Good Tuesday, folks. Our potent storm system is kicking into high gear today into Wednesday and that means plenty of rain and gusty winds. This is one of two systems I’m tracking between now and the start of November. Wait… really? November is almost here? That’s honestly hard to believe.
Widespread rain becomes heavy at times today as winds slowly crank up. Here’s a brief rundown of what to expect:
– A line of thunderstorms is possible overnight into early Wednesday. It won’t take much to get some strong storms with high winds.
– Speaking of winds, gusts could reach 40mph at times through early tomorrow, and that doesn’t include thunderstorms.
– Rainfall totals could reach 1″-3″ from the Interstate 75 corridor and west. Locally higher amounts are possible, so watch for some small stream flooding. Farther east, totals won’t be nearly as impressive.
– Scattered showers and storms will be around late Wednesday into Wednesday night as the cold front swings in. Much colder air crashes in behind the front as it passes early Thursday…
Friday’s weather looks better with low 30s to start and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 50s. Winds will be rather gusty at times.
This bring us to Halloween and the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland in Lexington. Talk about a BIG forecast… this is it! A developing storm system in Texas will likely throw moisture our way before the weekend is over. When does this moisture arrive? That’s the million dollar question.
Obviously, we want it to come late Saturday night or Sunday. The latest European Model continues to suggestthe potential for rain sneaking in before Halloween is finished…
The greatest chance for rain comes Sunday and Monday and that could be heavy at times with temps in the 50s to open November.
Once that system moves away, temps could get pretty warm for a few days with a nice ridge of high pressure building in…
In what should be a familiar theme of November (lots of back and forth), the warmth gets wiped out by a strong cold front a few days later…
There’s some November 2002 in that setup.
I leave you with your radars for the day…
I will have another update later today. Enjoy your Tuesday and take care.
Thanks Chris. And thanks for showing the “old” radar! New is good but every time I touch it, I wind up looking at Florida or somewhere up
North! Got the waders on today. Looks like I’m going to need then for the next couple of days. Have a great Tuesday everyone. As Jay Bilias says…I gotta go to work!
Please keep the “old” radar around – I find it much more useful – like the county boundary lines and the ability to see if there will be a break in the weather over the next couple hours, since I work outside.
^ This!
Agreed:)
I also like the old radar for the simple fact that every time I scroll down the page with the mouse wheel, the radar thinks it’s more important and begins to zoom itself out after it becomes visible in the scrolling window. A little frustrating.
I too like the old radar, but I figured that was because I’m not an expert in how to read all these things. That’s why I appreciate all the comments on these posts, because I learn as much from MarkLex, MarkTenn, Israel, Bubba G and the other regulars as well as the best meteorologist in Lexington, Mr Chris Bailey. 🙂
Yes, thanks for putting the old radar up as well as the new one. I just like the old radar for looking at the precip. Plus, I don’t know if it is just a slow connection on my part or what, but I can read the whole blog and the precip. has still not loaded on the new radar, takes a long time for it to finally load.
Thanks for all of your work Chris. The new radar crashes my ipad and the blog has to reload a few times before I can see it. Other than that, excellent blog!
Please stop using the new radar. It’s useess. Now it slows down your page. The old one was perfect.
Thanks for both radars, Chris. I’m like Coffeelady, I couldn’t figure out how to work it at first but it has very cool features. It will be really neat to check out when the snow starts flying!
I am in Lexington this week for business training, and finally, I get to witness a good rain event. It seems like 90% of the time, Harlan misses the good storm events. Ha Ha Mother Nature, I have cheated you this time:)
