Good Tuesday everyone. Our Monday was a wintry one across the state with temps that generally stayed in the 30s with very gusty winds adding an extra chill to the air. Oh by the way… we did have some wintry stuff falling from the sky in many areas.
We started things out with a mix of rain, sleet and snow early Monday. Colder air changed all that over to snow showers that came down pretty good for a time in many areas. This is what it looked like at the Bailey house in Ashland when I got home just after 11 last night…
Not too bad if I must say so myself. Everything is pretty much covered with maybe a half inch as of this writing. We should pick up a little more later tonight into early Tuesday.
It is the eastern part of the state that will see an inch or less total from all this with the rest of the state picking up that coating that many of you saw Monday evening. That coating did manage to cause some accidents in central Kentucky! I would be willing to bet we get some delays of even a school closing or two first thing Tuesday morning. Temps will be well down into the 20s meaning icy spots are a good bet.
With the flow coming in from the northwest… a few snow showers and flurries should be on and off into the first half of today… especially in the east. Here is the GFS…
Tuesday Morning
Tuesday Afternoon
You can still see some flakes coming off Lake Michigan. Parts of my TV forecast area in West Virginia will be doing very good with snow totals. Local amounts may hit 3 or 4 inches with the highest mountains getting close to a foot of snow out of this.
Highs on this Tuesday will run in the low 30s in the east with mid 30s in central Kentucky. Winds will be gusty leading to wind chills in the 20s. Dress for January out there today!
Wednesday morning will start cold with temps near 20 in some spots. By later in the afternoon… we will start looking to the northwest at another clipper that will move in for Thursday and Friday. This looks like the twin of the system that just rolled through here!
European Model Thursday
European Model Friday
That air mas is actually colder than the one we have right now. We should see a mix of rain, sleet and snow showers with us to start the day Thursday before colder air moves in and changes that over to snow showers. Stop me if you have heard that one before! ![]()
Thursday Morning Precip Type
Thursday Afternoon
Snow showers would then be with us Thursday night and Friday with the potential for more accumulations… especially in the east. Highs Friday may stay below freezing!
The weekend looks cold still. I would not put a whole lot of stock in the models right now as this pattern is throwing them for a loop beyond this Friday. There is the potential for some big storms across the country from this weekend through the rest of November into early December. I am seeing some things that I am REALLY liking right now over the next few weeks. Fun and games ahead folks! ![]()
I am feeling under the weather and am losing my voice so no video blog for a few days. I will get another one out for you later in the week.
My Nyquil is now kicking in so it’s bedtime for your now loopy weather dude! Take care.

Thanks Chris…We already have our first two school delays of the year: Letcher and Pike County schools have one-hour delays. It’s been a looong time since I’ve seen a school delay this early in the season.
Hey gang, GOOD MORNING! Chris love the forcast. I just can’t believe HOW COLD we are lol. All the talk about better snow chances to the “EAST” lol now we know why ya left us! You wanted better snow chances lol JUST KIDDING :D:D:D:D: Have a great day all!
Chris, I hope you get to feeling better. I’m sure you’re glad you aren’t doing the early morning shift these days. Get some sleep!!
I wonder how many other UK fans are getting sick? That was a miserable night on Saturday (weather and game), plus the Friday loss probably zapped everybody’s immune systems. Perhaps a win tonight will help.
It’s a cold morning in Bourbon County. Brrrr!!
No accumulating snow down here…:(…just passing snow flurries in the air this morning… It sure is cold though.
Chris I told you, megan and Pam to quit hoggin all the snow yesterday…lol.. you all managed to be as greedy as possible with the white stuff…lol…

Love the song! You are so good at making those up.
Just a quick note to let everyone know that there IS SCHOOL in Jackson County today.

get well soon chris.

Nyquil? See what happens when you move to the unhealthiest city in the country? Come back to Lexington…
Chris I hope you feel better.I enjoyed the snow last night and early this am on cars and houses but all is gone now but it was pretty to see.Patty I am with you I want the big one!!!!! Tim your songs are so cute we are going to have to send you to nashville lol!!!!
alot colder air mass easly on this year, all the way to the gulf.
so this tells me get ready folks for a big snowy winter.
these are whacky times for the models, I’ve given up on a saturday system the high pressure over the plains will prevent phasing and storm formation.

