. I specifically remember being at work in Lexington listening to 104.5 the cat. I think it was around 7 pm before the snow started at 11 pm and hearing them say a winter storm warning had been issued for EXTREME southeast KY. For the rest of us, very little if anything! Four hours later, it was like a blizzard! Funny how this is the EXACT same time frame though.
If these computer models are no more consistent than this when an event is 4-5 days off, why do the programmers even run the models? I could throw darts at a board full of temperature & precip combinations and do about as well as the models.
And knowing that, why on earth do so many of the TV people run their mouths about how catastrophic it will be? This blog is not for the average forecast consumer. It should only be read by people who understand that it contains a lot of speculation from both Chris and the computers. As Chris always notes, until we’re a couple days out, take everything with a grain of salt.
No disrespect intended, Coffeelady, but winter weather doesn’t always mean a nice, fluffy white snow. For many it was and is a simple misery (ICE)–no water, no electricity…nothing. If that’s what you want is winter weather, hope for the good stuff ONLY! Otherwise, stay tropical as Tim has stated, which I am happy as the chance for a big storm has lessened. It’s not a good feeling to go through at all, especially when you start stinkin’! š As I am sure it isn’t for others who are around you while you are.
Hey all, after all the predicting, forecasting, computer model runs, math equations are all said and done, GOD is still in control. So if GOD says we will get snow we will, If HE says we won’t we won’t. It’s all HIS call.
I’m with Rolo. Not ready to give up on this one yet. The mets at Accu don’t buy the eastern shifts completely. Their maps still give me hope that here in SE Ky. we may get it yet. Gotta cling!
Well i am officially calling winter over for SE KY bring on the 70-100 degree temps. I don’t ever remember there ever being a time when i have not seen measurable snow first time for everything i guess.
Even a couple of days out is no sure thing in KY. The models for the ice storm last week were showing some pretty good snows for most of the state (well, all except Southern/Southeast Kentucky)two days out. We seen how that worked out. In KY unless its actually happening outside at the exact moment, who knows what will take place? I would hate to be a forecaster for the area.
Andy, I don’t know when the last time we really had a snow worth measuring here. We ended up with 2 inches in last year’s monster event. The one good thing is that the tropics down here do a good job of keeping away the ice. I’ve had enough rain, enough cold dry weather, enough near misses, I too am ready for the shorts and flip-flops.
Yup, 3 days with no water a couple weeks ago here due to frozen pipes…then it warms up a little and we get slammed with this ice storm and my maple trees are toast. I’m just tired of it now, and I’m looking forward to Spring t-storms and warm air.
LOL….all you can do is laugh, just set back and start reading top to bottom and all you can do is either laugh or cry…I choice to laugh!!!
OH and by the way…IM STILL DREAMIN!!! SO DONT WAKE ME UP !!! š
I agree with BF. IT is all in God’s control. Maybe HE is thinking that since so many here in the state are suffering, now might not be a good time to send the snow we have prayed for in our part of the state. Either way, it will do what it will do, and we can’t change that, so we will have to live with it. Again, as I have said many times before, its a good thing we are NOT in control of the weather.
After saying that, though, I must say this….I had not gotten my hopes up, but I have to think that with two missed chances in just over a week for us here in suthern and southeastern KY….I will borrow an old line from Hee Haw. “IF it weren’t for bad luck, we’d have no luck a’tall.” š ~BIG sigh~
Weather forecasting as I understand it (and I’m certainly NOT a meteorologist!), is not an exact science. It seems like it would be nearly impossible for a computer to incorporate so many variables in a mathmatical model.
It’s amazing our forecasters do as well as they do – I really think forecasting is a bit of an art form!
One thing that IS for certain about KY weather – it will always keep us guessing! lol!
I kind of cheat. I look at the hourly weather forecast and get a basic number from what they have at the botom…example…1.6, 1.8, .7…etc.
If you add that up it’s right at seven inches.
JKL says threat is over for big snow for eastern KY. still a couple inches possible. Check it out
http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=JKL&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1
I’ve only worked one day since Jan 13, and that was Jan 23. To be honest, I don’t even remember what my last class discussions were about due to all the chaos.
I just hope my students are warm, or atleast, not going without food. I’m praying they are all okay. We can get back to learning later. Right now, though, it’s survival for many. With the “hollers” in eastern KY, they may be forever!! Thanks for understanding, WXman. Hopefully, spring will spring sooner than later. Have a good evening, and sorry about the maples, too.
Instead of a Super Bowl Party on Sunday, I’m having a No Snow Storm Party! (Of course, that may be in the dark. Who’s bring the light? Not beer either…lol
Latest NAM shifted further WEST.
