Good Thursday evening folks. I wanted to drop by for yet another update for you as wicked period of winter weather rolls on. Before we get to a quick update on the winter storm threat for next week… let’s talk about the light snow that will break out later this evening and continue into Friday.
Radar is beginning to pick up on some snow bands developing to our northwest. These will sink toward the southeast as they increase….
This continues to look like a system that can put down an inch or two of snow through Friday. This will be enough to cause slick travel and will put even more strain on our trees and power lines that remain caked in ice.
Temps tonight will be in the low 20s and will recover into the mid 20s early Friday before dropping into the teens by early evening. Some single digit lows will be possible by Saturday morning.
The weekend will see a quick surge of normal air moving in. The nose of this milder air can produce another batch of snow showers later Saturday. Winds will kick up as well with temps hitting the 40s Sunday. Areas with an extensive snow and ice pack will see their temps struggle to get to 40. Sunday is our only hope to melt some of the ice before our next storm moves in by Monday.
WINTER STORM THREAT continues for Monday- Wednesday of next week and an upgrade to ALERT status may come as early As Friday as confidence increases that a MAJOR snowstorm is poised to slam the state.
Here is a dose of some of the newer model maps…
European Model Monday Morning
Tuesday Morning
Wednesday Morning
GFS Monday Afternoon
Monday Evening
The GFS continues to suffer from convective feedback issues along the Gulf which hurts the models initial placement and strength of the low and this in turn cuts down on precip totals. The GFS is still spitting out close to 1″ of liquid precip. Some of the other models are showing closer to 2″ of precip. If 1 inch of rain usually equals 10 inches of snow… well… you do the math. That does not mean they are right though with the precip totals!
This will be a deepening storm that will also bring a lot of wind with it and before all is said and done… it can easily turn into a blizzard. Will it do that when it is on top of us? Way to early to tell at this point.
It has been amazing to watch EVERY model show this storm in similar fashion. This, combined with the overall pattern favoring something like this, is why my confidence level is very high right now. But… I would expect the models to waffle a bit here over the next day or so. It is almost impossible to have a model run or two not get a little kooky on us.
By the way… GREAT extended forecast discussions from the NWS folks today. Our buddy MJ in Louisville and Mr. Greif down in Jackson broke it all down in their usual fine fashion! Kudos guys. Maybe we can get them to drop us some thoughts here on the blog?
I will have another update coming your way later tonight so be sure to check back.
Take care.
Does anyone know if this little batch of snow tonight will dip down into Pike Co? I’m thinking not but I can’t read all these maps like you guys can….just wondering if I’ll have to teach tomorrow…I swear working Wednesday and Thursday (2 days in a row) has nearly killed me!! LOL j/k
Thanks Chris. Looking pretty good right now. And interested to see your thoughts, and those of Mitch, Wxman, and MJ, too. I hope it gets us good, especially those of is who endured all the rain in the past one.
Keep us posted, and, thanks again for all the hard work you do here.
So the gfs is shorting the precip???? wow, we could see 2 feet, because this snow should have 15 to 1 ratios…….. I wonder when the first watches will come out…. Rolo, you more excited now, or the same?
Adam, I think Rolo will be excited, and he will certainly tell us his thoughts.
BubbaG, I sure hope you get your power back up soon, as well as everyone. I miss the comments!
Tim, don’t fly away yet! We are not there yet. Four days out…..but it is still a better looking chance than any of us have seen in these parts! ;D
Lots of “DOUBTING THOMASES” here in Morgan County. I tell them about our blog and they snort and say Bill, TG, or JJ didn’t say anything other than the standard “We’re keeping an eye out” or “Next week could get interesting.”
I am still in amazement at the Special Weather Statement issued by NWS Jackson at 4:50pm. They mention the possibility of “OVER half a foot of snow.” I honestly don’t know that I’ve seen them this enthusiastic about snow this far out, atleast not in the almost 9 years I’ve lived here. I’m trying not to get TOO excited…but I’m failing miserably! LOL!
anderson co. think theres a chance at good snow tg said lxington eastward but i still think 6-10 in is in reach
i know ill be like its suppose to snow tommorow theyll say no its not no one mentioned it in the news and then it always does chris and tg are the best at their jobs
this thing will shift westward a little bit which will give most of the state a good snow
Thanks Chris…when you have a lot of model agreement this far out and when you have the NWS talking about a foot of snow, then this equals a VERY historic storm.