This is a little bit of a shock to the system..Week before last it was in the mid 70’s every day, now its struggling to get to the freezing mark!
Temp 32- still a coating of snow on the ground here in Perry County- especially low down where the sun has barely hit. If nothing else, this cold spell will certainly lower ground temps enough.. if we do get that first snow storm in here it will stick!
Hope you start feeling better soon. That whole “voice-losing, coughing, Nyquil-needing” bug is feverishly making the rounds of Ashland. My wife is sort of on the rebound from it, but it’s really held on tight for the last five days or so. Great weather like this, though, kind of makes up for it a little bit!
The GFS continues to tease us with a Thanksgiving weekend storm that looks to come ever so close to dumping snow on us… Man..it’s driving me nuts. Definitely starting the season off with an active pattern though.
Chris you need to put the old feet up and a big bowl of chicken soup works everytime. Get better soon Chris i don’t like knowing our favorite weatherdude is under the weather.
Rick, I knew that’s what happen Chris you are in the wrong state. KY that’s where you need to be. Back at wkyt

How are those lying models looking this evening ?
Hey everybody, haven’t posted in awhile. Sorry to hear Chris isn’t feeling well, it’s hat time of year I guess. Does anyone know if the snow for Thanksgiving weekend is still going to happen or is it just wishful thinking?
Silver Biotics is GREAT for any type of bug…etc
Hiya, Chris!:)
Glad to have finally found your new (old?!) site here!!:) It’s been some time since I posted (new (surprise!) “little ones” tend to do that to ya!?) I hope all my fellpow bloggers are doing well, too?!:)
Chris, you need to quit teasing us like this…what we NEED to know is…”When’s then SNOW a-comin'”??!:D
BTW…happy that some of my Easternly friends got some yesterday..here in Bardstown, we got about 38 “ice balls” on the back deck, and wouldn’t ya know?!- I’d checked every 5 minutes and the one time I let my guard down, it came and went, so I didn’t even get the whole awesome experience of even SEEING it FALL….***??$%*-it…!!!;)
Debbie..Glad to hear from you! I guess that what parenthood does to you huh? Get busy with the baby and miss it all. I remember those days well!
Think we’ll see the big one this year Crystal?
Since when is Kentucky underdog to ANYONE?? Puleeeezeee….
Seriously…BIG TIME cold coming up tonight…and repeatedly in the coming weeks. Everyone get ready, and remember to keep check on elderly loved ones.
i got my dogs some straw this evening mid teens is a bit rough on the fellers
Yes Patty I am going out on a limb for the big one this year!!!! Why because Rollo’s goat predicted a baaaaaaaaad winter!!!!!!!!
Hi debbie what did you have a little girl or boy????? Good to hear from you don’t be a stranger!!!!
Wxman I second that about the cold and checking on the elderly. My father in law has alz’s and gets confused and will wander out.He does better when he takes his meds but getting him to take it is a whole other story!!!! People certainly don’t need to get out and slip and break a hip or something.Everyone stay warm and check on the pets!!!!
Temp right now…at 10:12 pm on the Rowan/Carter line, is 21.5 degrees…and falling like a rock. It doesn’t get this cold very much around here without a snow on the ground. This is really something.
Hi Debbie, how old is the little surprise now??
10:50 p.m. and 18.2* and still falling!!! is this NOV. or JAN.??
……………..
Hey if you all wanna rehash the superstorm of 93′. youtube has several different footages from Ala., GA.,FL. TN., and THE WEATHER CHANNEL. but I havent found any footage from any of the stations in central ky. I did find it interesting at one point on March 13,1993 every single county in ALA. was under a heavy snow warning from the TN. border to the coast of FL. now that is something… well it makes for good intertainment when your bored I guess..LOL..NO actually it just makes you want it to snow ( THE BIG ONE ) that much more…lol…
Hey everyone from OKC, OK..
Just letting everyone know I’m still alive and trying to keep up with the posts.. I’m glad you all got some wintry stuff recently.. I have a new life in OKC, OK and loving it, just not looking forward to all the icy storms they say they get here instead of the snow.. The weather has been much warmer here, chilly but not as cold as you all have been getting..
