Happy Sunday folks and thanks for blogging with us. I am dropping by for a quick update on our early season flirt with winter that is coming over the next few days.
Things remain on target as far as what the blog has been saying for several days now. Our front will arrive later tonight and will have a VERY narrow band of some rain showers that can end as a few flurries in the east by Monday morning. Temps by that time will be near freezing.
Monday itself will see clouds begin to fill back in from the northwest as a weak system works southeastward in the cold flow. Highs will be running in the low to mid 40s. Those clouds can start to produce some precipitation by later Monday evening. Here is what the GFS shows for that time…
The green is rain while the pink shows snow. This will be scattered rain or snow showers or even just some sprinkles or flurries. The coverage of the precip will pick up by Tuesday morning as some moisture from Lake Michigan gets involved. Here is Tuesday morning…
I am becoming more and more confident that the state of Kentucky will see the first flakes of the season over the next 48 hours. That does not mean you will see them where you live… but the chances are increasing that we can get more and more folks involved by Tuesday morning. The GFS is even spitting out some light accumulations in the east…
Can eastern Kentucky get a rooftop duster out of this? Yep. Will they? Ask me Monday evening!
Highs Tuesday will see temps even colder than Monday with many areas struggling into the low 40s. Clearing skies for Wednesday morning will allow for temps to take a big time tumble into the mid 20s with some low 20s possible in the valleys.
I will update all this later this evening so make sure to check back. Take care and enjoy this awesome Sunday!

Thanks Chris for the update…One question: When and where was the earliest October accumulating snow in Kentucky?
a little frosty this morning
William, the earliest snowfall they currently have on record for Eastern KY was at the Jackson Weather office on October 20, 1989. As far as the whole state of Kentucky goes, I couldn’t tell you. Here is a link to the Eastern Kentucky totals.

Well snow or not its definitely going to be cold… My kids would just be excited to see it falling from the sky. I guess we will just have to see what happens… Well hope everyone has a good day. Sunny and beautiful outside at my house right now.
Back to the same pattern, we warm up for a day and then the bottom drops out. Gotta love KY weather lol. I enjoy the cold, but I hope it is nice for Halloween. 🙂
Hey I’ll take a rooftop duster in OCT. anyday of the week..lol.. Maybe rooftop dusters in Oct. may lead to broom dusting then snow shoveling in Nov. 🙂 🙂 :)….then plows in Dec.
The National Weather Service out of Louisville has Lexington having a chance of snow flurries for Monday night.I was surprised to see them saying that! Although Chris has been talking about this for more than a week! They are even coming around!I checked all the local TV stations website in town. None of them mention anything about snow in our area, except to say that far Eastern Kentucky MAY see some flakes in the higher elevations. We shall see!
Hey all! It’s one of the bright shiny days here in Woodford. I absolutly love this weather!
FREEZE WATCH for Eastern Kentucky late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
maybe a light dusting far se don’t see much more than that. warmer weather coming in for nov.
Good Sunday afternoon. What a gorgeous day. I haven’t posted much but sure do enjoy getting the forecast in my mailbox. It is like a Christmas present every time it appears. I am busier in retirement than I was “formally” working. I love retirement. Can’t wait to see a few flurries! I’m more than ready for it. I see in the near future: a warm fire, hot coffee and a stack of Christmas card to get out.
YAY Snow Flakes!! cant wait 🙂
Glad to see your post! There have been more familar faces posting lately. I guess everyone is gettin warmed up for snow talk!
Thanks Patty. Yes, that 4-letter words gets everybody excited. Snow I mean!! I did my last booked wedding this past week-end. I don’t have another one until Valentines Day. 🙂
That means you have the whole winter to spend quality time to with your husband, kids and the grandkids! With no lesson plans to worry about.
Freeze Watch out for us…you know what that means? That means no more allergy symptoms until Spring!! Woohoo!!
what i dun understand is they are giving low of 39 for my area but a freeze warning. Why didn’t they issue one for this morning when it was 28 the freaks
Pam and I will hold the fort down here in Morehead, it looks like we’ll be under the gun this year as well with the white stuff. Although I’d rather it be 80 and sunny, I can’t change the current weather, so I might as well enjoy it.
peace
Absolutely!! It is just fabulous. I’m also wanting to do some things that I have never done before. I would love to go on some mission trips with my church. I also would love to write. There are some things that have happened in my life that I would like to share. Maybe sharing some things I have learned, my life could help someone else. Gees, I think I’m making my bucket list! I also would love to go to the moon and back but I don’t think retirement pay would be enough to pay for that. 🙂 I already own my mustang so I can cross that one off my list. 🙂
I think also on my bucket list will be to help my grandkids build a GREAT BIG snow man!! and eat snow cream!!
Hey Sharon, if you figure out how to publish your writings, let me know. I have a lot of material, but don’t know how to get started with publishing it!!
There are some good articles on self-publishing if you just google it. I haven’t even gotten that far. Just some thoughts in my head that mainly I want to tell my children and grandchildren. Some things that they may not know about me and some things that I want them to know about life. But if I do get that far, I will let you know what I do.
