Good Saturday, folks. The smell of sweet late September rain filled the air across much of the bluegrass state to start the weekend. Much needed rains fell in many areas on Friday and we have some more out there today. This is likely kicking off a rather busy weather pattern as we flip the calendar to October.
The rains out there today shouldn’t be as widespread as what we had Friday, but some heavier downpours will be possible. Highs will range from the upper 60s to low 70s depending on where you are with the showers. You will have dry times out there.
Sunday finds an isolated showers or storms possible with temps back into the 70s.
This takes us into a busy looking week of weather that starts out fairly calm on Monday. The action picks up by Tuesday as we track a couple of systems. One is a possible tropical system down in the Gulf of Mexico and another is a cold front working in from the northwest…
The system in the Gulf is fighting with itself and may split the energy. That wouldn’t bode well for any huge development. Regardless, that moisture surges northward and could very well get picked up by the cold front moving in from the northwest. Any time you have a setup like this, timing is everything.
The latest timing on the European Model shows the trough digging in and picking up this Gulf system. That allows for a deep and slow moving storm just to our east…
If that happens, it would be rather cool and damp around here for the opening few days of October…
Again, timing is everything on how all that works out. The above scenario is just one of several we will have to watch for in the coming days.
The GFS doesn’t show that much of a connection and keeps things moving along pretty quickly. It still gives us some decent showers and storms Tuesday into Wednesday with slightly cooler air to follow.
The model then goes nutso with the next system digging in late next weekend…

October has the potential to produce some very interesting weather for much of the country!
Let’s track the rains we have out there today…
Have a great day and take care.

No rain in this part of state in Western, ky. I think were I live were under a dry dome. The rain dries up before it gets here
You must live near me lol!
Chris, any chance of clouds clearing for the lunar eclipse?
Could be. Lucky for the Ines that did get rain.
Thanks Chris we had some nice soaking Rains yesterday.
Thanks Chris. We’ve had over an inch of rain at our house and it has been, for the most part, a good, soaking rain. We’ve had a couple of downpours, but not anything to cause issues. Saw your comment about the gulf system. I hope it goes on and moves as we leave for the Sunshine State next week. They’ve been having their share of rain as well. Hopefully we can have a fairly dry and uneventful week. As foe today, hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday! Go Cats!
Southeast KY is under siege again. I am over 1.50 since yesterday morning and working on a solid 2 inches right now!