Just remmeber folks we had a storm that was suppose to spit out 6-8 inches of snow and had a winter storm warning but ended up with only 2 inches here in the corner lets not try to get our hopes up to much just yet
special weather statements will be likely everywhere tommorow all the way to louisville
Thank goodness someone else can’t read these maps! I have no idea what info they are giving so I just wait for Chris to let me know what’s going on. I will say the European one is quite pretty though! Hope you get enough snow tonight so you don’t have to teach tomorrow 🙂
i am not sold yet on this system the fact is while no model shows a west of the apps track we should be seeing one here over the next day or so, i mean two maajor winter storms back to back just seems so unlikely in this region, hope i am wrong we need a big snow in lex
Lincoln, that was before the new models, newest ones show WEST ky and east, it is looking good.
belski said models are trending west with 1.25 in of pecip showing lets see how this pans out no doubt major snowstorm. Ithink most of area will get more than a foot
Tell the gfs that lol…
tommy storm will trend west but not enough to make a diff in totals will just make totals more widespread so its better for everyone!!!
are we still in for that february heat wave a lot of people were talking about?
just remember that we had a storm that was A “DUSTING” anderson co. got 23 in. back in 1998
JB has his 14 day out w/ 60’s on Feb. 12th..I really don’t see this hapenning, but whatever…!!;)
Chastity,
Did you not live in E.B. when the big storm hit in ’93? Only way to get around was a BIG 4-wheel drive (those little S10 four-wheel drives didn’t cut it) or let the National Guard come and get you. It was horrible and London and E.B. were shut completely down. If this happens multiply Monday’s Walmart panic times three. One good thing came out of that storm for me, ten months later my daughter was born. LOL!
lol i know i saw that an was thinking what an idiot! lol but you never know
So…for snow lovers like me…do we want the low to track more west or east?…and how much snow could we get out of this…some of the models on the blog show like 6 inches but some of you all are talking about lots more!
I hope it all stays east of Lex. I’ve had it with snow and ice for the year.
Would be okay if the STATE HWY dept. new where my road is. Yesterday slush today its a hockey rink. No kidding to many pine trees close to the house. I don’t need any more stress on them or me.
Debbie wrote:
Maybe this is a really STOOPID question, but here goes???! lol..(and I would prefer it to be answered by someone that has actual knowledge of the event, please??!)
This 1993 “Superstorm”…OK..I know it was a humongous storm that wreaked havoc along the East Coast and points inland..but after that, I am completely LOST??! Maybe because everyone east of me here in Bardstown/Nelson Co. got something significant, and I didn’t??! Ijust do not recall anything that MAJOR hapenning in ’93..January 94 and after, yes…not 1993…
Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me!
(**It should also be said that I had a rare blood clot that hit my Aorta in 02, shocked back to life 3 times, and perhaps my memory gets foggy..NOT OFTEN,tho..lol!)
(BTW) I posted this a few min’s ago on the wrong blog post..lol…I had to go out and run off idiot kids throwing snow and ice @ my neighbors’ new truck..I hate living in a subdivision…plus the little farts all congregate in OUR YARD and mess up my landscaping and upset my dogs the very sec. I get my little one settled down and quiet..GRRR!)
well if your in east ky you want it to stay where its looking right now but since thats highly unlikely oh well central ky you want it to go west a tad to up your totals at the moment if it goes west 100 miles we could see higher snow totals where i live in anderson co. there talking higher totals cause gfs isnt taking enough moisture which it is likely a run will show up with 1.5 to 2 in. of precip withing the next 3 days that is 15 in to 20 in. of snow. will that happen its very possible keep in mind it will either be snow or it will be rain theyre is not ice in this one!
Deb, I didn’t move here until mid-2000. People in London are already talking about this storm so I’d say Wal-Mart will be packed this weekend. Thank goodness I work early shifts all weekend!!