At least you didn’t get ice, Coffelady. Be thankful to God for that. Winter isn’t over. Heck, there’s still a few days of morning waffles of the maps before it is all truly said and done anyway. That’s when you can poor the syrup on.
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/nam/18/images/nam_pcp_078m.gif
Hope?

***Really pretty snow flurries here in Corbin!***
At least its not rain š
I’m just hoping all my students are safe, warm, and fed. Learning can happen later once this mess is over. Sorry about the maples. Perhaps we could use those maples for syrup to go with these waffles. LOL Had to say that. Sorry!
The new NAM says… “NOT SO FAST, MY FRIENDS”!
Time,
It’s okay to dream. I had a dream about two weeks ago that there would be no school. Woke up only to realize that I was dreaming. Went back to sleep and two hours later, I got up to see it snowing outside and sure enough, there was no school. Dream baby, dream.
that’s something to look forward to maybe the rest of those maples get taken out. Becareful wishing for t storms
wowa weea. I didnt know that would make a real smiley face!
Im getting a kick out of the smallest things these days….
not yet anyway. Chris JKL admitted they got toasted with their temps in their discussion..lol figured you would appreciate that..lol
does that mean the big one may still get here in southeastern ky? oh please just one.
more salt in the wounds ole buddy ? š
not likely sorry kid
Nevermind…they’ve already changed this. Wow…being a weather forcaster must be a truly feast or famine profession.
Dude, You’re going to be on air in less than an hour. How do you have time for this? Iguess that’s why Chris is DA MAN! I’ll be watching WSAZ at 5 and 5:30, then MYZ at 10! I promise I’m mot advertising. The reason I can watch right now? I escaped the iced down trees and headed to one of the TRI-STATE’S NEWS LEADERS in CHarleston…WSAZ! LOL š
Henry M at Accucrack just updated his post. He says the eastward trend is bogus, and things will shift back to the west.He thinks the low will track from NOLA to the ATL to Charlotte and northward. That would mean lots of snow for KY.
he’s like a cornerback in one one one coverage–on an island. We’ll see. Hope for some and dread for some.
folks CB always said dont take a KNEE JERK REACTION,
THE FACT IS THE MODELS AGREE YESTERDAY, TODAY THEY DONT.
TRUSDT ME THAT BIG OF A STORM JUST DOESNT DISSAPPEAR LIKE THAT.
ITS TIME!!!
I feel very good about this still for se/e ky.
I cant believe so many have ALREADY JUMP SHIP, meaning forcasters.
really.
well im not a forcaster so I will go down with the ship!!lol
I still fell very good about some significant snow for SE/E KY!!!!
http://www.accuweather.com/mt-news-blogs.asp?partner=accuweather&blog=Meteomadness&pgurl=/mtweb/content/Meteomadness/archives/2009/01/stop_the_model_nonsense.asp
I’m more confused than ever now! I think I’m going to go to sleep until Monday and wake up and look out… That will be 100% accurate!
How much snow should the mountainous areas of Pike Co get through Thursday? I know it’s early but just an educated guess.
AMEN!!!!!
I can’t stay away from this blog. I know I shouldn’t hope for snow as many Kentuckians have it so bad right now….but I can’t help myself!
I am just off a conference call with the NWS… Most of it was about weather conditions this weekend. They did talk about Monday’s system in that even if it did shift back to the west, the heaviest snow would still be east of us but there is still a chance for snow on Monday. Kevin jumped in and said he is not convinced that it is going as far east as the earlier runs and the 18Z NAM has shown a slight westward shift.
Cap
Tom Skilling of WGN has also said the models are notorious for trying to take these type of systems too far east so he said there is still a chance for the storm to track west of the mountains….stay tuned.
Chris is a cold cruel man. Poor Tim in the tropics, I feel for you buddy. This is a tease in the worst sense of the word.
Anybody seen Vinny?
Hey Tim……..How do you like snow flurries with sun out stuff? looking out One window in my house, flurries. The other beautiful sunny skies!
some maps from accuweather

http://www.accuweather.com/news-story.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&article=1
Chris! You are killing us with this! I am still not getting my hopes up yet.
I have to see what is happening on sunday evening (not talking Super Bowl here, either š ) and what you have to say for Monday at that time.
And as lily wrote….I know it is bad to hope for snow w3hen so many are hurting, but, I can’t help myself either.
Hopefully an update coming before late night, Chris? A crumb, perhaps, bigger than the one you just threw out?
