Good Thursday afternoon everyone. Just dropping by with some thoughts on our shot of wintry weather moving through. Before I get to all that… this storm brought a rare snow to New Orleans today and I thought I would share some pics and a video from there…

We have one heck of a cold rain for much of central and eastern Kentucky. Snow and sleet and even some freezing rain has been mixing in over the past few hours in several spots. Temps will continue to fall below freezing with a quick change to snow. We should see a nice band of moderate to heavy snows breaking out with this stuff moving northeast out of Tennessee…

While that band is moving northeast… we will start to see the back edge of the precip shield begin working east over the next several hours. Exactly where this band of moderate to heavy snow sets up will mean the world in regards to accumulations. The best chance for accumulating snows will be along and east of a line from Maysville to Frankfort to Bowling Green. The 12 hour short range model known as the RUC is picking up nicely on this band to our southwest. Here is what it shows…

Once again… just take the general idea of what it is showing and don’t put as much stock into the exact placement and totals.

Temps will be dropping of into the upper 20s later this evening and this will cause slick travel to develop. It should also mean we see some good icing developing as all the moisture out there freezes up. Throw some snow on that and you get some nasty travel possibilities tonight.

More updates coming later in the evening as I

Take care.