That’s too cute that you ended up with a snowbaby. 😉
what a life youve lived …Lucky i wish i could be shocked back to life gosh!lol
i hope so, i just hate to get worked up and dissapointed i’d rather take 3-6 and run that roll the dice for what looks to be a potenital snow monster and loose everything if i was currently given the choice to take 3-6 or roll the dice with a 50/50 probabilty on getting 15”+ i’d take the 3-6 because this may end up being a snow for illinois and indiana leaving ky at 35 with rain…if by early saturday models continue to show a snow event i will bite, as of now it looks promising
Debbie,
In 1993 we got hit with 22 inches of snow here in London. The whole state got hit bad, actually. Everything was pretty much at a stand-still around here. In 1994 we got a 10 inch snowstorm in London in January and a terrible ice storm that left us without power for over a week in February. That’s probably why you remember ’94 better. That winter was full of wicked weather. My daughter was only a few weeks old in 94’s ice storm and I remember heating her bottles on a camping stove and using a kerosene heater to keep us warm. It was a doozy storm.
i doubt it does and i think you doubt it to but looks like ice will melt sunday take stress away. Now your road if you have a 4 wheeler get a plow that always helps!
Oh, and if memory serves me correctly, that storm in ’93 was in March. I want to think it was during March Madness and the Cats were playing.
ill get worked up for you!!! i know what you mean id rather take 3-6 guranteed than roll the dice but unfortunatley weather doesnt work that way. A few post ago i said ill take this ice storm if i can get a foot or more snow storm now theres a chance at that being a possibility
i remember the blizzard of 93 like it was yesterday it was amazing i was 13 years ole and sat at the window allday watching the snow fall lol i loved it i hope we get that again would be great.
Sweet 93 storm here in Lawrence County we had snow ranges from just over 30 inches to around 36 inches in the northern part of the county. Now that was a nice storm. But if memory serves correctly I don’t think West Ky was hit nearly as hard.
I was heavly involved in emergency services then so I got to play alot only problem was I only had a few hours sleep over a four day period. The military hum V’s go well in sand and snow unless you hit a drift then there dead in the water as well.
With a Negatively tilted trough axis this storm will not run the west side of the Mountains, as long as the trough starts heading back up on the east side of the mountains it will remain on the east side of the mountains.
I believe it was like March 14,15 and 16 or something like started out only going to be 1-3 here in Lawrence County but that just continued to grow as Friday night and Saturday rolled on.
tommy if ITS TIME!!! IT DONT MATTER HOW MANY STORMS move over same strip.
if ITS TIME!!
I tell ya GOD jumps up and reminds everyone of his power evernow and then, and FOLKS THIS is onw of them times.
ANOTHER STORM will be DISASTER X 10 for areas already with the ICE problems.
I have been waiting on that GAME CHANGER, and see such a POWERFUL looking system right on the heels of one, THAT LOOKA THE PART OF A TRUE OLD SCHOOL position and movement.
yea TOMMY IF ITS TIME!! it will happen, no matter how much distruction that comes with it.
oh well GODSPEED and remember ur breathing so all is NOT LOST.
that to u all that have seen the problems last few days.
but ITS TIME!!!
So…What is the probability that the low starts up the east side and remains there opposed to running up the west side?
And will this still give us huge snows in Northeastern Ky? Or for that matter all of Central and Eastern Ky…
I found some good info on Kentucky about the ’93 storm. Should be an interesting read for you.
http://kyclim.wku.edu/factSheets/blizzard.htm
Amen rolo gonna happen either way we can wish either way we want wishing doesn’t change a thing all we can do is be prepared
Rolo,
I have been reading this blog for a long time you hit the storms pretty good but this one is still four days out. Do you think it a little early to pull the trigger on a BIG ONE. If it is going to be that big I bet your goat is going crazy.LOL
I remember the blizzard of 93 too! I was also 13 and my cousins and I did some serious intertubing!!!! The little bit of snow that melted during the day would freeze back at night and make a very fast trail for us down the hill and through the yard!
