Good Monday to one and all. I certainly hope you had a heck of a weekend. Our temps were every bit as cold as expected and this is a little preview of what is coming at us by next weekend and beyond.
The blog had been talking about the chance for a few sprinkles or flurries for to round out this past weekend. We were the only source talking about this as some of the others who had mentioned it several days ago jumped off the wagon at the last minute. Those sprinkles and flurries did in fact happen…

SCATTERED LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS MIXED WITH SNOW WILL MOVE ACROSS THE
AREA THROUGH MIDNIGHT. NO SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL OCCUR.
This brings a
to my face as I was even a little unsure if anything would fall from the clouds. Highs on our Sunday stayed in the lower 40s across the entire region. Winds were a tad gusty making it feel even colder.
Our Monday will look better as we break out into partly sunny skies. Highs will stay in the 40s… but will be a few degrees higher than Sunday.
We have been talking about going into a wet pattern for this upcoming week and that still looks to be the case. The initial low heading in for Tuesday will dampen out as it moves east meaning the precip will be more showery in nature. We have also been talking about this precip moving in early enough Tuesday for the chance that it starts out as a little sleet. This appears to be a real possibility, but should not be a big deal as that will turn over to a cold rain fairly quickly. Highs Tuesday will only warm into the low 40s for areas getting the rain and mid to upper 40s outside any precip.
A better shot of rain will move in from Wednesday through Friday and this could bring a nice little soaking to the region. Winds will really pick up during this time as a cold blast of air surges toward us by late Friday into the weekend. Ahead of this cold air… temps will warm into the 50s for a few days. Then the front hits Friday evening…
This will bring the coldest air of the season to us for the weekend. Highs Saturday and Sunday could easily stay in the 30s with lows dipping into the 20s. The pattern is such that it should produce numerous rain and snow showers to start out before snow showers take over at some point Saturday and continue into Sunday…
GFS Saturday
GFS Sunday
How widespread our snow showers get will be highly dependent on the exact flow that sets up. It is something for us to keep an eye on as I have seen situations like this before produce some light accumulations. ![]()
Find your UK parkas for the game Saturday night!! Could this be a RARE UK home football game played with flakes flying? Hmmmm… very interesting! ![]()
The hits may keep on coming after this weekend as many of the medium range forecast models are looking VERY cold for this time of year. Check it out…

Brrrrrr! Looks like an early start to winter to me… well… at least on paper anway!
Now all we need to do is to get it to work out this way! ![]()
Have a great Monday and take care.

Lovin it Chris 🙂 HELLO EVERYONE!
Thank Chris…here is part of the discussion from NWS Jackson:
MODELS HAVE BEEN BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH THE PAST DAY OR SO WITH
REGARDS TO THE TIMING OF AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ON MONDAY NIGHT AND
TUESDAY. TONIGHTS LATEST MODEL RUNS ONCE AGAIN ARE KEEPING
PRECIPITATION OUT OF THE FORECAST AREA UNTIL AROUND 12Z TUESDAY. THE
GENERAL CONSENSUS…HOWEVER…IS AN EARLIER ONSET OF
PRECIP…SAY BY AROUND 9Z TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH
FOR A RAIN SNOW MIX TO OCCUR ON TUESDAY MORNING BETWEEN 9 AND 13Z.
AFTER THAT…A WARM FRONT WILL MOVE SLOWLY NORTHWARD ACROSS THE
AREA…PUSHING THE COLDER AIR INTO OHIO. ONCE THE FRONT MAKES ITS
PUSH…PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE OVER THE ALL RAIN BY 14Z. THERE WILL
BE A BREIF REPRIEVE FROM THE RAIN…AS THE WARM SECTOR OF THE
APPROACHING LOW OVERSPREADS EASTERN KENTUCKY…BUT THIS WILL NOT LAST
LONG…AS THE PARENT LOW OF THIS SYSTEM BEGINS TO MOVE
EASTWARD…BRINGING ANOTHER SHOT OF RAIN TO THE AREA ALONG AN APPROACHING
COLD FRONT. THE BEST CHANCE FOR PRECIPITATION INITIALLY WILL COME ON
TUESDAY MORNING…AS THE WARM FRONT TRAVERSES THE REGION. MADE ONLY
MINOR CHANGES TO POPS AND SKY COVER…DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF
UNCERTAINTY THE MODELS ARE SHOWING WITH THIS NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM.
Your thoughts?
As of this morning, GFS continues to advertise a very Wintry period from November 16-23. Chris is going to be a very happy camper going into Thanksgiving…
Well I’m ready for 20’s and snow… I was playing around with Accuweather’s 15 day forecast, now these forecasts change with a drop of a bucket. but nonetheless are fun to watch especially in the winter months. On 11/24, they are forecasting a high of 37* with an overnight low of 0*…BBBRRR now thats COLD,COLD,COLD…anytime of the yr…like I said tomorrow they’ll probably have it in the 50’s or 60’s…lol….but that forecast for the BIG GOOSE EGG !!!! in Nov. got my attention… later all
Yeah I’ll need my Parka for the UK game Saturday night. I never been in commonwealth stadium with snow falling…that would be an awesome sight!!!! I’m ready for it.
The last time I remember it snowing during a UK game at Commonwealth was in 1995 vs. Cincinnati. Frankly, I hope the forecast changes for the better!!
Bring it on! I’ll be putting up the tree and lights early this year 🙂
Well, I’m not sure where it flurried, but I didn’t get any. It did sprinkle on me though.
I know what you mean Tim. On ly Yesterday the showed sunny skys for the next 15 days! No rain in sight!
the threat is there for a brief period of sleet and or frz.rain tommorow morning with the best shot in the valleys lows should be 28-31 for most with temps rising to 32 by 10 am.
I was there. I remember that one well. It was a day game though, really pretty to watch.
The blog seems to be some technical difficulties
Hi Andy! What kind of technical problems are you having?
wet bulb temps are falling below freezing and the precip sheild is moving in faster than expected, should be into lexington around 4 or 5 am. we could have a few hours of light sleet and frz rain. not a fun prospect.
I think the atmosphere will be too dry….. maybe a brief period of sleet… too dry…thats my thought…but sleet and frz rain is not fun
I’ve been having problems loading the comments section today… Seems to be working fine now though
when I tried to get on earlier today, the page started to come up, but then it had your pic uptop, and said “the site you are looking for does not exist. Please hit your back button”….or somethign along those lines. It worked right a little later.
What is teh difference between the wet bulb and dry bulb? What do they measure exactly, or what is the difference? We have a psycrometer for football practice in the summers to do the heat indicies.
i will email you a Screen shot if you paste your email for me but its like it can’t find the comments section like Mr S says there sometimes it loads the main page but when you click comments it doesn’t load the comments
humidity levels already at 70% the precip is hitting the ground out in west ky with similar humidity values. The shield is slowing a bit let’s hope that continues
wet bulb is what the temp would be @ 100% humidity due to evaporational cooling.
chris please show the 00z gfs blizzard at 240 hr, that would be a nice dream before reality sets in.
