Good Monday, everyone. It’s another in a long line of active weather days across the bluegrass state. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will be accompanied by high winds and big temperature swings. This crazy setup is slowly giving way to a pattern more conducive of winter weather across the eastern part of the country.
Today’s system across the Mississippi Valley lifts northward, bringing additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms across the state. With a saturated ground, high water issues are a good bet. The highest threat for flooding is across central and western Kentucky. Watch the water levels as the rains move in.
A few of the storms could be strong across the west and southwest, however the main severe threat appears to stay just to our south.
Temps will also bounce around with another huge gradient setting up.
Your weather trackers of the day…
We have to watch for another rain maker moving in on Wednesday. If that verifies across central and eastern Kentucky, it could add to the high water concerns. Colder air filters in later in the day and sets up shop for New Year’s Eve and Day. A few flurries will also be possible.
The toasty pattern of the fall and December looks to become toast in early January. Waves of winter come at us, but it’s not quite ready to settle in. That may change by week two of the new year as all the Ensembles are pointing in that direction…
European Model
GFS
Canadian
Notice that BIG ridge across western Canada and Alaska? That’s something we saw a lot of over the past few winters. When and if that sets up… watch out.
The CFS Model did a very good job with the blowtorch weather of the past few months. That same model is now going cold for January…
Hang tight, winter lovers. The pattern appears to be on schedule!
I will update things later today. Make it a great Monday and take care.
I’ll repeat what someone stated the other day. ..ever since interactive radar, the site freezes on my phone
Me too. Constantly crashes
I have to hard reset my phone a lot of times when viewing the blog. Also, this site in the google search engine says “This site may be hacked”.
When going to the blog on my Iphone, through Safari, it crashes. If I go to the blog via twitter, on my phone, it does ok.
Don’t use Safari. Lots of websites don’t work properly on Safari.
Cold good but will there be a MS Valley storm track anytime soon? Cold without moisture stinks. Rodger in Dodger!
I am glad to know I am not the only one having issues with the website. It constantly reloads when I am viewing it from phone or iPad. I wondered if it had something to do with the new radar. Looks like that may be the culprit.
Wow 66 degrees in Calloway County in southern KY and 38 degrees at Campbell County KY in northern Ky. Warm enough for Severe Thunderstorms in southern Ky and cold enough in northern Ky (if the upper air atmosphere waa right) for snow.
I have had 6.22″ since December 21 on my water-logged property, as more rain heads my way…sheesh.
Thank you Chris for all the work you do on the blog, as I told you the other day I love reading every day. I too have thought the same thing about the radar. Love it but I think we need a link for it perhaps instead of posted.
New interactive radar doesn’t work right on my s4 galaxy phone or 10.5 samsung tablet either.
I tried aomething roger in dodger gave me an idea about, and tried with Google chrome app on my phone, interactive radar and page works ok. Everyone having trouble veiwing, try chrome and see if it works ok for you.
Thanks roger in dodger.
Just to share… I usually view the site on Chrome and have never had a problem in months… or, well, ever, really… It has always worked fine. Perhaps Chrome is the answer. (I never use Explorer or Safari)
Though not a fan of the radar myself, I’m hesitant to pile on unless I’ve experienced extensive problems myself.
For those of you who are curious as to whether the referer header is to blame (your browser telling the website server how to display the page, “show me FF mobile” for example), you can test it for yourself on a tool like this or another of your choice and see how the page will render (look and load) on different types of browsers, connection types, etc.

CB, here’s the site run through something like Nibbler if you’re interested (note the mobile score).

For mobile users, if you haven’t tried Opera Mini on Android, this site works loads really well on it with Data Savings set to high and image quality set to Low, Cookies Disabled.
I can’t speak to commenting function as I never do it via mobile.
At least the lightning strikes in our area have stopped (for now) since the main line went through the Land Between The Lakes area.
But please still remember to Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
Dear Mr. Chris, Would you please wave your magic wand and congregate up a winter storm that produces 6 plus inches of snow for Eastern Kentucky. Sincerely yours, Sarah (Bailey Met Fan)