I would say right now it’s about 70% chance it runs the east side of teh apps, which would bring 10″s + snow to most of the folks living east of I-75, even higher the closer to the boarder of the 2 Virgina’s you get.
If this thing goes up the west side of the mountains, this will be a blizzard for the folks on the I-65 corridor, and the folks in Eastern KY get the most spited rain of the decade.
I was so happy to find this blog today. I remembered when Chris left the station he was talking about starting this site. I thought about that today with the threat of “the big one” to google for him. Its nice to see alot of the people from the old blog to. Thanks for the great site Chris and I’m looking forward to something beside rain here in Williamsburg.
People in Madison County are crippled with power outages. This next storm is one storm that I am not wishing for. We’re lucky to have electricity, but so many do not. Keep your ears open people. You just might find that your neighbors have no food — or no way to prepare it. Help if you can — please. 🙂
If I am not mistaken, there were 2 different storms. I was 17 at the time and STUCK in the house with Mom and Brother for DAYS AND DAYS. Seemed like an eternity to a 17 year old. 🙂
I remember recovering from one HUGE storm and then getting dumped on by another that crippled the northern part of Ky. We could not leave the house for days. The doors were snowed in. We literally could not go outside if we wanted to.
Not a good memory. School was out for WEEKS.
It does not matter where the low tracks it will be cold enough for snow Shane.
can anyone tell me if it looks like london, lily and corbin will be in for some snow with this system that’s coming in next week? it seems like we are always left out on the snow. thanks anyone for taking the time to give me some information.
If this thing tracks west of the mountains, and say the center of Low pressure goes straight up I-75, it will be warm enough from rain due to warm air advection in front of the system, Western KY would get the blizzard, I-75 to the east would get rain changing to snow on the systems departure. Do I think that’s going to happen no, but if you want a good snow anywhere east of I-75, you want this thing on the east side of the mountains.
I’ll NEVER forget the storm of ’93…..I was stuck in the house with my then EX-husband……talk about a STORM!!!!!!!!
Anyone know if EKU’s website is down from the storm or its just my computer?
Im thinking about going to get water for my sons bottles tomorrow,,,,(just in case) and extra formula and maybe a bottle warmer you can use in the car.
ew,,,,,and batteries for my camera!!!
Rolo, I never did get to see your prediction for this one. WHere can I find that?
Is this storm gonna include Corbin this time?
They are already talking about the potential for the storm in Louisville but they aren’t as confident as NWS Jackson is yet!
everyone will….
yea as of now i am cautiously excited, this looks promising, i think even areas like lousiville and bowling green will see plenty of snow out of this the way its looking the blizzard zone would be east of i65, qfp is impressive 1-2 WOW
hey BILLY G is a smart GOAT.
now yes it 4 days out, but the LEGEND last post says alot talking bout models.
also if I worked for any of the local TV station I would be sayin the same thing, WHY HOLD BACK.
yea u might BLOW IT, but show the excitement, show ur love of it and say what ur thinking.
u know LIKE the LEGEND does here.
I am that confident of a GIRAFFE HUGGER come early next week.
I think their site is down. I tried going to http://www.eku.edu and got no response.
Can someone please breakdown the color chart for these maps. I used to have it but lost it.
Thanks
I’m glad you’ll be working early shifts, too. I plan to stay as far away from Walmart as possible this weekend because I know it will be a madhouse. Probably should go get my supplies Friday morning and beat the rush.
Your in the Prime place for this… as it stands now…things can change
Laura I run a blog focusing on london weather. Click my name to get to it.
Thanx to all that answered my question about the ’93 storm…I HONESTLY do not recall it at all, but because it seems to be more of an ‘Eastern KY” storm, that’s probably why!:) As I alluded to-I can def remember the Jan 16,94 storm, and I can remember a few things prior to that one, weather-wise, but it probably was just a case of “Eh, we didn’t get much of nuthin’ here in town, soooo…??!” 😉
I am hoping thisnext one will trend more West, but not TOO MUCH?- that way, ALL of us can get in on some “SNOW LOVE”??! I sure don’t want anymore ICE! This has been a real bugger for most of KY. in historic preportions…I still have power (never went off..I’m still in shock..lol)Let’s all hope that this next weeks’ storm will dump on us, but do it in a GOOD way!!!:)
The 1993 Superstorm was during the SEC Tournament in Lexington. UK with Jamal Mashburn beat UT with Allan Houston 101 to 40 if I remeber correctly. We also beat the Arkansas Razorbacks by 92-81 in the semi-final on Saturday. In the final we beat LSU 82-65. It was bad in Lexington, but not nearly as bad as you progressively moved east.
thanks guys for the information, i really appreciate it.
