Good Sunday everyone. A cold front is working across the state today and is bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms with it. This will kick off what should be a wild week of weather across the eastern half of the country and that might put us in line for some active conditions.
Let’s start with today and work forward…
– A strong storm or two is possible today and any one storm will put down some locally heavy rains.
– The front will usher in a fresh brand of air for Monday as temps come back down into the upper 70s and low 80s for highs. We should see a mix of sun and clouds with only a small chance for a shower.
– After another nice day on Tuesday… we will watch the northwestern sky for some showers and thunderstorms moving in by Wednesday.
– These on and off showers and storms will hang around into Thursday as another front dips in from the northwest.
-It is at this point our weather outlook gets a little cloudy as we wait to see what happens with Tropical Storm and future Hurricane Irene. This storm is going to be a big player across the eastern gulf with Florida looking to be in the bullseye by the end of the week. Here is the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center…![[Image of 5-day forecast and coastal areas under a warning or a watch]](https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT09/refresh/AL0911W5_NL_sm2+gif/023912W5_NL_sm.gif)
– This has the look of a rather wild storm once it gets to Florida as it should be a fairly slow mover and may produce wind damage and flooding rains well inland and pretty far north. Where that track is won’t be known for several more days. I will say, given the model support and overall pattern, this may impact our region next weekend.
It always spices up the tropical tracking when a system has a chance to directly impact our weather and we will be all over it in the coming days.
In the meantime… track today’s scattered showers and storms…
I will have updates as needed. Have a great Sunday and take care.

Seems the rain is a bust for my neck of the woods today. I was hoping my pastures would get a drink. Oh well.
I’m heading to FL next weekend to see my Mom. The storm brewing down there is going to make things interesting. It will have to turn into something major to keep me from going. I’ve been through a lot of them when I lived there. The spring storms we get here are a lot of times much worst than the tropical storms there. What locals call a windy day here can send a Floridian into hurricane mode. Funny how perceptions are different depending on where you live.
I was on my home from Lexington to Versailles when I drove into THE worst rain event I’ve ever seen in my life!!
There were white out condidtions, rain blowing sideways and I couldn’t even see the front end of my car!!! Too scary for me!!!
Hi Wendy, I am a Florida native and know exactly what you mean. We had thunderstorms every afternoon but nothing like the storms here. I never remember going in a closet to hide except for the one time we had a tornado come through. We had terrible lightning in Florida compared to here but nothing like the wind that we get here on a regular basis.
Very bad storm around 6:15 in southeastern Bourbon County. We lost a huge tree and lots of large limbs. I was watching the local news at the time…not one warning. What does it take to get a severe thunderstorm warning? I talked to some thoroughbred farm managers and they are really mad. Horses don’t get put in the barns if nobody knows a storm is coming.
I was there too! The sideways wind and rain was terrifying. I thought it was the end of the world! I never imagined a storm so bad.
