*****UPDATE******

A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY has just been issued for areas along Interstate 64 from the Morehead area back toward the Lexington and Frankfort areas! Slick travel will soon begin to develop as temps are already dropping below freezing in some areas.

I had mentioned earlier that the strong north winds had me a little nervous as that is a sure sign of colder air moving in. Temps are currently running below where the models think they should be and this will make for one heck of a tough Thursday forecast.

I will tackle that later tonight.  The rest of the Houston snow post is below…

Good evening gang and thanks for blogging with us today. I am waiting on all the latest computer runs to come in before I make some maps for your Thursday storm. That post should be coming along a little after 11.

I wanted to show you a couple of pics I just came across from some of my fellow weather geeks from Houston, Texas…

It is snowing all the way to the Gulf of Mexico! I will be looking to see how close the snows can get to New Orleans alter tonight.

You guys want to know what will happen around here… not the big easy!

1.Potential for some freezing drizzle or freezing rain overnight across the northern and central Kentucky. This could cause some slick travel and is something to watch out for.

2. Heavy rains develop early Thursday in the south and east then spreading north and northeast. This will change over to a mix by early afternoon then to wet snow by later in the afternoon from northwest to southeast. When it changes is the BIG question and will be the main factor on how much snow can fall.

3. There will be a sharp north and west cutoff to the precip shield.

4. Clipper system for Friday will bring snow showers and flurries to central and eastern Ky and this can bring some light accumulations.

5. Arctic air set to make a return to the region by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week after taking a Sunday/Monday break. The setup is one that can lead to widespread wintry weather for a lot of the country.

More on all that later tonight so check back. Until then… take care and think snow!
