Good Thursday everyone. I wanted to drop by for my usual update as our early winter pattern rolls on with no signs of ending anytime soon. As a matter of fact… we may really get into some amazing early winter weather over the next few weeks.  Got your attention yet?!

We have another stout cold front moving across the state on this Thursday. Ahead of this front… southwest winds may briefly boost temps toward the low 40s my midday before the cold air moves in later in the afternoon and our temps take a tumble Winds will be very gusty through Friday. This front does not have much moisture to work with so only a passing rain or snow shower with it today.

Northwesterly winds set up this evening into Friday meaning some lake enhanced moisture will move in with snow showers and flurries becoming common… especially in th east.

THIS EVENING

FRIDAY MORNING

A coating of snow will be possible once again for much of central and eastern Ky. The flow is a little better this go around so the higher elevations can get up to an inch or so of snow first thing Friday. Highs Friday will be in the low 30s.

Saturday morning will see temps back in the teens. Highs later in the day should stay in the mid and upper 30s with a 40 west. There is a weak system that will bring some clouds in by evening. These clouds may actually spit out a few flurries.

Sunday will see temps warm into the 40s ahead of our next front that is poised to blow through later Monday. Here is what the European Model looks like Monday evening…

You see our first low heading into the Great Lakes with the trailing cold front moving through. Rain showers will be with us during the day Monday then a quick change to snow showers will take place from west to east Monday evening and overnight as much colder air moves in.

EUROPEAN MODEL TUESDAY EVENING

This model has been suggesting for the past several runs that another low will develop along the east coast then strengthen as it moves north  and even northwest. This happens as a strong upper level low closes off across the mid atlantic states. The above map would show widespread snow showers and squalls for our region that can put down some accumulations.

EUROPEAN MODEL WEDNESDAY EVENING

You can see this model does not move this low very much at all as it REALLY blocks up the overall pattern. This model goes on to show another huge storm moving in later next week that can bring some wild weather to much of the eastern half of the country just in time for Thanksgiving travelers.

We cannot say enough about how impressive the cold pattern we are in really is. Record lows were set Wednesday at several locations across our region with record lows reaching deep into Florida. Temps that would do a true January arctic outbreak proud in the deep south. The problem is… this is NOT arctic air and we are still getting this type of cold. Now… think of how cold it will get once we tap arctic air?!!!

I have mentioned time and time again about how excited I am, as a snow and cold lover, about the pattern shaping up for the rest of November into December. It is a pattern that can bring some extreme winter weather to much of the country including your backyard. Exciting times ahead to say the least and the blog will be here to track it all with you.

I will have an update on the snow shower threat and may even put out a map for you later today so be sure to check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.