I meant as bad as it was as you progressively moved east of Lexington. As you moved west it was much less of a problems I think westeren counties got flurries if anything.
ROLO,
Do you think we will get anything out of this system coming in tonight?
does anyone have the link to MJ’s discussions?
http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=LMK&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1
thank you
I just talked to a good friend in Johnson County and I had no Idea how bad it was there. He said that they would still be in a mess this time next week even if another snowstorm didn’t come.
the temp map or the Precip amount maps?
I’ve been wondering this very same thing! If you’re in eastern KY, you get a big storm if it goes east of apps, central KY is on the EDGE, For Louisville, the low goes west of apps to give them a good snow. So central KY gets a good snow I’m guessing if it goes right over top of the apps. LOL I don’t know
It will sweep down into pike county giving us 1/2 an inch to an inch. I don’t know if i want school tomorrow or not. Don’t want to go through June.
Welcome back Sadie! 🙂 I used to post on the WKYT blog as “Joe”. Use this name now, cause there are too many Joes lol.
Good to see you back, I remember you posting before. Its been awesome to see this community continue!
wow!
Morgan County received a measured 23″ of snow during that storm. My boxer ran outside and disappeared up past her neck….was a real wet snowball snow too….beautiful and FUN!
Chris or Mitch,
Is tonights snow mainly a northern Kentucky event? Also, as of right now, is next weeks storm supposed to start out as rain?
Wow! Things have been rough here in Johnson Co. My power came back on yesterday. I just regained broadband service tonight…I know what you all mean about the blog withdrawls! (Rolo!) There are still many here without power.
ROLO, it is interesting to hear your take on this weather system coming up. You certainly nailed the last one (much to my disappointment!):)
CHRIS — Thank you so much for this blog and all you do to keep us prepared WELL IN ADVANCE! You helped many of us get prepared for a potentially dangerous situation. YOU ARE THE MAN!!
TIM — Keep hanging in there! Your kids may never go back to school, but you may get the OLD SCHOOL SNOW you have been waiting for! 🙂
RHONDAB — Keep us posted on the situation with your house! If you need it, the men’s group at my church may be willing to help you. My church is in Prestonsburg.
ALL FELLOW BLOGGERS — I hope you made it through okay. Now let’s brace for the next hit! God bless!
Please, please, please, let it SNOW in Corbin.
I 2nd that!
0z nam is going to phase the jets take a look at this!!!http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/nam/00/images/nam_pcp_084l.gif
precit maps the real colorfull
not good
what does that mean?
What exactly does this mean????
0z nam is going to phase the jets take a look at this!!!http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/nam/00/images/nam_pcp_084l.gif
Thanks I really enjoy hearing everyones takes on the weather.
lots can happen but lol, basically cyclongenisis takes place and the deforemation zone of a synopitc low pressure gets snow by the feet right now that deformation zone looks like arkansas mississippi tennessee all of ky and a lot of indiana and ohio
This could and should be the biggest like 1998 or EVEN 1993
what is the chance of that really happening?
I’ve been trying to get on their site for a couple of days. It’s all down.
Yeah.. but according to that we are being rained on.. How long would that last?
the whole state would go to snow monday night and its on
we may start as light rain but notice how fast the 850-1000 32 line temp falls as the precip moves in, the nam only goes out 84 hours so as of now we can only see the begining of this storm, 6z will allow us to see even closer in time as time passes but this is looking like a quite westward track from what i am gathering…hopefully its along or east of the apps
I found this map just now…
http://wxcaster.com/gis-gfs-snow-overlays.php3?STATIONID=JKL
and this one…
http://wxcaster4.com/gfs/CONUS2_GFS0P5_SFC_ACCUM-SNOW_120HR.gif
WAKE ME UP !!! I KNOW THIS IS A DREAM!!!
