Good Saturday everyone and welcome to the weekend. We are entering into a very active pattern across the eastern half of the country that may be capped off with a big time tropical threat by this time next weekend. Before then… we have some rounds of storms and a nice shot of September temps on the way.
Let’s break it down…
A cold front will approach the state overnight into Sunday. Isolated showers and storms will be possible ahead of this front today… but we should see a lot of dry weather. Temps will spike well into the mid and upper 80s with a 90 possible.
That front will kick off a better shot of showers and storms as we head into Sunday. Some of these could be strong or severe with heavy rains a good bet. These should push on out of town Sunday night with another shot of September coming for early next week. You can see this nice little shot of mild air on the European Model for Monday…
After another pretty nice day Tuesday… the threat for showers and thunderstorms returns Tuesday night into Wednesday. This could be a fairly stormy period as we find ourselves positioned in between the plains heat and a nice shot of cool across the northeast.
We have been talking about the possibility of a tropical system impacting the eastern gulf or the southeastern coastline late next week and the models are all over this with each and every run. The tropics are very active right now with Tropical Storm Harvey heading toward Belize and next week’s storm developing behind it. By the way… Harvey could become the first hurricane of the season before making landfall.
Back here on the bluegrass mainland, you can track some isolated storms here…

That’s all you crazy weather kids get on this Saturday. Have a great day and I will have updates as needed. Take care.

TY Chris, What kind of impact will the tropical system have on us in east ky, if any, or is it too early to tell? any info is greatly appreciated due to the fact I live in a flood prone area, and usually when we get the reminants of a tropical system we end up with high water here in Floyd co. anyone like to share their thoughts?
Yes, I would, John.
It is too early too tell how “Invest 97” aka the future Hurricane Irene will impact Eastern Kentucky, considering the system has even yet to develop into a tropical cyclone as of this typing.
As of 7:00p.m., IRENE lives.
Thanks Shawon, I appreciate the info
I appreciate the intent of this blog, and follow it with interest given your new position in Shasta County. However, I question how you went about learning many of the lessons you discuss – for the purpose of discussion this one will suffice – as what you write isn’t what I see. I also note that submitted comments are moderated before display, so I am wondering if you personally moderate out negative feedback or opportunities to argue your points.
