Good Wednesday folks. The chill continues across the region but we do have some much milder days ahead of us over the next week or so. “Interesting” signs continue to show up for the middle and end of the month and that promises to deliver a lot of blogging. ![]()
Let’s break down our weather with the often imitated but never duplicated Weather Headlines…
1. After a start in the 20s Today… temps will make a run at the low 50s across most of the region under partly sunny skies.
2. Milder air will continue to move in from the west and southwest for Thursday. Highs will warm into the 60s for central and western Ky and push 60 in the east.
3. Halloween looks good with highs in the low to mid 60s under mainly sunny skies. Trick or Treaters should plan on temps running in the 50s.
3. A weak cold front moves in Saturday with very little fanfare. A few clouds will be around with the SLIGHTEST chance for shower. Temps won’t cool down much with upper 50s and low 60s for highs as we kick off November.
4. Is it really almost November? Wow…
5. The long range call toward election day is for temps to run in the 60s with partly sunny skies. No reason not to go vote!!
6. The pattern will grow more active toward the end of next week as our jet stream begins to amplify once again. The players are coming on the field to warm up for what could be some exciting times as we head into mid November and beyond. I have been talking up the chance for an early start to winter for a few weeks now and I continue to like what I am seeing. ![]()
There you have your headlines for this Wednesday. I want to add that I am giving the NWS in Louisville some time to look at Monday’s Lexington climate report and to do the right thing and add a trace of snow. My previous post offered more than enough evidence to support this. It’s not a matter of who is right and who is wrong… it is a matter of getting the history of the weather right. Did you know that the snow on Monday was the first time snow has ever been recorded in Lexington on October 27th? That’s right… it’s a HISTORICAL weather event that is being discounted by your NWS folks.
Here is hoping they do the right thing VERY soon! If not… well… we will see if we can URGE them to take a closer look. ![]()
Take care everyone.

Hey Chris..
I see on this website for the earliest snowfall ever recorded in Lexington was a trace on Oct 6 1952.

Thanks Chris for the update…here are the “big” snowfall totals from yesterday’s event, all in Harlan County:
Black Mountain: 2.2 inches
Kingdom Come: 2 inches
4 miles ESE of Closplint: 1.5 inches
Several other locations had a trace of snow:

Chris, they’ll add it. How can you have NUMEROUS reports of snowfall in multiple counties and not add it to the climate record? Surely they wouldn’t do that…it’ll be added. Just keep an eye on it.
WEll I due to sickness, I did’nt get to see any snowflakes flying yesterday..:(
Oh well I’ll have to wait til next time… and on a COLD AND FROSTY note. my thermometer bottomed out at 22.5* this morning around 7:00 am. sitting at 24* right now…THATS COLD STUFF

What does November 8-22 look like…preferably November 8th weekend. Am I going to have to wear shortsleeve t-shirts deer hunting this year??
Looks like we are headed for a nice warm up for atleast a couple weeks maybe longer. I hope this will be the last warm up until next April. I’m ready for some real Cold weather… the kind that you need the longhandles on. But looks like upper 60s to low 70s for a while.
Hey Jake! Glad to hear from you! Hope all is well with you and your family!
We Americans are not the only ones experiencing winter early:

Our friends in Britain are having the coldest October since 1934.
Hmmm William
Maybe its the lack of sun spots.
Don’t get used to the cold weather. Most of next week will be near 70..how long will this go on? Isn’t there a saying that goes..the weather in November, the winter will remember? Again..nothing exciting going on..the southeast ridge rules again, as it has for the past decade or so it seems. At this point, I could care less about snow..we need rain here in SE Kentucky..