Pretty good considering every major long range model has shown it for a few days. What it means in English GAME ON!
How much snow we talking for areas of Kentucky if that cyclogenisis thingy was to occur? We talking “B”???
yea the good ones usually start as rain, i like the look of the nam i think rain will be short lived and this things going to explode, name blows it up between 78 and 84 hours
my friend next to cyclongensis the next best thing is lake effect snow storms or rocky mtn blizzards, if some of these models verify ky,tn and oh are going to be paralyzed
Tim you crack me up lol. If anyone deserves this snow it’s you! I’m cheering you on for the big one!!! And of course, I wouldn’t mind getting in on some snow love too.
No snow neededunless everyone’s power is back o n. Not sure anyone appreciates the potential disaster here.
I hope it rains otherwise. CB is correct though, since we have 60% chance of early rain and then a real good snow and 40% chance of a biggin’. Still think E KY is sweet spot, but I thought the same in 1998 😉
This system should be so big, that a 50 mile shift in the state could still mean 10 plus inches regardless. Hard how no power and seeing families suffer sucks the fun out of this stuff. Puts it all in perspective.
I mentioned here last week that this system could make 2003 seems like a frost advisory. In relative scale, I was not far off 🙁
i am blaming the blog from here on out for any bad grades that come my way all my professors have cancelled and are giving me assingments online, thanks to the internet i can track snowstorms and do my homework thus never getting a snowday how u like them apples?
how big an ark do we need ?
i was JUST talking about the same thing. we live right by a creek that is 2 miles short of being a river. i can’t afford for it to melt fast and then snow, and then melt. this needs to be a sloooo changeover as far as temps are concerned. IMO
Sorry, meant to type “150” mile shift. This event could be a monster.
Hey Tim!! Probably not gonna get much seems everything looks fine then when it gets here its a big time bust for us. I hope and pray im wrong and we really need to break this trend and now would be the perfect time. I have to work EMS both these days so if we do get it I will have a rough day!
Hi all. Thanks Chris for your awesome work!!!! I hope all gets the power on soon.Rhonda good to hear from you I was worried.
I just spoke to my sister in Indy she got a foot of snow!!!! She said not alot of ice she hates it. i told we snow starved people in Se Ky would take it.She said the wind can just cut you to the bone!!!!!
DID SOMEONE WAKE ME UP YET!!!! IS IT OVER …DID IT HAPPEN????
Charlie Brown!!!
Deformation zone??? I’ve heard that term but not exactly sure what it means. Is that the “cold” side of the low with backlash moisture?
see if this helps. The color code is at the bottom of the screen. If you have a hard time making it out..white = 8″ and lesser amounts in green and yellow
http://wxcaster4.com/gfs/CONUS2_GFS0P5_SFC_ACCUM-SNOW_120HR.gif
deformation zone is where the big snow will be
The waffling has begun for those of you wondering. The 0z GFS has trended back east when the 18z had it further west. So it went 12z east 18z west 0z east! I definetly like the odds for central ky. No matter which way the models have shifted accumulating snow was shown for us. With such a broad area of snow 1/2 foot or more how could we miss out?! Knock on wood for saying that we will not get any snow now maybe even a severe weather outbreak!
A good friend in Johnson County? Are you from near Johnson? It is bad here in the big city, my family and I drove around this evening to find many downed trees on many two lane roads–it is bad…
00z Gfs has now taken the low way east and takes it up the coast…not a whole lot of snow with that run…but its just one run
my thoughts exactly the trend is going to give dc to boston a snowstorm, hope its wrong
same old gfs issues
1. convective feedback
2. take lows to far east
3. brings in cold to fast
4. way to week with low
How can the 0z NAM and the 0z GFS be sooooo different????
well i fear the trend is real, i mean the chance of lex getting a big snow and ice in a week is astronomically low
the only trend is that the GFS is all over the place. The UKMET, EURO, and CMC all show more inland solutions.