I told you all DONT WAKE ME UP JUST YET!!! IM SEEING CHRIS AND A SNOWSTORM AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL…WAIT A MINUTE!!! THERE IS HENRY MARGUISITY AND WHAT? WHATS THAT? YES HE IS SAYING EASTWARD TREND IS HOGWASH!!!!!!!!!..HEAVY SNOW FOR EAST TN, KY, WVA., PA…SEE I’M ALMOST READY TO WAKE UP..BUT NOT JUST YET, MAN THIS IS ONE HECK OF A DREAM…I JUST HOPE I DONT HAVE HEART FAILURE BEFORE ITS OVER!!!!…..
Today’s song, given the state of the models.
“GO WEST” by the village people
ITS TIME!!!!
TREND BABY TREND!!!!
Hey Rolo, I’m inclined to agree with you about this storm. I just hope that it doesn’t cause ANY power outages!
just as model runs start the trend back the nws lowers the snow on tue from 70% to 40% …so will we go back the other way now??? well let me see if I can see that in this wild DREAM!!!
18Z GFS keeps it way out to sea.
I foresee everyone jumping back on board sometime tonight. lol
What I find amusing is that both stories were updated on the same day, at the same time, by the same author, and each one takes an opposite view.
Talk about covering all your bases!
Who knows? We will see Monday I guess.
This is how science works. Predict, test, refine, rinse & repeat.
Just because a model doesn’t verify doesn’t mean it’s a failure, it just means you now have more data to make it better, or make a new one.
that is the 12z still
What are you talking about? This is twice I’ve seen a comment like this.
I’m looking at the 18Z.
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/18/images/gfs_pcp_096l.gif
Here you go Kid since everybody apparently is wrong when they post info on the new run look for yourself
I am now at day 4 without electricity, and it is no fun. I don’t know when I will have any yet because the tree that fell on the house pulled all the wires out. It also ripped off shingles and roofing, gutter, and left me with a nice little hole. I had to pay $150 to get someone to cut the tree up and get it off the roof, the electric company will have to clear what is on the wire. Otherwise, I am okay. Thanks to all of my friends here who expressed their concern, I appreciate it! I am going nuts without being able to access the blog, I can tell you! I have been going to my daughter’s so I can get on and check the weather, but I always have to go back home and keep the fire going. I’ll check back tomorrow, everyone stay safe and take care.
won’t be me if i jump on board it will have to be in the AM gott ago back to work
Unfreakin believable… My Tv- internet went out last night, I went to bed dreaming of the big one.. Internet- TV came back on a few minutes ago and this is what greets me!!!!!! You have got to be kidding me.
This whole model thing is starting to tick me off, I mean seriously, why even look at them if they can and will waffle that rapidly.. How can there be that big of a difference in less than 24 hours??What was the scientific reason that models decided to put that many miles on the thing.?
Oh well i’m just rambling now i’ll shut up and try to quit abusing myself with Model madness!
Rhonda
If you are still on, did you see my offer to help? It was a comment I made on a couple of posts back!
Just watched Meck and he pretty much just threw up his hands and said he didn’t know what was going to happen..
EASY GUYS…the gfs hasnt caught on yet, its playing stupid again…
REMEMBER BEFORE LAST STORM GFS WAS OUT TO LUNCH, BEFORE IT GOT BACK ON TRACK. REMEMBER THE STUPID POST BY CB.
WELL I DONT WANT TO SEE THE GFS TILL SAY SAT NITE SUNDAY MORNING.
ITS TIME!!!
Chris is even teasing the WSAZ audience, so I guess we shall wait and see.
great minds think alike rolo…LOL..LOL…
My computer is slower to load the updated models up so I do not usually get the new ones till 5:45
DAMN SKIPPY TIM!!!
that is something that we thought of that at same time!!522.WOOOOOOOOOOOO
OLD SCHOOL NOT OUT ON WINTER BREAK JUST YET….
What is he saying?
Something to the effect, if it were to trend west, big snow…east…not so much…yadayadaya. Stay tuned tonight for the latest. Gotta love it. Making me think, though, he’s not really teasing…he’s just as puzzled as others based on the models maybe. He was smiling, so MAYBE something to uncover????
well that doesn’t mean everybody’s is but twice you have told people they were looking at wrong maps
He just said POSSIBLE winter storm a moment or so ago. THat means for those of you wanting snow, well, it’s still POSSIBLE. lol š At least he didn’t say NO WAY!
Chris said on saz. that it all depends on the cold front moving in late sunday into monday. Depending on how far east this front makes it will depend on where the storm will go..what we want is the front to check up along the mnts…
Rhonda B I’m so sorry! I’ve continued to keep you in my prayers. We all have to stick together here in times of crisis. I wish there was something else I could do. If there was I certainly would!
I had’nt even noticed the time..LOL..LOL….NOW THATS PLUM SCARY>..:P
I called for ice last week when snow was the theme. The waa showed a trend north and all southerly events have been mainly ice for the past 11 years. The ones that were snow missed KY.
just watched Chris on live feed WSAZ, I miss him on my TV. He is so normal, does that make sense? I got at least 6-7 inches on the ground and an ice base making my walks difficult. it has been snowing all day here.
