Good Tuesday everyone. The temps over the past week have been nothing short of pleasant and this is all coming during our hottest time of the year. It’s good to have mother nature paying us back for the nasty heat she threw our way earlier this summer.
Today will feature temps heading closer to where we should be for this time of year.. low and mid 80s. That’s still not bad and you can track the temps with the good folks at kentucky mesonet…
Current Temps
We will see partly sunny skies with a nice breeze blowing across the region.
Temps for Wednesday will surge back into the mid and upper 80s as humidity levels bounce back toward the uncomfortable level. We could even fire up a scattered thunderstorm ahead of an approaching cold front. This front moves in for Thursday with a better shot at a few boomers. Some of those may hang into Friday with both days seeing temps in the mid 80s.
Our weekend looks warm and rather humid with a scattered thunderstorm around. Highs will be well into the 80s with a shot at 90.
A big dip in the jet stream appears to be in the cards as we head into next week. A strong cold front will move from the upper midwest and across much of the eastern half of the country. The models will struggle with this kind of setup as it is not very typical of this time of year. This could bring some more showers and storms early next week that would be followed by a nice little cool shot.
That shows up nicely on the GFS Temp Departure Map…
The European 500mb height anomaly map really drives hom the point of the heat in the west and a trough in the east during the 6-10 day period…
The pattern ahead is also one that appears to be loaded with tropical potential as we head into the final few weeks of August. We have had 6 named storms this season and none of them have reached hurricane status.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.

Freak snowfall has NZ reeling
WELLINGTON: New Zealand is shivering through a one-in-50-year polar blast that has brought snow to much of the country, the weather service says.
A bitterly cold southerly blast has caused snow to fall in areas of New Zealand which do not usually receive it, making roads impassable in many areas on both islands, closing airports and cutting power to thousands.
Staff at Wellington Zoo took advantage of the first major snowfall in the capital for 40 years to give the visiting penguin ”Happy Feet” a dip in an icy saltwater pool.
…
The MetService head forecaster, Peter Kreft, said the polar blast was ”of the order of a 50-year” event and warned it could last for days. The level of snow that had fallen in Wellington had not been seen since at least the 1970s, he said.
In Wanganui in the North Island, snow had settled for the first time since 1974, Constable Simon Beswarick said.
…
The MetService has forecast the heavy snow to continue today before easing tomorrow. It is unlikely to continue down to sea level.

Wow! It is sure funny to see those Tree Ferns covered in snow as well. They are native to NZ and AU so i would assume they can take the snow. Lol. I hear that South Africa has had cold weather and all the snow and cold in South America and now this after AU and NZ have had a pretty rough winter. I hope that means we are posied for a warmer weather.
I really think this is showing how bad our winter could be. If you remember how bad South America’s winter was last year, then our winter was bad. This year their winter has been awful, so I am expecting a very bad winter. Before that i was expecting a bad one anyways.