Shane would u please contact me ? also JKL is showing alot of rain for London so I dunno what to think anymore
Hey Chris!! We got about 4 inches of snow with an inch of ice in between!! My mom lost power for about 3 days! But she’s ok now. I don’t know how long my friends from Bardstown will get theirs restored.
And just like that …. POOF, the snow chances are GONE for Corbin and London.
I’m not seeing JKL showing alot of rain for London? This is suppose to start out as rain and change to Snow.
Snow chances are still there and strong as ever. The 00z GFS shifted it east but even with that shift (which I think is wrong) it still shows pretty snow for Corbin/London area
hmmmm….why do you think the eastward shift is wrong? The GFS does tend to trend a bit east, but are there any real reasons, other than past behavior, which would lead us to think that this storm will lean more westerly?
How far inland? Is the center over or west of the mountains or are we still east of Apps?
the gfs is hopefully lost in la la land
but most people prob dont want another storm
all solutions are still east of the app mountains… which is where you need it if you want a big snow in KY. The GFS has a bias to take these Lows to far east and then move them farther west
Shawn, I don’t know how to contact you besides this blog. I just updated my blog *Click my name* and I think we’re still on for snow from this storm next week, just a little bit of rain to start with on Monday, before it turns to all snow.
Thanks Michael. I am presently in E-Town. I see that we are relatively safe from snow with the new GFS, but the NAM may still bring us 3″. Would you agree?
everyone quit acting stupid the gfs will come back farther west it does this all the time
Folks the models are going to vary run to run, we know this , a big shift to the east of the west of 100 miles isn’t going to shock anyone right now. The important things are, the storm is still on the playing field, and it’s east of the Apps. The details will be hammered out over the weekend, just pop some pop corn, get plans to deal with a possible double digit inch snowfall ready, and sit back and enjoy the show, we’ve got you taken care of and will let you know what’s going on.
still too early with a call from NAM. It doesn’t go out that far. Its still way too early to nail down a path…if current 00z GFS verifies Etown will still get some snow. I wouldn’t take too much into this early. Main thing is that the storm is still on the table. If your wanting no snow then you’ll want to to keep trending east.
Hi,Bev!:)
I’m right behind the Courthouse here in Bardstown!!-our subdivision is divided between City/KU and RECC electric, and only about 8-10 of us here on RECC…for once in 20 yrs. I’ve lived here,we did NOT lose power..not even a “flicker”??!-Cable TV went out around 8pm Monday, electric all around us about 20 min’s later…they’re still out…from what I understand from local radio (which just got power restored around 4pm today)-They have half od “downtown” Bardstown back on, have ppl from E. KY, TN and NC ontheir way to restore all else…RECC…out of around 46,000 customers within the Nelson, Bullitt, Spencer & Washngton Counties, 39,000 lost power, but as of late this afternoon, about 9,000 in that 4-county area remained w/o power….they are trying to get it back ASAP…they’re making some dang good progress compared to Dec ’04 and the 94 storm…:) A rumor got started that the City was going to randomely cut off water supply to customers to conserve, but that’s all it was-RUMOR!- Mayor Heaton says we’re in good shape!! Cable TV is out, since about 8pm Monday…they’re more concerned w/ getting power back on than they are TV signals…
I am ust AMAZED that WE HERE have not had a power outage at ALL??! Heck-used to be, you’d walk outside and SNEEZE and the crap would be blown for a WEEK??!-As I said before-only a handful in this subdivision on RECC, and ALWAYS first to blow, last to come back on??! (LOL..Main transformer/line is in OUR backyard…every weather event, we call to report it, tell them the EXACT location, and we end up next street over guiding them over fences to our backyard…what idiots…lol)
Hello my fellow bloggers. Hope everyone is hanging in there. I have a small rental company in Paris and still have about 5 small generators (1000 watt) left. This will run a TV, heater and several lights at the same time. We have been bombarded with calls and it looks to get worse. Normally they are $25 per day but for anyone on this site, they are half off. Trust me. I am not trying to take advantage of anyone during a tough time. Just trying to help out a little and still pay my bills. Also we have propane heaters if anyone is in need. Stay Safe.