If you are a KU customer, the power company won’t touch your house until you hire an electrician to repair your masthead (electrical connection). I’m sure other power companies have the same policy.
Marti, no, I didn’t see your post. I am really lost because I don’t have time to go back and read all the others…the only reason I happened to check again before I left is because it’s snowing outside here at Thelma where my daughter lives. Thank you so much, I may have to take you up on that offer. Feederband, I don’t think the masthead is damaged, but I will know more when the electric company assesses the damage…which they haven’t had time to do yet. I know they are working very hard to help us, but so many were without power!
Patty, Susan, everyone, thanks for your prayers…keep me there! Bless you all.

In theory…… the more data and the closer in is exponentialy more “accuarate” than data the day before. More so in a four day window, since the weight should- in theory- be more accurate for each day to the event. This why- in theory- today’s models would top yesterday’s.
That all said, I have stated over the years that most models are too complex and are too jumpy with data runs.
No problem…I go to church in Prestonsburg, and we have a men’s group that often helps in cases like this. If you needed some things done (especially to prepare for the possible storm next week), I would check on that for you. Also, my husband and I will do what we can!
KP sums it up well.
Heres tg thoughts which he thinks accum snow for central and east ky still very possible
At this point it still looks favorable for some accumulating snow here in the bluegrass and points eastward Monday/Tuesday as the north/northwest flow, cold air, and spokes of energy will all be firmly in placeā¦the question is whether the data trends back our way over the weekend.
One word of caution from my endā¦The GFS for example has a southeast bias to begin with and is typically bad about going eastward in the 3-5 day range out from game time. Iād be surprised if it didnāt come back this way a bit through the weekend. The 12z runs of the Euro and Canadian were both a little bit west of the previous runs, and the new 18z NAM really tries to hold some good moisture back into Eastern Kentucky in the cold air. Given the fact that this area is close to being in a more favorable position againā¦my advice would be to just keep an eye on the progression over the course of the weekend.
I had some nice dialogue with the folks in Jackson on a conference call todayā¦my concern was fully jumping off ship given that we are heading into a weekendā¦when most folks ācheck outā mentality so my fear was if everything trends back to the westā¦then folks could be caught off guard into early next week. I do understand their position thoughā¦they donāt have the luxury of having a āriverboat gamblerā mentality with this stuff so when the data fully supports a particular solution then they have no choice but to go with the trend in their forecast. Againā¦I think we see some snow into early next week, to go along with cold and some windā¦just how much remains to be seen.

TG thoughts are central ky and east will still get accum
Bless your heart, Rhonda:) As I’ve stated before, this is the first time in 20 yrs.of living here on our street that we’ve not lost electricity due to even a stiff breeze, while everyone else in the subdivision on City/KU elec. has been out since 9pm Monday, and I thank God above each hour we still have heat,a way to cook, washclothing, etc..no cable, but hey..DVD player works!;)- Earlier Iwalked out back and found a neighbors’ tree limb had taken out a line which was lying in our backyard- City crews were here within the hour to cut limbs and disconnect the wire (which WAS actually still “alive”!!??-OMG!-my dogs have been playing around that limb/line since Monday evening whenever we let them outdoors!!?) They say that parts of NelsonCo. will be w/o power until at least late next week, even with extra manpower from neighboring counties and states, and county-wide, we can forget about the Super Bowl entirely…most ppl that have a “dish” are out as well…
You were very LUCKY to actually find someone to remove the tree for such littlemoney, even tho it seems to be an enormous amt. for you…tree trimmers have been patrolling our area since yesterday and the cheapest one charged our next door neighbor $375 to get one limb off his garage/truck-but they did at least haul off the wood, too. Most do not here, even if it’s not an emergency situation. Last summer our cheapest estimate to trim a big limb hanging over our roof was $750-we dispose of the wood-while everyone else was getting their whole big trees topped out for $900-950 inc. “haul-away”-but we don’t have to worry about it no more…the ice got it early Tuesday AM…it twisted towards an Easterly direction and only took out a bush and my bird feeder pole…andit broke in small pieces while falling, so we didn’t have to even find a saw to remove it!:) We do have an ominous-looking ‘branch’ sticking straight up out of the roof, tho…we’re praying that it’s just part of a limb and stuck solely in ice and NOT impaled thru the roof…”Farm Bureau”canbe real weenies when it comes to claims..our neighbors’ home burned down last July, and they dropped them…because of a dryer fire and the VFD took all of 26 minutes to get someone here because they don’t keep anyone at the station during the overnite hours…duhhh…
