Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to the day after the election. You can now turn on your TV’s again without seeing the political folks body slamming each other. Now we can get on with the weather and trying to body slam the warm temps and the ever lasting snow dome! ![]()
The warmth is going to continue for a few more days before we start some big changes as we head into the weekend. This will set us up for a very active period next week and it is one that should take us into the second half of the month with some interesting possibilities looming.
Highs Today and Thursday will be back into the 70s across the entire area. Mainly sunny skies will be with us once again and winds will pick up as we head into Thursday. This is a bad setup for the forest fires so let’s hope we don’t see many breaking out.
A cold front moves in Thursday night into Friday. This front will have a band of showers that may even contain a clap of thunder. I am still not expecting very much rainfall with a quarter to half inch looking to be the max. Highs will be in the 50s in most areas with a 60 possible in the east.
That front will usher in some chilly air for the weekend. Highs in the 40s will be likely for Saturday and Sunday with a small chance for a stray shower. The European model is showing some decent cold air advection…
Another storm system will begin to develop across the plains and head toward the region early next week. The European model has a winter look to it…
Monday
Tuesday
Here is my take on the storm track over the next week…
The first low pressure will be well to our north and likely bring more than a foot of snow from Nebraska through the Dakotas into Minnesota. The storm track will then shift southward from Monday through Wednesday of next week as that low looks to move right over us. That may bring a healthy snow threat from Kansas into the Great Lakes area. This track would mean a chilly, SOAKING rain around here would be a good possibility. Colder air will move in behind the departing low by late Wednedsay into Thursday and could bring some wraparound snows not to far from us.
If we see this same setup in December into the winter… snow lovers would be smiling! This setup is yet another good signal to me that the winter ahead means business. ![]()
This stormy pattern won’t end with the second system as we are likely to see another storm right behind it by the end of next week that may take a farther southward track. You have got to love this trend!!! ![]()
Have a great Wednesday and take care.

Thanks Chris…..With the election over we can look forward to our holiday season, good food, great friends and our loving families and……SNOW (we hope)! Also, I hope to see old faces return here on the blog!( Bubba G, Tom where are you?)
Hey Patty, Good Morning! Lookin GOOD Chris, Lookin GOOD! 😀 😀
Chris, that darned clock is off again lol 😉
Thanks Chris for the update and maps.
Chris Says :This track would mean a chilly, SOAKING rain around here would be a good possibility. Colder air will move in behind the departing low by late Wednedsay into Thursday and could bring some wraparound snows not to far from us. I even included the typo 😉 but anyways this is the story of our lives Cold rain and wrap around snow not to far from us. Seems to be same ole same ole to me 🙁
Anything, and I mean anything will be better than the pattern we’ve experienced this week. Is everyone tired of Indian Summer? I’m ready for some rainy, chilly days and few snow threats.
watch the track of low 2 as we all know the low tracks change a lot but not usually in our favor. the 06z GFS had a much different look than it’s warm verson the 00z which means the models are having a hard time with it.
It would be nice to get some colder weather. I want to start putting up Christmas decorations, but not in the mood with warm weather…just doesn’t seem right.
Does the winter threat with Storm #2 come farther south next week? Maybe even into Kentucky? It has a chance… STAY TUNED! 🙂
Come Chris you are killing us..lol.. You sure know how to keep people tuning back in… Just like the tv ratings…lol.. except your trying to get the blog hits up..lol I for one wouldn’t mind an early season snow..even if its just a roof coater!
The $64,000 question is will there be enough instability in the atmosphere tomorrow/Friday for some strong to severe t-storms and damage to occur here in Kentucky?? That is hard to say right now, but the possibility is there.
After that, the 120-156 hour timeframe looks VERY interesting. Like Chris, I like the way that trough sets up in the midwest. That’s a classic looking setup for some icy/snowy wx somewhere nearby. Hmm…
Hello Chris, and everyone else out there in blog land. It`s been a very long time since I`ve been on here blogging with you all. I`ve really missed doing it too. I`m glad I can finally get on here again. Don`t know when I`ll be able to get on here again but, at least I`m on here now. I`ve been enjoying the really warm and clear weather we`ve been having but, I am finding myself looking forward to getting a little snow. Even if it is just a little. I`m also looking forward to a couple of really good thumpings. Do you think we might get some really good thumpings Chris? I certainly hope so. It just doesn`t seem like winter unless you get stranded at home a couple of times.LOL! Anyway, we really do need some precip. Hope we get enough to do some good tomorrow or Friday. We`ll see, huh? Well, I`ll get off here for now. Hope everyone`s doing ok. Hopefully I`ll be back on here again real soon. Later Y`all.

LOL! Michael S. You’re probably right!
I think I just heard a loud peal from the snow bells. 😉
Hey,Chris, send us some rain in Estill County. The smoke from the forest fire is bad.Yesterday we couldn’t even see the mountains because of the smoke.I can even smell the smoke here in my house and I live a long way away from the fire. Thanks for the update. The future sounds promising for snow lovers.
Hello Everybody, from down south….it has been a gorgeous day today down here! The bluest skies…and warm sunshine! But as Chris says…that’s about to change.I may not post everyday, but I am always here on the blog,so hello to all the newbies, and to the oldtimers as well!I am ready for some SNOW !!!!!!