Believe it or not, even with no water and 2 of our 5 tress destroyed, I would not mind a few inches of a gentle, peaceful snowfall. I will, from this forward fear ice, but snow, that’s part of why I love winter. So, I guess I want the GFS to trend more west.
I forgot to leave you my number. The name of the company is Oasis Rentals and my number is 987-8368. Please feel free to contact me on this site or the other number. I will be checking my e-mail tonight for the company as well at oasisevent.com.
Shane, I was wondering if you know Joe or Traci Arthur from London. I think you graduated with Traci
NE Boyle County: Displaced to Mercer County. Well I made it back to my home in Boyle County(near Danville) today. Every tree is down or will have to be cut. I literally had to crawl over debris to get in the door. No structural damage luckily even though many large branches(12inch and larger)hit the roof none penetrated. I had to drive under dangling wires and leaning trees and power poles to get to my residence. Still NO POWER. I came to Harrodsburg where we had power on Tuesday and lost it here on Wednesday morning then lost water. Water back on thursday but not yet safe to drink. Hooked up a generator and now have some symbol of normal living along with kerosene heater which I hate. Its bad enough here that if another Major storm hits on Monday it would be beyond ability for folks around here to cope. BTW my F5 site continues down because of course I have no power at home. Will return there once we have POWER. Little bit of snow falling now.
Hey MP glad to see you are o.k…….it’s bad up here isn’t it!
Thx Chelle…………..yes, really bad.
Michael P.
Glad to see you still hanging tough. It is amazing to see how much we take for grantit simple things like electricity. Please make sure you let me know if anyone in your area, especially someone older is in need. I will be happy to donate a generator if you know anyone with very special needs.
WooT!!!:)
Just got an unexpected fluffy snow here in Bardstown!! (I thought it was hitting you guys east of me??) 28°…looks like about an inch or slightly less on the ice on our deck, but was coming down swiftly for a time!!:) (Had to let the outside cat outside..she’s been inside since Mon., so had to go next door to “dookie”..lol!-before you ask..yes,she uses the litter box, but she likes to go outside-either that or have my trimwork scratched all to heck?!-) She will show back up tomorrow for another 3 days’ of warmth inside…:)
I think I will make next weeks’ call now…Iam soooo tired of this ICE..?!
I think in my area (Bardstown)we might get around 8-10 snow..maybe more…you guys East of me there..??!- you’llget MORE…??!
Tim,don’t give up…I think your snow drought and Ark building days are about OVER!!!:) (Don’t give up so easily…I NEVER give up…NEVER!!??)- Nelson Co. is PATHETIC when it comes to snow…??!-in Dec 04, I was thinking a foot of snow…??!- no power for a week due to ICE, but 20 miles North…we took my MOm to L-Ville to get her paycheck…once out of Nelson County, they had a foot of snow…??!-1994..predicted snowstorm a week out..day before, “an inch or less”..next morning, Thundersnow and 16+ inches of snow within 2 hours…??!:)
NEVER GIVE UP!!!!:)
wating on chris’s update lalala lol 🙂 i still have a good feeling bout this snowstorm
I was chatting with folks as the storm started. It started really late in the southern tip of Jess co. Soon we ended up powerless. I have a special needs child who has just recovered from Pneumonia. I got up this am and called RECC they said it would be at least a few days to get my power back. I packed the kids and dog and off we headed today. Now I am at the beach!
I have been looking for a “big snow” for soooooo long, but I just can’t risk my daughters health without power. I plan to ride out the next storm here at a family condo and then head home once I know my power is stable and working…..
Lots of thoughts to others who aren’t as lucky and are older or have special needs trying to ride out the mess!
hmm did Chris nod off and forget to hit submit ?
I know both of them :).
I love all the models as I am a big weather freak and check NOAA and all others…I remember well the winters of 1977-1979 living in the DC area. Thank you for showing all the data. My feeling(early)is we will get about 8-11 inches with wind. We shall see more on Sunday, when I always make my final predictions(I even have friends call me from Maryland, as I now live in Barboursville, WV, to get their weather forecast!)Again good work Chris!
The nose of this milder air can produce another batch of snow showers later Saturday.
